Someone advise me on some classic 80's music

Post by Superman »

I am putting together an 80's CD for my Saturday poker game. Can someone help me out with some cheesy, but totally 80's, music?

So far...

Goonies R Good Enough

Weird Science

Flashdance

Danger Zone

That song from "Lost Boys"

Anything from Pat Benatar

Anyone care to add some music to my list?

Just download a Duran Duran album and you're set.

The Scorpions - Rock Me Like a Hurricane
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus
A-ha - Take On Me
Loverboy - Workin' For the Weekend
Styx - Mr. Roboto
Cutting Crew - I Just Died (In Your Arms Tonight)
Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night
Love Fist - Dangerous Bastard
INXS - Elegantly Wasted
J. Geils Band - Angel is a Centerfold
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
Survivor - Eye of the Tiger
Foreigner - Cold as Ice
Sweet - Ballroom Blitz
The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star
Thin Lizzy - The Boys are Back in Town
The Vapors - Turning Japanese

Some of these songs may not technically be 80's songs, but I think they all capture that certainly special something of the decade. Also, one is a modern song from Vice City.

Dead or Alive: You Spin Me Right Round
Sir Mix-a-Lot: Baby Got Back
Cheap Trick: I Want You to Want Me
Frankie Goes to Hollywood: Relax
Tone Loc: Wild Thing
When In Rome: The Promise
Flock of Seagulls: I Ran
English Beat: Mirror in the Bathroom

...and just about anything from GTA:Vice City. :D

Most of the 80's songs I love are love songs, but these are some that aren't very love-songish (except maybe for 'The Promise,' but if you don't listen to the words you might not notice). :D

I'm sure I'll think of some more in a few minutes..... I love 80's music! 8)

Seeing The Cars reminded me of some more good ones:

Gary Numan - Cars
Blondie - Atomic
Flock of Seagulls - I Ran (So Far Away)
Sugar Hill Gang (I think) - Rapper's Delight
Oingo Boingo - Weird Science
Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science
Phil Collins - Invisible Touch
Huey Lewis and the News - Back In Time, Hip to be Square, and Power of Love
Robert Palmer - Simply Irresistable and Addicted to Love
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
The Police - Message in a Bottle
The Proclaimers - I Wanna Be (500 Miles)
Taco - Puttin' On the Ritz
Can't remember, maybe Rick Springfield - 867-5309 (Jenny)
Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself
C&C Music Factory - Everybody Dance Now
Devo - Whip It
Duran Duran - Hungry Like the Wolf
Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time
Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue
Tears for Fears - Shout
Donna Summers - I'm So Excited
The Fixx - One Thing Leads to Another
Boy George (The Human League) - Karma Khameleon
Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy

Two more songs, don't know who did them:
Der Komissar
Hungry Eyes (maybe Peter Gabriel?)

Some specific Bon Jovi classics:
Wanted Dead or Alive
Livng on a Prayer

Also, just hunt down the Karate Kid soundtrack, especially The Glory of Love ("I am a man, I will fight for your honor..."). Or the theme to the Neverending Story("Never ending stor-EEEEEE!" [wooo-oh, wooo-oh, wooo-oh]). Or the Ghostbusters theme ("I ain't afraid of no ghosts").

That should do you.

Fashion and haircuts, yes.
But not the music. There have been many great songs. Most are so well written they even survive treatment with techno beats and crappy singers...

Okay, you can trash my religion all you want, but DON'T YOU FUCKIN' SAY ONE THING ABOUT THE MUSIC!

Now, that being said:
Thriller, by Michael Jackson
Ghostbusters
Any Way You Want It
Hungry Eyes
I Think I'm Turning Japanese

If you're willing to drop back to '76 (or move up to '94), the Eagles' "Hotel California" is a good song that was released in the two decades that sandwich the 80s :D.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Queen except for Zaia's mention of the Queen/David Bowie Ra Mix of Under Pressure. Other slightly cheesy Queen songs include the theme from Flash Gordon and Princes of the Universe, from the Highlander movie.

RunDMC's song "It's Tricky" is another...weird...song.

Anything by Savatage . The only reason I've even heard of those guys is because three of them are in Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Those are all the ones I can find looking through my playlists, so...well...that's it.

I concur. What a horrible decade...(shudders) That might be a reason why I prefer GTA 3 over GTA Vice City. lol
