That doesn't make any freaking sense. Dell doesn't even sell very high end video cards, so locking you in like that just doesn't make sense.

I think this is from back in the day when Dell thought that locking you in to just their parts was a brilliant idea (proprietary power supply pinout, et al). Since then, they've gotten alot better. It's been nearly a decade since then.

Nah, they still do weird shit like that. We had issues with the ATI drivers on the laptops at my work recently because the boss likes using Dell for some insane reason.

Laptops are different. Nearly every manufacturer still likes having their own special drivers for them. It's retarded, but you can't single out Dell for that.
