That doesn't make any freaking sense. Dell doesn't even sell very high end video cards, so locking you in like that just doesn't make sense.MKSheppard wrote:Except it wasn't. It was a PCI Radeon which was virtually similar to the same model sold in stores, right down to the model number; except it would only take Dell-only drivers.Alyeska wrote:Sounds like a custom ATI integrated setup.
That card was so useless because of it's crippled ability that I never kept it after replacing it with a GeForce; I tossed it in the bin.

I think this is from back in the day when Dell thought that locking you in to just their parts was a brilliant idea (proprietary power supply pinout, et al). Since then, they've gotten alot better. It's been nearly a decade since then.

Nah, they still do weird shit like that. We had issues with the ATI drivers on the laptops at my work recently because the boss likes using Dell for some insane reason.Beowulf wrote:I think this is from back in the day when Dell thought that locking you in to just their parts was a brilliant idea (proprietary power supply pinout, et al). Laptops are different. Nearly every manufacturer still likes having their own special drivers for them. It's retarded, but you can't single out Dell for that.General Zod wrote:Nah, they still do weird shit like that.
