For the unaware: Doan's Island is the "lost" 15th Episode of the original Mobile Suit Gundam...it was lost for a reason and I wish I could find that screen cap.

Re: Starship Dimensions
The director just didn't like it. It's not really lost since it is still included in every Japanese release. It was just never dubbed. Doan's Island is kind of infamous among fans for its weird animation errors.
I had a chance to talk with the translator for Gundam at Anime Boston. To make a long story short, Tomino is a very weird guy who makes weird demands.

What the fuck? That's a Zaku II?
as for Tomino being wierd, I suppose he isn't the strangest anime director around.
A friend once told me that one of the higher-ups on NGE either attempted to or succesfully committed suicide.

I don't know about attempted suicide but I recall that Anno was extremely upset by network interference on Nadia and became really despondent over it.

Re: Starship Dimensions
To be fair to the developers they were working from the oridingal series where things were all ... wonky. And to be fair to Gundams, they range from the RX-78 (which really isn't anything to sneeze at, tohugh not really all that hot compared to an Eva) and ends around the Turn A, which could kill Unit 01 by looking at it funny. The recent Zeon versus Enterprise thread demonstrated that UC Gundam is a lot more powerful than we would give it credit for.CaptHawkeye wrote:Mna video games are hilarious. How do you balance the God-mecha against....a Gundam? Just make it smaller? According to those games Shinji is a Hobbit!
But at the end of the day it's just a fun crossover videogame, so I think can forgive it having Valkyries being relevant in the same battle as Gunbuster.
Man, thanks for juxtaposing the dance; I always thought it was kind of cool, now it seems kind of lame. It's pretty annoying how strapped for cash NGE was getting, because its actual designs were very good.Well, I associate with fluidity of movement and camera placement to be honest. NGE's fight scenes depict Evas as capable of human-level reaction time and movement. As if they were basically normal size humans. EoE came along, and gave Anno the budget he wanted since the start. Compare Asuka's "last stand" to the hilarious 60 second "synchronized" fight in the series for a good idea of the differences in movement.
There's a size comparison chart for Alpha, I think, which depicts them as being ridiculously tiny.Majin Gojira wrote:Really?

Or the Ideon. Just...just Ideon.Ford Prefect wrote:But at the end of the day it's just a fun crossover videogame, so I think can forgive it having Valkyries being relevant in the same battle as Gunbuster.
Though to be a bit more fair, one of those Valkyries is piloted by Niki Basara, who can sing people to death.
But I await the day when a Super Robot Wars game gives us Code Geass Knightmare Frames in the same game as Gurren Lagann's Gunmen.
I managed to copy it to my Hard Drive a while back--thing has the Eva at 40m (I think that's still in size L).There's a size comparison chart for Alpha, I think, which depicts them as being ridiculously tiny.
Though it may be a fan created one for Alpha 3--is also has Kaiser Ephis in there for comparison.

Re: Starship Dimensions
Are they putting Knightmare Frames in any of the SRW games?
That would really stretch SOD for me, seeing them the same size as an EVA or a Gundam.
I tried to write a CG/Btech crossover but abandoned it once I realized that an atlas could step in a KF like a pile of dog shit.

Re: Starship Dimensions
If anything, Knightmare frames would be Size SS (A person on a Motorcycle makes it that size) or Size S at the most. And before you scoff, know this: for Gear Fighter Dendoh, they included for a single level a unit which was literally a girl on a motorcycle. It was nigh impossible for the enemy to hit because of its small size and speed.Darksider wrote:Are they putting Knightmare Frames in any of the SRW games?

Just imagine a Knightmare Frame (which range from 4.5 to 10m) to be twice as big sprite-wise as the above link.
From the same game, an Eva looked like this. Later games continue to exagerate on the size differneces between mechs in a series. From Super Robot Wars Z, we have Daitarn 3 and Zambot 3 being two different sizes on screen. Of course, Daitarn 3 is 150m tall and Zambot 3 considerably less so (Either 50 or 100, I can't remember).
Considering how popular those two series are, though it really is only a mater of time before it happens.

Find a picture of Getter Emperor. Now look at that speck of dust on your screen. That's every other mecha ever standing on each other's shoulders.CaptHawkeye wrote:I'd like to see a hilariously nerd-broken size comparison for Mecha to be honest.

Re: Starship Dimensions
The size difference between a Sutherland and the RX-78 (four times) is signfiicantly less severe than the size difference between the RX-78 and the Gunbuster (almost eleven times).Darksider wrote:That would really stretch SOD for me, seeing them the same size as an EVA or a Gundam.
Yes, exactly like how they just step on Elementals! Oh, wait!I tried to write a CG/Btech crossover but abandoned it once I realized that an atlas could step in a KF like a pile of dog shit.
The Getter Emperor does eventually end up so big that it punches some chick's head through a galaxy. Either one is still insignificant in comparison to the [sigh]Demonbane[/sigh].Vendetta wrote:The black background Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann's toe.

Re: Starship Dimensions
Kinda wildly inaccurate there. Balls are only 12m in height. Big O is supposed to be Godzilla/Eva big. The Ingram (Easily mistaken for a Valk) is only 8m tall yet seems a bit inaccurate compared to the 23m Nu Gundam.VF5SS wrote:I got your size comparison right here.
More accurate:
Here we have the 19m GP01 compared to a modern day fighter, the AV-98 Ingram, and my own guesstimation of the ~4.5m Lancelot from Geass...now keep in mind that the Scopedog in the first chart is only 3.8m...

Re: Starship Dimensions
AHA! Found that Alpha 3 chart!
Another option for incorporating Code Geass is to use as many small mecha as possible. Valkyries, Aestvals, Steel Jeeg, and maybe even Labors would fit the bill (Labors, being slower and more 'realistic' would be harder to work in than the Knightmare Frames, though). Heck, they could finally work in one of the oldest Super Robots ever: Tetsujin-28! Overman King Gainer might work too (seem smaller than a Gundam to me). I'm sure there's a few other small mech out there for good use. Heck, SRW K made good use of many smaller mechs, such as those from the Zoids franchize.
Oh, and her'es another size chart I stumbled across.
And this one has the benifits of labelling.
Edit: And Photobucket shrunk them just enough that all the labels become unreadable. Fuck.

Re: Starship Dimensions
It's pretty much the final boss of Alpha 3 and god king of Balamar Empire, the overal series antagonists.
Aside from having a powerful mech and an interplanetary army at his disposal, he also has the Power of Rock which can match Nikki Basara of Macross 7. Really. It helps that he's voiced by the founder of JAM project--the man who did the songs for pretty much every classic Super Robot series remembered today.
And by Final Boss, I mean: Gets obscenly fucked up uber attack and has his own special event where, Spoiler
