Comic Wars: DC vs Marval

Post by RogueIce »

First in a series of various questions I'll put up, since I'm kinda bored today.

Anyway, which do you like, and why?

My vote is Marvel (Ugh, I don't know if it's right spelling! Damn it! ). It always seemed more real to me. And better story feel. Like X-men and Spiderman, where they try to help, but there's still an undercurrent of fear/hate to them in the world. Unlike Superman, where everyone just loves him, even though he's friggin invincible (except to kryptonite)...

Though, out of DC, I do have to give credit where credit is due: Batman. And no, not Adam West or the movies. The comics and the Animated Series. That's good stuff, and a lot more like Marval (yet another spelling of it). Plus, he's the most human of any of them. No special powers, plus, he's essentially driven by vengence.

While overall, I'd say Marvel is best, I think Batman is the single winner.

Nearly all my favourites (with the exception of Cap Britain, spidey, DD, Black Panther and a few of the Xers) are DC - Bats, Robin, JLI, JSA, Lobo, Green Arrow, L.E.G.I.O.N., LSH.

Now, why isn't 2000 A.D. in that list? *mumble, bloody yanks, grumble, mutter, whinge* :P

[Edit : Put Black Panther in the correct company ]

Deal with it. And who saved your butts in two wars and beat them in two others...?

Oh well. It doesn't matter. Really, it doesn't. Please don't turn into a thread revolving around that...

Please don't, I beg you!

I like both. I Like DC Heroes better. But Marvel has the Better writers. DC (esp. Superman writers) are fucking up everything.

i dont know many
but i liked the x-men, the fantastic 4, silver surfer (actually i didnt like the stories, but he looks cool).

i didnt like superman, captain america, the mighty thor and iron man.

are the ones comming out now still as trashy as the ones in the early 90s? i´ve seen some wierd new wolverine comics with brilliant paintings but somehow i like the old ones better.
something like records and cds i guess.

Character-wise, I like them about equally. On the Marvel side there's Apocalypse, Longshot, Colossus, Psylocke, and the Silver Surfer
(note: I became a fan of Apocalypse because of the X-Men cartoon on Fox. He was so badass on the show it blew my mind. Sadly, its not true in the comics. Oh, and I have no idea why I like the Silver Surfer. Maybe because his last name is Radd  )

DC has Batman, Superman, Lobo, and the cast of Preacher.

Storywise, now, I think DC blows Marvel away with a few key storylines, namely Kingdom Come and Dark Knight Returns. The current "Hush" thing with Batman is pretty good too. All Marvel really had that every really did anything for me was Age of Apocalypse, one issue of the Incredible Hulk, and a few Daredevil mini-arcs.

Oh, DC also has Preacher. Enough said there.

Marville. Heh heh heh.

Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Amazing Spider-Man have been excelling. Incredible Hulk, Captain America, you're getting hit-or-miss (Captain America 1 was an exceptional character piece).

JLA seems DC's strongest title right now. Personally, Jim Lee is propping up Hush; the story's been building up far too slowly for a monthly. Global Frequency (through Wildstorm) started very strong but slipped the last two issues. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (through ABC) is holding strong.

Company-wise, I think DC is much more in touch with their fans. Marvel hates putting out collections, and when they do, they're ludicrously expensive...

I still want a full collection of "Guardians of the Galaxy", you mangy moneygrubbers!

I disagree. I like DC better, and I think, at least as far as the heroes are concerned, they would kick Marvel's arses. I don't know about cosmic entities, however.

I also think that DC has better writers, but Marvel probably has better artists. Marvel seems to do a good job playing up the "reject" heroes. The X-Men, Spiderman (to an extent), the Punisher, etc.

DC also has better villians. I don't know of any Marvel villain that is as sadistic and maniacal as the Joker. Or look at the Penguin, or even Lex Luthor! These guys are legendary!
