Its possible that the father was in reverse going out of the driveway. At least, thats what would make the most sense to me.

Sheppard is a weird sort of person. For instance, I actually tried to help over a while, especially when he was going to college, but I finally couldn't stand it when he made a comment to me along the lines that "Jesse Helms doesn't hate gays, he just thinks that what you're doing is wrong." That and some other things finally made me give up on him - I think I persisted on keeping contact with him for nearly the longest of anyone at ASVS - but now he is generally polite once again.

I suspect that he has been poorly raised, and he's turned towards Neo-Confederatism/Nazism as a form of alternate identity as an alternative to a family structure that doesn't exist. Naturally, of course, his new identity advocates a violent solution to effectively any problem, and moreover, without really thinking about it. The end result is that his obvious solution to his father - who wasn't acting as a father was supposed to anyway - was to shoot him. The government and law, of course, didn't matter, since they were all evil and out to get you anyway.

If you want to be blunt about it, you can actually find very intelligent people in gangs. That's why they prosper and often set up criminal "empires" in areas. They may not be educated, but they have the knowledge to organize business and navigate a web of interactions between complex forces, as ruthlessly as necessary. Sheppard's identity is the same thing as being a gangbanger wannabe, except for a white southern kid. That's not necessarily an insult to his intelligence or capabilities at all, but just an observation on his identity and reaction to his circumstances.

What Sheppard - Ryan - Needs to realize, and I'm speaking to him now, is that long-term success in this world is oriented around hard work towards the production of wealth, and gaining knowledge to produce that wealth more efficiently. The system of government one lives under is ultimately irrelevant as long as it protects your assets and allows you to maximize your profit. Once it does that it will also drift towards democracy because that's the most efficient system under which capitalism can operate.

Ryan should work towards the goal of learning what he needs to be as successful and wealthy as possible in life, and involving himself in the established political process with the power that his money and that his remaining energy allows.

Other considerations are irrelevant. Life deals exceptionally hard blows. You life in pain and misery and you die in pain and misery and then you rot under six feet; or if you're lucky, you're cremated. Your ultimate goal on this planet should therefore be to create a space of happiness for yourself - whatever you define as such - by your own sweat, and improve the world for those you care about in such fashion as you are able. The hatred of others and the random brutality of life can only be impetous to work harder.

I will grant you that that is possible, depending on the position of the neighbor's house. I had visualized it as driving away in a forward direction. I just checked over my conversation with Shep about it, and he didn't confirm or deny it. However, since I cannot prove this interpretation is correct I will withdraw my statement and reissue it as: "He shot at an unarmed man." Fair enough?

Even if you believe that I provoked him, even if you believe it was a quote out of context, that has nothing to do with the fact that he, as stated, will attack people who cannot defend themselves.

If Sheppard actually aimed for his dad its unlikely he'd be alive. It would seem the judge and jury agreed giving how short his sentence was.

Ok, enoughs enough! This thread was posted to inform you that Ted and Sheppard had temporary bans with the reasons for it. If you have a problem with Ted and Sheppards behavior then have the decency to wait until they are back on the board before doing so. I don't give two fucks if they have posted behind others backs, or attacked those that can't defend themselves, if you want to be better than them, then you DON'T emulate their tactics and use "well they do it." as a defence!

I'm not a mod here, so I can't lock this thread, however I will ask that no one else post here unless they have something Constructive to say on the situation. Those that have issues with what another has posted here, please take it to either E-mail or PM and try to sort it out civilly - flamewars over semantics and mis-understandings (especially when you both have the same fundamental views on the subject) solve nothing!

Lets just see if we can practice what we preach for once, we support intelligence over belligerence and should try to prevent personal attacks against fellow Denizens not encourage them at every instance. I enjoy making fun of idiots and calling others Crack-smoking donkey fuckers as much as the next man, but continued, mallicious personal attacks on fellow denizens is not tolerable.

If we are truly intelligent, thinking posters, then these pointless flamewars are OVER. I suppose we'll see what calibre of people we have with the next set of posts and general conduct over the next few weeks.

No. She clearly stated Neo-confederacy (those that want the South to rise again and their stance on non-white races). Whether your ancestors fought for the old South is irrelevant as she is not talking about that. Also Sheppard is a Neo-confederate (not sure about the racism part of that though) and he idolisies the Nazi party, so which part of that line was incorrect? the / denotes a removed word in this context so it would be "he's turned towards Neo-Confederatism and Nazism", it could have been better worded, but there is nothing untrue in what she has said. Stop being so touchy, you'll just get embroiled in another flamewar over a misunderstanding.
