Interesting. I don't know about when you finish the textures, but right now the ship looks like it's made of plastic - especially the sails and edges, but also the wood body to an extent (it kinda looks like veneer. That could also be due to the curves of the ship, though.

But yeah, it's a lot better from untextured to half textured, so I guess that'll change.

The cut-out between the fore- and aft-castle doesn't make sense to me. You're just giving away hull space and making her in more in danger of getting swamped. She could do with a jib, too. The bottom sail of a square-rigger should tip inwards at the bottom, since it's being held in place by wind and rigging to a hull that is thinner than it, not a rigid cross-piece of mast wider than it. Are you going to do the rigging in 3d, or as pictures and transparency on flat polygons, or something else?
