I still think all this tiny-world stuff is silly. Your space plans can be handwaved as Still Successful whilst allowing the planet to be a more appropriate size.
Nevermind.

Well, we'd have to scale our rockets up appropriately. Like adding 20-50% more thrust.Czechmate wrote:I still think all this tiny-world stuff is silly. Your space plans can be handwaved as Still Successful whilst allowing the planet to be a more appropriate size.

So the scale's not wrong? I thought it was wrong. I believe the figures are in the last thread.PeZook wrote:No! No changing of the size! It will blow apart all our space mission planning!
Literally. Launch vehicles and spacecraft would become useless overnight.
When I did the map, the proper scale was 7 kilometers per pixel. Generally, the world has a radius of 3850 kilometers, and the map's scale should reflect that.
Ah, here
Me, earlier wrote:
....wait, BLAH, that scaling might be off, I believe it goes back to an old map, because if I use the pixel counts of the map I get an equatorial distance of 24815km, a north-south (pole?) distance of 11382km, meaning a total approximate area of 282,444,330km. Earth has 510,000,000km+ area. I thought we were only about 80% smaller than Earth?
And frankly if we changed the scale we'd just retcon all space stuff as altered to match so it can still work. *gets RETCON stamp pilfered from that one webcomic's Mary Jane Parker, she's already Retconned Joe Quesada out of existence so she doesn't need it anymore anyway*

I take my comments back on the whole make the world bigger thing. I had no idea stuff was so linked and I'd think a retcon would be a bit messy.

Marina never declared the land area ; Remember that we have vastly less countries than Earth, and most of them are relatively small.
The only parameters declared at the start was surface gravity and circumference. My map scale didn't match those exactly (it's slightly too big, I think), but it was close enough. All other parameters, such as the radius, flowed from these parameters.

I like the fact this world is strange and yet familiar. So it's small...big deal. It allows us to have AWESOME moon exploration missions with our overpowered rockets able to move entire mobile nuclear plants in one go.

Re: SD.Net World Redux Comment Thread IX
The problem with that is its an awful lot of retconning. Moreover its a shitload of forward reloading. Myself and PeZook (along with several others in the space race) have spent an enourmous amount of time calculating thrust/weight ratios, DeltaV requirements, mission profiles, etc. Essentially every future mission (and the Mars planning is already a huge headache I try to tackle at least once a week) would require us to rework everything we already have. It might require us to build an entirely new set of rockets which would be a 3-5 year delay in game (or nearly a full year IRL). I concur with no changing the scale.Steve wrote:And frankly if we changed the scale we'd just retcon all space stuff as altered to match so it can still work. *gets RETCON stamp pilfered from that one webcomic's Mary Jane Parker, she's already Retconned Joe Quesada out of existence so she doesn't need it anymore anyway*

Nice very nice, Ill have to back and re-write a few things to reflect the new numbers, but that should be relatively easy to do. We aren't that demilitarized, im thinking a budge of about 6% GDP opt so.Stas Bush wrote:Starting GDP of $2,5 trillion, up to 60 million of population. That gives a peak peacetime military budget of around 250 billion (10% of GDP), but you're more likely to have something like 50-60 billion (2-3%) if you're relatively demilitarized. As for resources, you can write that up and check what people need in terms of ore deposits, trade, etc.Crossroads Inc. wrote:You seem to be an expert on the new layout, what sort of GDP/Points/Resources will I have to throw around?

It would appear that I misread my production model. XD
The time ratio of real- to game-time is 1 week to 1 month, right?
If that's the case, I'll be able to have both Baerne and Siege's orders of Cicadas ready in about three weeks real time.
