Yes. You might want to change the thread title to make it less confusing.

Perhaps someone should sticky this as an example of the complex question fallacy.

This wasn't what I expected.

My answer is yes, we should. It'd make things a lot simpler.

The Imperial system is fucking stupid. The only reason anybody in the world uses it outside the US is to communicate with people inside the US. The Imperial system has the same fucking units for force and mass, just for starters.

We probably should. We won't, but we probably should.

There is a different imperial value for force/weight, it's the slug, it's just that nobody uses it or thinks about it.

The pound-force and the pound-mass are the only units in common use. Such is the nature of a unit system devised before people realized there was a fucking difference.

We need to bite the bullet and do the switch. Switching to metric is kinda like listening to a girl talk about her feelings; it may suck at first, but in the end when you get the pussy, it's all been worth it.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.

This analogy fails once you realize you're putting up with all that bullshit not to fuck a chick, but in order to more easily calculate how many small units are in a big unit (no pun intended).

Yes, and we should also convert to metric time, as well, by the way. The current date system is fucking retarded, and the English system is utterly nonsensical.

12 in. = 1 ft.
3 ft. = 1 yd.
5 280 ft. = 1 mi.

Compare with:

100 cm = 1 m
1 000 m = 1 km

One makes sense; the other does not.

Or how about

60 s = 1 min
60 min = 1 hr
24 hr = 1 day
365 days = 1 yr

These are stupid conversion factors. Power of 10 are easy and intuitive. Whipping out my calculator to convert days into seconds shouldn't be necessary. It should be as simple as converting kilometers into meters.

But some of its other unit, such as degrees and pounds are more accurate without going into fractions.

I think it's lack of efficientcy is a better reason to switch it, while 'aint broke' is a sorry excuse to keep it. Well, can't really expect you to come up with something other than an innapropriate catch-phrase as a responce.

Anywho, c'mon Mike, as an engineer, don't you see an appeal to using non-decimalized measurements and insanely moronic work and power measuremnts? You ought to change your site's weapon comparision units from Joules to 'foot-pounds' or whatever the hell we use.

Or what about the Metric Alphabet?
