The Gene Generation

Post by JGregory32 »

First of all I must admit that I'm not picky when it comes to Sci-Fi movies. I'll watch pretty much anything, good, bad, and terrible.
The movie "The Gene Generation" falls into the last category but for a very specific reason.
I don't usually do movie reviews, and when I do type one up it's usually because it pissed me off in some way.
This topic is more about a warning to other visitors to this board, Gene Generation will piss off anybody with even basic knowledge of biology.
The art design of the movie is great, its got kind of a Bladerunner meets Geiger theme going on and for a movie set in a dystopian future that's great. The casting wasn't bad either, all the actors did their best and the main character played by Bai Ling was watchable.
Where this movie fell down was the script and the science. The dialog between the characters was okay, and you could tell that the writers had some experience in the past creating charcters, we do care about these people. WHat the writers don't have is any science background.
The movie revolves around the idea of a DNA weapons. People called DNA hackers kill other people be inserting foreign DNA into their targets. This is when, I kid you not, the victims start sprouting CGI tentacles that kill. Oh an this takes a matter of seconds. :banghead:
The main character is an assasian who works for the corner from CSI (Las Vegas), and her job is to kill DNA hackers.
Got that people? Our main character is an assasian who kills other assasians becasue she gets paid for it.
Did I mention her brother? Yeah, she has a brother who has a gambling problem and he gets in trouble with the local loan shark, breaks into his neighbors house and steals what turns out to be the mother of all DNA weapons.
I want to repeat that, the neighbor of the assasian has the mother of all DNA weapons stored in his house, behind nothing more than a simple door lock.
Anyway lots of stuff happens, people die, more people die, CGI tentacles are going everywhere and we are treated to a few actually very emotional scences.
I do feel bad for the people who worked on this movie, with the exception of the science content and the STUPID way it drives the story, this would be a great movie.
Ohh and Bai Ling was the largest nipples I've ever seen, there are only two scenes in the movie where we are shown them but DAMN! they kinda steal the show.
BTW If there is an actual special place to put movie reviews could somebody direct me to it?

Off-topic would usually be the right area for movies. If it is a science fiction movie, we usually post it in the sci-fi section.
Humans are such funny creatures. We are selfish about selflessness, yet we can love something so much that we can hate something.

Having seen nude pictures of her, yes, they're quite fascinating.

This is the right place.

Anyway, this film sounds so hilariously unscientific that I'll probably have to see it myself now.

Why is this terrible? Unless you actually do mean ass-asian in stead of assassin. In which case it might be.

I can never get that damned word right.
Having your main character be an assassin who kills other assassins means that you automatically side against her. It doesn't help that her brother (who is a bit of an ass) comes off as a much more sympathic character. By the time the films over you really care more about the minor players than the main, which is usually a sign of bad writing, or acting.
Either way the movie was bad.

Why? I think that an assassin who kills other assassins, as opposed to innocent people is a fine upstanding individual. I mean, do you also hate Blade and Angel because they're vampires who kill other vampires?

Have a very nice day.

Agreed, not to mention Dexter, who manages to be a very likable guy despite being a serial killer that kills other serial killers.

Somehow that seems ironic given your avatar.

Though of course, Eversors are somewhat related, despite their sinisterness, it's usually a fair bet anyone they kill deserves it.

However, there are no innocents in the Imperium, only people who haven't fallen into heresy yet.
