Spore and registering...

Post by ZGundam »

I just bought a Copy of Spore: Galatic Edition, the Limited Edition Guide, and the Cute & Creepy pack from someone for $20 but since they used it once I cannot re-register it under the key on the guide.

Other then either buying a new gaem to use a new key or calling EA Care which I hear is a bitch, what other options do I have?

Can the game be unregistered?

Ok, probllem solved and I can't believe how easy it was!

I contacted EA Support and told them I bought a used version of Spore: Galactive Edition and the key won't register. After talking to his supervisor for 5 minutes, he came back and gave me a new key!!

I guess EA really wants to be on good terms with ther players.

I guess it would be no problem for EA to invalidate the previous key and give you a new one (something they could also do if your key was lost or stolen), but I suspect in most cases they'll suggest you buy a new one (another sale for them), so you might have been lucky this time.

NOW BOW BEFORE EA!

How much did the phone call cost you, if they charged you $1 per minute then they have in effect charged you for a new game anyway.

Such lies make the baby jesus cry. EA are evil, hold this close to your heart.

Pretty much no publishers give a shit about secondary markets. If you bought a used product that only works for the first guy, you're pretty stupid. That's like buying a secondhard WoW time card. :)

Yeah, you got lucky in that you can now use what you paid for.

But Spore is bad. You'll find that out in an hour or so. :P Least you got it for bargain bin price.

I never bought a used game that did this before so I never ran into this issue before today. So calling me stupid for something I didn't know seems preety childish.

You bought something that needs online registration without even thinking about it; that's stupid. Secondhand PC games are always at the mercy of DRM; hell, if you bought Sacred 2 secondhand your key wouldn't even work and you couldn't play the game at all!

It says 'online activation required' on the box.

Ah, reminds me of that time I saw a kid and his father walking out of a store with a second hand copy of World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade.

By the way, damm this thread for sparking my curiosity and making me borrow the "expansion" for Spore. It sucks. Greately. Yeah, you get a nice editor to make content to share online, but a handful of Maxis-created missions. I'm all for user created content, but what-the-fuck, what if I want to just play the game? Do I need to wait for someone to churn out some half-decent map? (rethoric question).

Yet again, we get the epic fail that is Spore: Great potential completely wasted. Meh, I'll go back to playing some more microbe phase before going to bed, that part rocks.

how baout the fact that most of the time you are never able to access or play with your own creations. I have dozens of creature I lovingly crafted that I "See" in the game, but I cna't play, oh now, Ivwe got to "evolve" a creature from scratch each time.

You can, actually. Use the evoadvantage cheat before you load a new game, and bewm, lovingly crafted, overpowered beast right from Cell. I've been using it to explore a divergent evolution storyline world.
