There is too much wrong with this article to point it all out. As I see it, it all stems from one thing: an attitude of complacency and shallow thinking. This man is not just making wrong statements about science and engineering - he doesn't even know what they are. Yet he's entirely content that he knows enough about it to make these ridiculous claims. His thinking is so shallow that he can't even notice its shallowness, let alone apprehend or ameliorate it.

Addendum: the research that Plekhanov was referring to is the 'Dunning-Kruger effect'.
The Dunning–Kruger effect is an example of cognitive bias in which "...people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it".[1] They therefore suffer an illusory superiority, rating their own ability as above average. This leads to a perverse result where people with less competence will rate their ability more highly than people with relatively more competence. It also explains why competence may weaken the projection of confidence because competent individuals falsely assume others are of equivalent understanding. "Thus, the miscalibration of the incompetent stems from an error about the self, whereas the miscalibration of the highly competent stems from an error about others."[1]

Shit, sorry, thread necro. I haven't been to SDN in ages, and was reading over a mass of past threads. Feel free to lock this.

I hope this contribution compensates for adding to the necromancy, since it illustrates what Winston Blake highlights:

Hey we're not the only country with a few crazy and deluded people in power, granted we do seem to have a higher number of them, but at least they don't all team up and really f things up. The left wing crazies and the right wing crazies almost balances each other out :D

Trust me, there isn't balance. The left wing doesn't have the same type o nuts. All we have are the hippies and eco-nuts. We don't even have enough communist sympathizes to run a government agency!
