Mostly Giganotosaurus, but a little Spinosaurus. (I bet a real T. rex could take down that abominable Spinosaurus in JP3)Shinova wrote:Are we talking about the spinosaurus in Jurassic Park 3 or the gigantosaurus found somewhere in Argentina or some South American country??

Fun fact, it seems that it was Spinosaurus that was the scavenger and fishgrabber (fissssh). Basically, a young Hyaenodon vs. Gollum.
Ahh, but we musn't forget the ball-and-socket neck joint or the low center of gravity. If the Rexes hunt in packs though......

Re: T. Rex vs. Giganotosaurus
I've always pictured Rexes hunting like crocodiles do...hide under cover (in the late Creteacous, this would be possible considering the lack of open grasslands), wait until your prey gets close enough, then lunge out and attack. Rex could burst out of the trees with his mouth open and hit a Triceratops in the flank. Rex's neck could absorb the impct. Then he could snap his mouth shut and pull back, tearing an enormous piece out of the Tric's hide. The tric should go into shock and bleed to death in a matter of minutes. Alternately, Rex could have had a septic bite like a komodo dragon. Bite the animal, then follow it for a few days until the infection from all the bacteria growing in Rex's mouth kills it. Realistically, I don't think you'd see many one-on-one battles between a Rex and any ceratopsian, because there's no reason for Rex to approach from the front and the ceratopsians were just too big to be able to turn quickly, even with the ball-in-socket neck joint. More common would be battles between individual ceratopsians, wreslting with their horns (I believe a Triceratops horridus skull was found with one horn broken off, suggesting combat between triceratops).Darth Gojira wrote:RedImperator wrote:Frankly, I don't think the ceratopsians had much of a chance either. Giganotosaurus is hella bigger, but Rex is hella smarter. This one goes to The RexKintaro wrote:Which one would win in a one on one fight?
Keep in mind that a Tyrannosaurus has a bite force of a least 2,900 pounds of force (that was the amout from just a feeding mark), which is greater than any known animal.

The smart money isn't on the Triceratops. They're not big enough, they're not fast enough, they're not armored enough, and they're not armed well enough to deal with a predator that size.Kintaro wrote:Considering what T. rexes do to each other, I'm not sure that a Triceratops could stop a Tyrannosaurus, unless its heart was impaled.
How well do you think a Giganotosaurus could do against a Triceratops?

Maybe, but a Triceratops could stab the Giganotosaurus in the lower leg. I don't think a Giganotosaurus could take injury as well as a Tyrannosaurus (referance to Sue's leg, possibly made by a Triceratops). Giganotosaurus is believed to have hunted saurapods, and it probably would have been too slow to a somewhat faster Triceratops, or have had the instincts or intellegence to dodge them. Any thoughts about this?

Trikes weren't that fast. Come at them from the side, and 8 times out of 10 they're going down. I've seen a Giganotosaurus skeleton up close. While I didn't do anything that could be called detailed analysis of it, it didn't seem like he was some kind of pushover, just judging by the size of the lower leg bones. If he's hunting sauropods, he's bound to get injured sooner or later. It would be silly to think he's any more fragile than T-rex was.

Important point: Teeth shape and function.
Giganotosaurus teeth are blade like, designed for slicing flesh.
T-Rex teeth are rounded and designed for crunching armor and bone. (they remind me of railroad spikes).
So, it's Slash vs. Crunch. Gotta go with the crunch.

In the late cretaceous of t-rex's play ground, there was only one north american sauropod: Alamosaurus.Dark Primus wrote:I once saw an article about a dinosaur that looked very much like T-Rex but it was bigger, and that it was hunting Sauropods. However in the early cretaceous of Giga's playground in south america, there were plenty of sauropods
Agreed. A Triceratops can't defend itself very well from the sides and back. There should also be more specimans of Giganotosaurus recoved before we determine what kinds of injuries this animal can sustain.RedImperator wrote:Trikes weren't that fast. T-rex without a doubt. Giganotosaurus may have been a lil bigger than the average T-rex but T-rex had the biting power advantage on there side while Giganotosaurus jaw/teeth were made just to be flesh tearing whilst t-rex had bone crushing jaws/teeth. This post didn't sound that right for some reason.

Saying that T-rex was exclusively a scavanger is stupid. They say stuff like "Oh look, Hyenas has very powerful jaws and they are scavangers." Some news for you, Hyenas aren't exlusively scavengers.

They also say that Tyrannosaurus had small arms, therefore it must scavange. Come on, wolves don't use arms to hunt, and neither do sharks. Can these people come up with better reasons?ArmorPierce wrote:Saying that T-rex was exclusively a scavanger is stupid. I thnk the T-Rex was more probably like lions and hyenas, they hunt living prey but wouldn't pass up a free meal (already dead dino).ArmorPierce wrote:Saying that T-rex was exclusively a scavanger is stupid. Nor would T-Rex pass up an opportunity to pirate a kill from another predator or pack of smaller predators. I don't think Rex was PICKY about what he ate, I just think it's silly to say he never hunted, especially when all the scavenger-only evidence applies to the other Tyrannosaurids as well, and if you're going to insist they were all scavengers, then you're basically saying there were no large predators in the Cretaceous in North America and China. The only real difference between an Albertosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus is the latter is bigger than the former.generator_g1 wrote:I thnk the T-Rex was more probably like lions and hyenas, they hunt living prey but wouldn't pass up a free meal (already dead dino).ArmorPierce wrote:Saying that T-rex was exclusively a scavanger is stupid.
