VirtualBox + Direct3D issues

Hey, I did a search for virtualbox on SDN, and while I didn't find any threads about it (hence this one), it seems some people have experience running it.
With that in mind, here is a problem I've been having: I can't run D3D on my windows XP VM. When I start dxdiag it gets stuck on D3D... I installed the guest additions in safe mode, which includes experimental D3D support. Now I'm not sure what's wrong.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Ghetto Edit: I didn't find a fix for virtualbox, but I did manage to get the games I wanted to run working in WINE by switching to opengl.
