Nah, it's more of they eventually do find someone, choose them, then chalk it up to "God's Will" if it works out.
The problem is, at this point, our hypothetical evangelical has never been in a relationship, so they have no idea how to handle one, so it probably won't work out. The alternative is even worse: they marry the first person they meet, and then spend their lives in an unhappy (or worse, abusive) relationship because it's God's Will that they be together.[/quote]

They may not necessarily regard it as "gods will", but they seem divorcing as highly immoral - even if the relationship hurts both partners. Combined with an urge to marry asap, this leads to unhappy marriages.

Case in point:
My older sister married the second person she ever dated.
My younger sister just married the first person she ever dated.
My brother will marry the first person he ever dated in December.

I'm sure it will all work out great...

I married the third girl I ever dated, my first two relationships lasted less than 3 months each. My wife is the only person I've had sex with. I don't think it's so much the early marriage that is the issue (though I admit there'll be a high correlation between marriages of young and inexperienced couples and failed marriages). I think it's the reason for the early marriage that's the issue. We both knew that we could have a fun and sexual relationship and there was no pressure of life long commitment.

Skeptics, meanwhile, suspect early marriage backers want to turn back the clock on gender roles.
Of course they want to turn back the gender role clock. Is it only a "suspicion"? Many of these people don't think that women should even attend college. This debate is just evidence that evangelicals are only now realizing as a group that their views on sexuality and gender roles are incompatible (surprise) with the secular norm of later marriage, and instead imply young marriage.
A Government founded upon justice, and recognizing the equal rights of all men; claiming higher authority for existence, or sanction for its laws, that nature, reason, and the regularly ascertained will of the people; steadily refusing to put its sword and purse in the service of any religious creed or family is a standing offense to most of the Governments of the world, and to some narrow and bigoted people among ourselves.
