10-year-old sent home from school for anti-Islam shirt

Post by chitoryu12 »

Linky link link
A 10-year-old Florida girl was sent home on the first day of school for wearing a T-shirt with an anti-Islam slogan, local media reported.
Faith Sapp showed up at the Talbot Elementary School in Gainesville on Monday wearing a white T-shirt with the words "Islam is of the devil" spelled out in red capital letters on the back, WFTV.com reported.

School district spokeswoman Jackie Johnson told The Gainesville Sun the child's shirt violated the school’s dress code. The girl was taken to the school office until a parent could come. The parent was given the option of bringing another shirt or taking the student home for the rest of the day, Johnson said.

Faith told WFTV she was expecting a response to the shirt. "I was thinking they're probably [going to] give my parents a call," she said.

Dove World Outreach Center, a northwest Gainesville church that began drawing protesters in July after it posted a sign reading "Islam is of the devil" on its property.
Well, ain't that sweet? The little girl from Florida (of course) is being brainwashed into a religious bigot by her shitstain parents! Awwww!

No doubt this will be spun as "secular oppression of decent Christian girl exercising her First Amendment rights" by the area churches.

Pretty sure when I was in school clothing couldn't say anything about religion one way or the other.

Nowadays, there's no problem with a religious shirt as long as it doesn't disparage another religion. You can wear a shirt your local church made as long as it doesn't include a line like "The only TRUE religion!"

Maybe someone should attend her church while wearing a T-shirt which says "Christianity is of the stupid". See how the trolls like being trolled.

Man that sounds like a crackerjack idea.

Joking aside, even if her parents hate Islam, why would they put/allow their child to be at risk like that. Other 10 years olds aren't exactly the most rational bunch, and kids can be very vicious.
I mean, when I was 10 and some kid came to school wearing a shirt that said 'Italians/Mexicans are of the Devil' I might have beat the shit out of them. At the very least I would have made their life as shitty as possible from that day forward.

They were probably gambling on the idea that there aren't very many Muslims in Florida.
Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

They do in the US,, unless it "materially and substantially interfere with the requirements of appropriate discipline in the operation of the school." And a direct insult to all Muslim students certainly seems to fit that criterion.

It's also against the dress code, which is actually the reason they made her get rid of the shirt. I mean I've been a school where the guys had to wear white or bright shirts, and one kid got in trouble for wearing a black shirt.

Too bad these parents are such pussies that they have to make their kids wear this shit instead of wearing it themselves. Goddamn cowards...

Quite a few Moslems live in Florida and they certainly are a noticeable minority, ranging from westernized Palestinians with European wives, Nation of Islam types, hardcore Pakistani fundamentalist, and party animal Indian Moslems. I live in the county directly south of the location. We have two Masjids here, I don't know about Alachua County but I am sure that the Moslems have a large enough population to support a private school outside of Gainseville called the Hoda Academy.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised that this happened in Gainesville and not here. Gainesville, which holds the University of Florida, is (comparatively) quite liberal.

All the more reason for people to home school their kids and keep their idiocy to themselves.

That's probably why it happened. The mother feels she needs to make a statement in the face of what she probably perceives as a Muslim takeover of the area (and in a larger sense, the nation). She probably also believes that "secret Muslim" nonsense about President Obama too. You have to keep in mind that when an area is said to be more "liberal", that doesn't mean every person in it is more liberal. It just means that there's a higher percentage of liberals there. There are still knuckle-dragging troglodytes, but they're just less dominant. It may develop a siege mentality.

In a more conservative town, it would be a town councillor saying these things, not some dipshit speaking through her daughter's T-shirt. This girl knew the school wouldn't like it too; she was just upset because the punishment for her T-shirt trolling was harsher than she expected.

Why? It's not as if this little bitch is going to convert anyone with this behaviour, and at least she's getting some exposure to other points of view at public school, which is more than she would get when being homeschooled.

Actually, i think it is quite good that the students see that intolerance is NOT accepted and will be punished if overdone.
