The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition

The big news dropped on the Comic-Con audience by LucasArts came in the form of The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition. This Fall LucasArts will release a new downloadable level for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. It re-imagines the Star Wars Saga as if the Secret Apprentice had taken Darth Vader’s place at the Emperor’s side after the events of the original game and is going to let you explore the deepest, darkest side of the Force. The game expands the original The Force Unleashed levels with new levels set on Coruscant and Tatooine, and an all-new level set on Hoth.

It’s a what-if scenario, “the secret apprentice is sent to Hoth with a mission to crush the Rebellion once and for all, and along the way he’s going to come up against Luke Skywalker!” described Shell. The Ultimate Sith Edition will be available on Mac and PC too.

So, you think they are going with some back story of Ben training Luke for all this time? Hell, makes the Emperor look dumber. But eh... the game's story is as bad as much of the current EU, as long as the combat is still the same brand of over the top. Still, Boba Fett is a fucking disappointment even with the low standards I hold for the game. Unless he's the first fucker in some bizarre prequel to the storyline, he's a hotshot bounty hunter with hype. And the video makes it look like it that he fires everything and the kitchen sink and you beat him. Really...that is piss poor.

And again, I want to face the Emperor. It was the only thing I liked of the game is the over the top DBZ bullshit they made Force Powers into. It made me enjoy borrowing it for a couple weeks, depending on when my friend downloads this, and how it pans out...I might buy the game for $10. Course if I beat it while sitting at his house, well...eh.

Nah, that's not the case. Back in the day I had a bit of that attitude, mainly because some cool games were lousy ports from consoles. I was grateful for the thorough beta testing GTA:VC got on the consoles before it shipped out for the PC J/K

Still, even on this board I heard that if you want a decent jedi game, you go Jedi Academy. And I didn't pay too much attention to TFU since it didn't come out on PC, but since now it will, is it worth attention?

I'm looking forward to it. The game is fun, the story (contained) is OK, and like was said, it is an infinities story, so who cares if Luke has more training as of Hoth or if Boba is more uber than the uber Sith Apprentice. For someone like me that plays like 4 or 5 games and doesn't have much exposure to what other games it may or may not be like or may or may not be better than, it is damn fun.

I'm even going to shell out the $50 for the Hoth level.

It makes no sense to me. Do they think that a majority of X360/ PS3 consumers are going to shell out for a game they already own, especially when they already have 1/3 of the DLC available on this new version already (i.e. the Jedi Temple level)? It's just grossly unfair on the people who already own the game for console, really.

It's a damn shame too, because an obvious opportunity for both the Tatooine and Hoth level, which I hope they thought of, is putting Vader from the Kashyyyk level as a playable character, so you're able to fight Obi-Wan and Luke as Vader. How cool would that be?

The one thing that I don't like about the Dark Side ending is that Sidious dropping the Rogue Shadow on you (thereby making you just like Vader) makes no sense in the context of what we know Sidious wants - i.e. a successor, someone to surpass him. Betrayal is the nature of the Sith, he could've easily dealt with Marek without turning him into human wreckage.

Sidious' declaration that "Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us!" says it all in that regard - Anakin being wounded was damn inconvenient for him, also refer to Dark Lord.

Doesn't change the fact that Palpatine manipulates even his closest followers, and won't hesitate to cast them loose when something better comes along. I can see how Vader ending up like he did would be inconvenient, but Vader was still impressive in his own right. He just couldn't do all that acrobatic shit Anakin could do. Which is no big loss, IMO.

I never read Dark Lord so I can't comment on it. But if you're going by the EU, Palpatine's ultimate plan was to be an immortal Sith Lord as per Dark Empire. Which... precludes any possibility of someone succeeding him. (If an apprentice does succeed in deposing him then under the Sith way that's a fair go, but I don't think Palpatine would actually dream of that happening, or rather would allow it to happen. I know he's stupid, but I don't get that he's THAT stupid)

On a personal level I tossed out Dark Empire's version of Palpatine's motivations the moment he opened his mouth in RotS. Dark Lord is on RotS lines. And yes, you need to read it, since it's awesome. Palpatine wants to be overthrown by his apprentice, but he's not going to let them do it. At the same time he's not going to fuck up his apprentice's body / capabilities on purpose.

Fair enough. Well, TFU is infinities so Palpatine's motivations don't have to make sense (Infinities = shit anyway).
