I'm really looking forward to this anime series.

Woah, Production IG is working on this?

I'm... so confused. Also, what's with the battlemech getup where that other spartan is covered in rockets? Or holding a gun to that wheelchair girl's head?

This is not an anime series at all. It is a one-off collection of shorts by various animation studios, like the Animatrix and the Batmanimatrix.

Maybe it's supposed to be an Spartan I instead of an Spartan II, possibly even an Spartan III? They are both substantially more normal looking than SII's.

true.

I just have an extreme amount of hate for certain anime cliche's and I don't want to see them in this.

Hmmm. I don't really like the style. The CG effects looked weird to me, it might be my monitor.

That being said, I am looking forward to this. I would love to see more backstory and side stuff fleshed out in a visual medium.

Are we sure that she wasn't just in ODST gear? They wear Spartan-styled armor at times.

I counted five unique styles in that trailer, everything from CGI Ghost in the Shell:SAC look-alike to something that looked almost FMA style bright colors smooth lines(The gun to the girl scene) and I distinctly saw some Elites with Samurai style helmets on.

I'm glad these kind of one-off's are getting to be popular. Aside from exposing new studios it also gives existing studios a chance to take a crack at a know gene and put their own spin on it.

Wonder what happens when they combine the American cliches with the anime cliches. Do they reach some sort of critical mass?

Looked neat, but it doesn't really fit with Halo. Who cares though? As long as it is sufficiently decent quality.

Most of the speculation I've seen indicates it might be one of the S2's coming upon their flash-cloned replacement.

I like the idea of the Flash-Clone, one of the fucked up things of the Spartan program(For those that don't know) was the Spartans were pretty much kidnapped as children and trained/indoctrinated for decades of training. Meanwhile the kids they took were replaced with so called "flash clones" Instant humans, just add water! Only they tend to either go crazy, die from degenerative diseases for the most part. Nearly all of them die quite quickly it seems. Maybe this is the story about the one rare Spartan replacement out of the bunch who lived. They have access to Future Science after all. Perhaps one of the Parents of a Spartan had enough money to throw at the problem to keep their child alive longer.

Hmmm.....when I first played Halo I always thought the Chief was a cyborg. The game even emphasized this many times over. Heck in one of the early teasers for Halo 1 Master Chief had a generic robotic voice.

But now it seems Spartans are just big, buff and muscular men. They can even have sex and at least one female spartan had children according to some posts I read on SB.

Hoping that out of armor spartans would be shown as somekind of an abomination of metal, flesh and biotechnology is just too much to ask for at this point.
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

They are cyborgs but only in the loosest of senses; neural hookups, improved eyes, armoured bones.

I wonder if that blond Spartan girl is meant to be Nicole-458 from Dead or Alive 4. I like how Master Chief now has powered armor for his powered armor. And because Kazutaka Miyake is working in it, it looks like his Powered Suit design from the Japanese edition of Starship Troopers. Also Shinji Aramaki, creator of Megazone 23 and Mospeada, is one of the directors.

Interesting...

Though, while we're on that topic, what ever happened to that RvB one they announced back last year?

On the plus side...they're literally working for the survival of humanity as a species. Good thing the Covenant attacked, eh? Otherwise the Spartans would just be fighting (human) insurgents, like they were originally set up for.

Known films

Bones - Prototype - A marine has been sent to a distant planet to destroy a prototype powered armor, but when he arrives he finds the planet is still inhabited by humans who are under siege by the Covenant. The suit is their only hope for survival. So he disobeys orders and keeps that suit, at least temporarily, to help the civilians.

Casio Entertainment - The Package - A CGI-film taking place during a SPARTAN-II raid on a Covenant CCS-class Battlecruiser using the Booster Frames.

Production I.G. - Duel - Taking place during the time of the Sangheili-San 'Shyuum alliance, forming the Covenant Empire.

Production I.G. - Homecoming - Focused on the tragedies involving the SPARTAN-II recruitment in 2517, and the Spartans coming to terms with their origins.

STUDIO4˚C - Origins - An expansive history of the 100,000 year long Halo universe. It's comprised of two parts.

STUDIO4˚C - Babysitter - A story about the rivalry between the SPARTAN-II Commandos and the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.

Toei Animation - Odd One Out - A non-canon and satirical interpretation of the Halo universe featuring SPARTAN-1337.

Looks like a very nice range of stories there, Origins in particular is very ambitious and I hope they do it well. And of course, Spartan-1337? Can't wait to see that!

The blonde girl? It looks like they might be related or the same person. I'm guessing its one of those anime "mental flashbacks" where it rpresents some sort of internal conflict or something (how you were vs how you are now) or some such. Likely isnt even literal.

I am also not sure why the fact there is a woman in red armor is such a big deal. Didn't quite look like a girl to me.. maybe late teens or early twenties. Not always easy to tell exact age by a drawing you know.

This looks terrible. I'm just glad it's a series of one-offs, but yeah, it still looks really awful, even if those are different ones. Their 3D is gross as all fuck, they should have just drawn the machines instead of poorly rendering the 3D motion for it. I don't like Halo to begin with, but I like animation--and this is just two kinds of suck.

I'm with Covenant. It looked bad. Sure, some visuals were bog standard of the production companies involved, but really? It wasn't anything special and fucking A, Halo's backstory is fun bathroom reading material. Let it die, and try and make something that isn't so damned cliched.

Seems Rentable to me. Not spectacular, but not that bad.

Of course, if it is Bad, then I'll get to bitch about it here.
