I won't deny that that might be true, but keep in mind his videos are about awful comics, and that it is a comedy act. Hence his quirky behaviour, and the awfulness of what he reviews.Vendetta wrote:I very much suspects that he is one of those people that decries and hates the industry but continues to fluff up it's diseased erection by fellating it every month when it oozes something new out. There isn't a single creator owned or independent comic in all of his reviews, as I recall, they're all the latest wankers in tights books.

And yet, of course, he still buys these comics, knowing that he will hate them, and then gets all personally upset when people he cares about get killed off for five minutes.LordOskuro wrote: I won't deny that that might be true, but keep in mind his videos are about awful comics, and that it is a comedy act. It's even in his Countdown review. He complains that they kill off several characters he cares about, whereas he should have been complaining about the inconsequentiality of killing off Z list characters that only he cares about, because the characters who people who haven't read the last ten years of DC will have heard of and might pick up a comic about are ringfenced from any actual development which would dissolve their franchise value.
Basically, yes, the comics he talks about suck, but his complaints about them are complaints that only people who are going to read them anyway would care a shit about, and do not address the cancer on the comics industry that is the Universe As Franchise.
Re: Disney buys Marvel
Well, I guess it takes a fan who has bought and read all that shitty material to do a show like his. I personally see no objection in the focus of his show, he highlights some very common issues with comics in general (And DC & Marvel in particular) wich are worth highlighting, specially for amateur comic artists (like myself) who need a heads up on possible pitfalls, but I understand he is certainly missing on some grander issues (even going as far as the economical concerns that have lead to Marvel selling to Disney), but, what the hell, the show is fun to watch and a bit informative, really couldn't expect more.

Except, of course, I do expect more, because I've read much more incisive arguments about the shape of comics and comic sales from comic writers like Warren Ellis and sellers Stephen Holland.
The trouble with Linkara and his ilk is that if you asked him "If not this, then what", what you'd almost certainly get is his own personal nerd fantasy version of whatever characters he likes. Which, guess what, is exactly what he's complaining about other people doing.
What you almost certainly wouldn't get is "Stop all these characters, leave them to the films and spinoffs, which are doing better with them for a wider audience than comics ever have, and start telling new stories with different characters in their own universes which are created for and are part of the story" Because there really are only a limited number of stories you can successfully tell about a particular character, and it's pretty evident that most of the good ones have been mined out for the big name superheroes, they just get retreads from time to time in new media now.

Re: Disney buys Marvel
And here is your problem. They guy just makes comedy comic reviews on TGWTG.com. If you really are so demanding well, there are those other witers you've mentioned to satisfy your needs.Vendetta wrote:Except, of course, I do expect more.

Re: Disney buys Marvel
And that would be why I don't watch his reviews or read the comics involved therein. Because there are better comics I could be reading with my time. Hell, the only one mentioned by name in this topic was mentioned by Stark, The Losers, and it's probably a good bet that he and I are the only people here who have read it, despite the fact that it is, by default, better than all the comics you like, because its a self contained story with a beginning, middle, and end, and that alone makes it a step above the shit you (and Linkara) complain about but still spend money on anyway.
Re: Disney buys Marvel
Angry nerds can ironically be summed up by The Losers.
'Y'know, for a revenge-driven conspiracy nut, you're pretty fucking gullible.'

What is this The Losers you keep speaking of?

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Then why the fuck are you complaining? Need to fill a complaint quota or something?Vendetta wrote:And that would be why I don't watch his reviews or read the comics involved therein.
Capital. So you now know wich comics I like, just because I like Linkara's reviews. And I also like how you claim your tastes to be superior, despite the fact that tastes tend to be a matter of personal opinion, not measurable fact.Vendetta wrote: despite the fact that it is, by default, better than all the comics you like, because its a self contained story with a beginning, middle, and end, and that alone makes it a step above the shit you (and Linkara) complain about but still spend money on anyway.
You should pay attention to Stark's remarks about angry obsessive comic nerds, because you just proved you are one of them.
