DMW Unveils latest "Thundergod" model at Dominion Pavilion
In a move more geared towards the domestic market than exports, DMW has unveiled it's most recent "Thundergod" model line of pick-ups.
"With its roomy crew-sized cab, serious payload and towing capacity, standard four-wheel drive, and torquey diesel V8 engine, the ThunderGod is an all-purpose brute." Said a DMW Spokeswoman. "The XXXL Model includes mechanisms for CBR defense, for those trying to ek out a living in recently cleared parts of the Shepistani Security Zone."

BIKES WITH GATLING GUNS
"You can't be serious..."
"Well, they didn't call us MADNESS for nothin'. As usual, this is just a proof of concept. Which is why it'd shoot your legs off if you actually fired the guns at this point. Gotta fix that..."
"But... why? Who needs it!?"

Palace of the Soviets, Stasograd
"So you want to use the existing complex to house one of these...things." Yuri said with a frown, he obviously didn't like the idea that was being proposed. "Out of all the secure facilities in the Union, why the one beneath the Palace of the Soviets?"
"Oh, but this is just one of the locations I will use. There are others as well." Kane said with a smile and handed Yuri and the President folders containing important documents relating to the mysterious SICKLE Project.
"You want to put one of them into Space?" President Shady Sirah laughed. "I like your stile, my friend."
"Bah...this is a waste of our resources." Yuri snarled. He really didn't like this idea.
"I assure you that is not the case." Kane smiled. "Security for this project is of the utmost importance, and you can't get much safer than...space." A smile spread out across Kane's face.
A moment passed in silence as the President contemplated the decision.
"Alright, do it." He finaly said. "But SICKLE better prove it is worthy of all this trouble."
"Don't worry Comrade President...it will." Kane smiled. "It will..."

Holy Fucking Unreal Time
PRAVDA: The Misterian Talks a success"
The 'Misterian Meeting' that was held in Stasograd between representatives of the new Misterian Government, the Union of Crimson and Shadow Republics and Cascadia has yielded positive results. It would appear that the Government of Misteria has agreed to the Cascadian proposal relating to the refugee crisis occurring within the country. Emigration will be permitted to all those who wish to lave the country...[More]
UCSR Fleet to remain in Misteria
The Union Fleet currently present in Misterian waters will remain on duty there for the foreseeable future, until the situation in the country has stabilized. The fleet will be assisting the evacuation of any remaining foreign citizens and the termination of any further hostilities within Misteria.
Military advisers arrive in Misteria
UCSR military advisers have arrived to Misteria to help train the Misterian Armed Forces to better fulfill their duties in defense of their country. Their main priority for now appears to be the Misterian Army, so that they can better deal with any potential rebels. Rumors are abound that the UCSR will train Misterian Pilots and Naval Personell...
Rebuilding the Ruined...
The Union has dispatched a special team of engineers and experts to Misteria, their job is to help rebuild the war ravaged country and bring it back to it's former status. These men and women are experts with much experience from the rebuilding efforts in the former Border Regions. We have also been informed that the Supreme Soviet has authorized a rather large aid package for Misteria, to help this new Socialist Nation get back up on it's feet.

Over Mortimer's Claim
The Sirnothi AC-208 flew over the region. 4 SAAF AC-208s, 2 C-22s, and a chemical decomintination company had been sent to Tian Jiao to take part in the INTERNAL LOOK exercise. The overseas participation of Sirnothi forces was considered an important benchmark in the re-integration of Sirnoth into the wider world.
"Pizza Hut, this is Wagon-3." The Sirnothi pilot said. "OPs officer has confirmed location of that Red FROG."
"Roger Wagon-3." Came the voice of the TAO of the Elizabeth City. "Stay clear of the area. Shot over."
"We're clear."
A NATACMS missile exited the Elizabeth City, heading for the target in Mortimer's Claim. It impacted the site perfectly.
"Pizza Hut, this is Wagon-3, it's dead, over. We confirm a operational kill."
"Roger Wagon-3."
Results: INTERNAL LOOK continues in Tian Jiao.

Combat Quarterly
- The Syndicate of the North Frequesuan Trust today voted in favor of the Armed Forces Bill of 2019 presented to the executive branch last month. The most important parts of the bill are:
- The purchase of three Calico Jack class drone warfare destroyers and seven Ranger class air warfare destroyers in the 2019-2027 period. These ships will replace the Crimson Dubloon and Standard class destroyers. An option for one more DWD and three more Ranger class ships is included in the bill.
- The purchase of a second fleet carrier of the Colossus class, to be delivered in the 2025-2030 timeframe. At 65,000 tons the Colossus, a Byzantine design, is over half again as large as the NFT's only current fleet carrier, the 42,000 ton Monkeylord. The two ships are projected to operate together for at least some amount of time, seeing as the Monkeylord isn't expected to be retired until 2035 at the very earliest. In return for the sale NFT industries are expected to be involved in the design and construction of the Colossus class.
- A green light has been given for the purchase by the army of an additional number of AZR-1 'Creepy' and AZR/AL-1A 'Azrael' aeroscraft gunships. The succesful deployment of the first batch of gunships in defense of roadwords and other economic activities in the former CFR has convinced the Syndicate that the armed airships can perform a similar tasks patrolling the NFT's holdings in Eastern Frequesue and in Northern Velaria.
- Delivery of four A-x21 Cicada to the NFAF has been completed. These light fighters, of a new design by Miratian firm Mirakarm, are being considered for the Syndicate-sponsored 'beefing up' the air forces of the Fimbulwinter and Paradise Island regions. The Winter Army, in control of Fimbulwinter, has taken possession of two of the modern '4.75 generation' fighters.
- Camp Kittyhawk is readying itself for the launch of the first Vulcan rocket from its launch pads next month. Mission Lucky Seventeen is aimed at drastically expanding the Concord space station, which currently consists of a command module and a flight module. Lucky Seven will expand the station by adding a habitation module, an observation dock and a secondary flight module. Although these additions were initially planned to be successive rather than simultaneous after a series of delays and setbacks the Rocket Authority decided to opt for a single mission, leasing a mighty Vulcan rocket from international space agency FASTA to do the job in one go. The expansion of the Concord space station is expected to be a week-long affair and one of the most complicated continuous space missions undertaken by the NFT thusfar.
- The S-3 Silver Shrike has succesfully completed its fifth test flight, consisting of a take-off from Camp Kittyhawk AFB followed by a mission into Low Earth Orbit where aspects of its Starshark hard-kill point defense system were tested. Details of the mission were classified by the Rocket Forces, but according to a spokesperson the tests were "a radical success". The Shrike that flew the mission is the third prototype to fly and the first S-3B to fly into space. The S-3B unlike the S-2/3 and the S-3A that completed earlier missions is practically identical to the production model that is expected to enter service in 2020.
- Earlier this week the second Millennium class amphibious assault carrier, Farbanti's Fortune, was commissioned in a festive ceremony at the Blues Brothers military yards of La Palma. She is the sister ship to the Adventure and completes the NFN amphibious force projection arm, which now consists of two amphibious assault carriers, two Mysore class amphibious transport docks, and four William Dampier class flexible support ships.
- Simultaneously at Kruger Peak AFB in central Sabika a similar ceremony was held to celebrate the official formation of the NFT's first heavy bomber squadron. The 51st Iron Knights are originally a Coilerburger outfit with a lineage dating back to the first War of the Worlds. They are the first of three squadrons to receive their CSB-01 heavy supersonic bombers, manufactured in the UCSR.

INTERNAL LOOK exercise ends in Tian Jiao
The INTERNAL LOOK exercise has finished in Tian Jiao, with participants agreeing that "important lessons have been learned" about the rapid mobilization and deployment of OD and Sirnothi forces overseas. The ODN DDGN Elizabeth City will next head to Serenity to make a port call...[More]
John Smith arrives in Cascadia
The ODN STAR CAGN John Smith, on a tour of the Eastern Pacific, is making a port call in the Pacific Union member state of Cascadia. EASTERN PARTNERSHIP Exercise begins off of North coast of Shepland
The ODN, Augustine, and Sirnothi navies have restarted the EASTERN PARTNERSHIP exercise. Prior to the Pathogen War, the exercise was held annually between the navies of the 3 countries. Following the Pathogen War Sirnoth took a very isolationist stance as economic woes mounted, and suspended participation. This marks the first EASTERN PARTNERSHIP exercise since 2010. The goal of this year's exercise is to "establish rapport with the major navies of the Impact Crater, refine maritime security practices, and perform heightened ASW evolutions." The PF class leader Neuse River will be taking part in exercise, as well the Accotink, Godspeed, and Fairfax City. The Augustine navy will have one of it's AAW frigates, the Dragon taking part, and the Sirnothi navy will be using an ex-Shinra frigate, the Hecate.
Japanistan has made a public statement denouncing the exercise, stating that "the choice of location is a clear attempt to antagonize and spy on the Empire fo Japanistan."...[More]

Navy in close discussions with Constantinople Shipyards over new LHD and LST designs.
The Navy is in close discussions with Constantinople Shipyards over new LHD and LST designs. The designs are expected to range from 25-30,000 tonnes. A selection of designs are being discussed, and the Navy is expected to announce its decision mid-year. The ships may be nuclear powered, and likely will use a new micro molten salt reactors developed by Byzantine Heavy Industries that are entering certification at the moment.
Nuclear Energy Agency details plan to renew Byzantine nuclear power
The Nuclear Energy Agency has announced plans to replace many of Byzantium's old nuclear reactors. Very High Temperature Molten Salt Reactors by Byzantine Heavy Industries feature prominently in the plan, owing to the unprecedented safety standards, fuel economy, and efficiency it offers. The Nuclear Energy Agency plans to also build Integral Fast reactors and Pebble Bed reactors proposed by Tesla Electric Industries. Advanced Pressurized Water reactors and micro-sodium cooled and molten salt reactors by Byzantine Heavy Industries will also be funded and purchased to power selected areas. The multi-billion dollar plan is likely to take up to over a decade to complete.

Prime Noir - Interlude
Secret Military Area 6
"How deniable can we be?", Paul finally asked. Rufus Shinra listened intently, as the military men outlined their plan.
Morski Zamek, six hours later
"Samuel Fiszerski?
The man sighed, finishing the apple he just bought from a street vendor. He turned around, casually brushing his ragged hair and shifting the small tourist backpack he wore slung over his shoulder.
"What?", he asked, despite knowing all too well. The duo he saw standing there was unmistakable - the one who asked the question wore a civilian suit, but didn't quite shake the military stance. The other was...a giant. Truly unmistakable as anybody else, "Wow.", Fiszerski could only say, "I never thought I'd meet comrade Hammer."
"Please, no names.", the suited guy said, "Let's walk there."
Fiszerski snorted, "Oh, please. If you wanted secrecy, you wouldn't have brought him along."
"Point.", the suit said in agreement. He looked around, making sure nobody was listening in, "My name is Stefan Nalecki, I work for Section III of the General Staff."
"No", Fiszerski said, and turned to walk away
"What? You don't even know what I wanted to say."
Fiszerski turned around and smiled wickedly, "You wanted me to take part in something dangerous and secret, with a high risk of capture and/or death."
"Well, yeah."
"Exactly. No. I quit the business a long time ago."
"Sam, it's not like the usual.", Nalecki caught up, with Hammer still in tow. The man looked like he was looking for something to kill.
"How so?", Fiszerski said ironically. The trio halted at a red light, waiting for it to change.
"It's the King's daughter, Sam. We need you to help us find her."
The light changed, and pedestrians entered the street. Fiszerski didn't, staring off into space. Both men watched him intently.
"I'm not sure I'm up to it.", he finally said, his voice suddendly raspy, "It's been a long time."
"Don't worry. This stuff's like riding a bike."
It took a good five minutes before Fiszerski finally nodded slightly, "Fine. I'm in."
"I'm glad. You made the right choice."
"Yeah. I hope so.", Fiszerski replied and crossed the street, disappearing into the crowd.
"This is the legend you've been talking about, comrade?", Hammer finally spoke, looking completely surprise, "Doesn't look like a proper soldier."
"Oh, where we're going, we'll need him more than an entire batallion.", Nalecki replied, and looked at his watch, "Let's go."
"What about him?"
"He'll find us, don't worry."

TXRS orders new Offshore Patrol Cutter
The existing Ouyang-class cutters have been deemed too large for most of the roles it is currently being used for. Approximately half of them are to be transfered to the TXN for conversion into Ouyang-class frigates. The new, as yet unnamed class of OPC will supplement the remaining Ouyang-class cutters.
Several contenders were put forth, including a variant of the Neuse River-class corvette, and a variant of the Ocelot-class in use by the Cascadian Navy. The Ocelot-class got the final nod. Approximately a dozen will be ordered.
Naval railgun nears service tests
The Mk76 naval railgun is currently slated to be installed on the Li. It will take the place of the current Mk71 8" gun.
Type 19 Tank prototype unveiled
Having been undergoing testing for some time before now, the Type 19 will supplant the Type 11 MBT in the armored division of the TXA, as well as replace the Type 66 still in use by the TXMC. It provides several improvements over the Type 11, which it is based on. Most notable is the liquid propellant gun.

Muon and Neutrino Research goes forward
The Ministry of Scientific Research and the Byzantine National Institute of Standards and Technology (BNIST) and the National Science Foundation have agreed to co-fund the next generation colliders. While funds continue being funneled into the Indophal Super Collider, the NSF and BNIST were busy planning the next generation collider, which were to be Muon colliders. NSF and BNIST will also fund neutrino sources, which will be based on the Muon collider technology. It is expected that the neutrino source will be built in Anatolia, while decision for the location of the Muon collider is currently not made.

"This comrade, is what we call, UDD," said the Byzantine Physicist. He was speaking to the UCSR Physicist who had arrived to study the new substance.
The UCSR Physicist blinked. Somewhat in awe of the new substance. "You know what possibilities this would promise if we could made lots of it?"
"Of course, Comrade. A brave new world."

FROM: Marchioness Cornelia Lamperouge, Secretary of Defense
TO: All interested defense contractors
To whom it may concern,
The Langley Armed Forces are officially declaring tenders for the following:
- Refitting of the amphibious assault ship HMS Ashford with gas turbines and a hull extension to accomodate a larger hangar while retaining usage of the well deck, as with the Tian Xian Chatham Isle class.
- At least one hundred (100) amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicles for the Langley Marine Corps, with possible adoption by the Langley Army. A factory is to be set up in Langley for licensed production of these vehicles.
- AWACS and aerial refueling aircraft to replace existing E-3C Sentry and KC-135R Stratotanker aircraft. At least four (4) of each replacement are to be acquired, and it is preferable that they both be based on the same airframe in order to reduce maintenance and logistics.
- High-altitude reconaissance aircraft to replace existing B-57F Canberras. At least eight (8) aircraft are to be acquired.
- At least two (2) long-range VIP passenger aircraft to replace existing VC-137C Stratoliners.
- An assortment of UAVs to fulfill various roles throughout the branches of the Langley Armed Forces. Exact numbers are to be determined.
I ship Eino Ilmari Juutilainen x Lydia V. Litvyak.

- Comrade Tikhomirov, please man your station. Comrade Tikhomirov...
The dull voice could not eclipse the man's overjoyed cries - it was a joy he shared with his team of physics, colleagues from Byzantium and other CATO nations which were invited - under very strict secrecy regime, of course, and only those nations which had full membership - to witness a monumental event. The first industrial line for production of UDD (known only as "Izdelie 1058", the publications on which were silently removed from science journals over the last decade) started working routinely, without failures. Tikhomirov knew he would be presented the award of the Hero of Socialist Labour, Order of the Crimson Star and possibly even Hero of the Union. Of course, this industrial line that consumed enormous amounts of power, was not to serve the ridiculously infantile fusion power generation industry - that had yet to mature to generate enough demand for the "perfect fuel" that was UDD.
It was made to serve the giant CATO military-industrial complex. And it's plans were grandiose. Last month the test batches of UDD micro-warheards, merely a cubic centimeter in size, were detonated with yields far in excess of everything so far achieved by miniaturization, all of these warheads ignited by laser.
From this day onwards, the sprawling web of military orders started flowing into the cancellary of the ISA, demanding warhead cores for everything - ship missiles, "special" air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, artillery shells. The Union Armed Forces were entering a new thermonuclear age. With a substance that weighs 140 kilograms in a volume of 1 centimeter, the payloads of tactical bombers and fighters became a deadly array of thermonuclear mini-bomblets, missiles, bunker-busters and even thermonuclear-core mines. Production lines would make missile warheads of extremely small size but each with a several dozen kiloton yield, mortar rounds, tank shells and tank-fired rocket-assisted guided missiles, MRLS nuclear warheads. Superclean airburst explosions of UDD would make their use quite acceptable for the common soldier on the battlefield, fallout would be minimized. Such were the "products" that the I.S.A. marketed only inside CATO.
These products would bring a real, not an imaginary revolution in warfare. Not radioactive, ultra-dense, ultra-compact, laser-ignited... Even the most obsolete craft could now bring lots of ultra-small, but extremely potent nuclear bombs. Every small missile boat, every fighter plane, hell, even every soldier would became a nuclear threat that could not be discounted.
Of course, some time would pass before enormous quantities of weaponized UDD would spread around the world, but the first steps were laid now. The round of applause that met Tikhomirov's pompous statement of the "1000th jubilee warhead being out" was deafening.
- My friends and comrades! - General Korabelnikov took the stage. - Colossal nuclear bombs were tested in the recent decade, colossal in size and demanding a lot of space on our strategic bombers, on our submarines, on our ships and vehicles. This is no longer the case. We are entering an age of weapons that I could easily put into my backpack, walk away and destroy an entire city at will. With great power comes responsibility. This invention will make the CATO nuclear deterrent arsenals the deadliest and the most efficient nuclear deterrents on the entire planet. It would make nuclear weapons more accessible for everyday use by CATO forces and increase their firepower, making any attempt to attack the Combine - even in a small local conflict - an exercise in futility, no matter be it MESS, Japanistan, IRT or any other foe who would dare to become the agressor. To explain the potency - the mass of a Tsar Bomb is 50 times less volume if made from UDD. We reinstate that the licensing of UDD production complexes is only possible on the highest cooperation level inside the CATO, longstanding commitments to security, with agreements made by the heads of state and the directly subordinate heads of all respective ministries that would ever be ordering the produce. We have to keep these weapons safe and secure, ready to defend our nations. If you have questions, please proceed to the Static Displays in halls 1-3, where you can inquire all the necessary information and receive help with processing requrests and documents shall you need it. I congratulate the scientific community of the Combine and you all with this monumental breakthrough.
The hall went silent for several seconds.

“I'll be damned” Sidney whispered as he put down the file marked 'top secret'. “Those sons of bitches actually did it.” He'd been following the UDD project with the detached disinterest of the layman ever since he'd been informed of it in a top-level CATO briefing. It had seemed a pipeline, another in a long lone of bizarre super-weapon projects, maybe something Itler would've dreamed up in his fever dreams, the months before the Red Army reached the gates of Sarajevo.
Clearly that impression had been wrong. That knowledge sent a tingle down his spine. “... mortar rounds, tank shells and tank-fired rocket-assisted guided missiles, MRLS nuclear warheads...” the report had said. He had a gut feeling the nature of warfare was about to change dramatically – as dramatic perhaps as the skirmishes of the Frequesuan natives had changed after Bertrand Frequesque sailed his six-gun barque into Fenraven Bay bay to make landfall.
Suddenly he was glad he wasn't the President anymore.
He shrugged. That train of thought was for another time. He reached out, pulled a secure phone from the glass table and dialed a number. “MacBride. How goes things in Velaria?”
Palace of former God-President Macias
City of Mdobe, Bissauru, Velaria
“I believe congratulations are in order, general... Or should I say, president?” the man who called himself Chiffrovitz smiled as he sauntered into the palace that had once belonged to the god-president of Bissauru, Teodoro Macìas.
General and rebel leader Hugo Shroomvez stood on one of the palace's many balconies and savored the sight of the South Velarian Sea. “General will suffice for now. I have yet to decide upon my new title.” After several weeks of fierce fighting the troops of the rebel leader had finally broken the security forces and militias that remained loyal to their dead leader. The survivors had scattered and run for the northern jungles, much like Shroomvez had done once after his first failed coup.
Of course his soldiers hadn't believed their leader would rise from the dead like some of Macìas' supporters did. But that didn't matter right now. He'd deal with those fools later, and extend to them the same benevolency Macias' had done his own troops.
Chiffrovitz opened a cabinet and pulled out a bottle of champagne the dead president had obviously been hoarding. He poured the bubbly brew into two crystal glasses and presented one to Shroomvez. “Well then, general, a toast is in order?”
General Shroomvez smiled as they toasted and drank the Canissian champagne.
The first inkling that something was horribly wrong Shroomvez only got when the face of his mercenary friend drained of all color. As Chiffrovitz clawed at his collar and fell to his knees the general felt his legs cramp up. He tumbled to the floor. Fire seemed to fill his stomach and lungs, making breathing difficult. The light dimmed as it became increasingly more difficult to draw air. What a pathetic way to go was the last thought of Hugo Shroomvez before everything went dark.
The palace erupted in chaos. Soldiers uselessly rushed to the aid of their fallen leader, trying unsuccessfully to find his hidden assassin. The roar of a landing helicopter filled the palace courtyard. Doors slammed open and shut, weapons were waved under innocent people's noses. In the turmoil, his personal bodyguards dragged Chiffrovitz' body to the waiting Risc Paramilitary Solutions chopper.
Result: Hugo Shroomvez is fatally poisoned.

Executive Briefing Room
"...And here is our initial report based upon the recovery of a complete set of the Shepistani Archives. The rock-chuckers, ah, Shepistanis kept meticulous records, in hard copy form, on 8mm tapes, hard drives, microfiche..." Norman Shroomar was saying.
"Microfiche?" Lonestar said.
"Oh yes, they were quite thorough." Shroommar said, with an air of wishing that the funding for the OD National Archives was as good. "We also have an indepth report on prospective Japanistani agents based upon their relationship with Shepistan, as well as who their handlers are. This will be a boon to our intelligence operations in Japanistan. Of course, we also have a list of former agents within CATO, but BMI specified we start with Japanistan..."
"Thank you Dr. Shroomar, that will be all."
The archivist looked surprised at the abrupt dismissal(he had a feeling Lord Fairfax didn't like him, although he didn't know why), then shrugged, stood up, and left.
Lonestar picked up the report(he was glad to see it was only the summary, and the detailed classified report had been sent to BMI) and started reading.

THE Lord Fairfax government has lied, cheated, and stolen from the people of the Old Dominion for years. In this past election the Whig party used scare tactics to get their "war candidates" in place, and despite promises of controlled growth of the naval and air forces(forgetting for the moment whether or not we need to grow those forces) there has already been much slippage. The new "Anti-submarine" carriers are particularly good examples.
Submarine threats have proliferated in recent years, and so the ODN attempted to include a pair of CVHs in the Fleet 2030 plan starting in 2015. Coming on the heels of the massive expenditure(and proposed expenditure!) of the STAR nuclear combatants the Librul party could not, in good conscience, approve funding at the time. Indeed, we proceed into a budget fight to get the second flight of STAR DDGNs removed from the F2030 plan entirely. Then, through a campaign of fearmongery, then Whigs fooled the Dominionite people enough to put themselves in power. The 25,000 ton CVHs turned into 40,000 ton conventional aircraft carriers. As the ranking Librul on the House oversight committee, I've learned that the two carriers will be closer 50,000 tons than 40,000. Is this honesty? Is this fiscal prudence? The anti-submarine carriers will be larger than the FLEET carriers of many of our peer competitors!
The sole major system the Lord Fairfax government has backed awya from sicne the Whigs taking over was the proposed new reactors for the second flight of DDGNs. In a rare display of fiscal soundness the decision was made to retain the original reactor the design in order to reduce logistics costs. Of course, the real fiscal prudence would be not keep purchasing STAR DDGNs.

Risc Paramilitary Solutions Helicopter
Over the South Velarian Sea
Chiffrovitz awoke, hacking and wheezing, to the loud droning of helicopter engines. He looked up, only to find Michael MacBride leaning over him, a grin on his face and a syringe in his hand. “Welcome back to the land of the living” he said.
The mercenary banker and accountant wanted to spit a venomous reply, but was interrupted by another bout of wheezing coughs. “Merde” he groaned, then looked at MacBride accusingly. “If you'd told me it would hurt this goddamn much I would've never gone along with it.”
“Oh come on” MacBride's grin widened. “For getting poisoned to death it wasn't so bad, was it? Besides it had to look real.”
“Well, did it?”
“You fooled everyone” MacBride extended a hand and helped the accountant up from the vibrating floor of the helicopter. “It was an Oscar-worthy performance.”
“Glad my death could be of service.” The underworld banker, of mixed Shadow-Canissian descent, was still shaken by the experience. “Gods I feel horrible.”
“Here” MacBride handed him a hipflask. “Doctor says it'll take a day or two to flush the poison out of your system, but after that you should be good as golden.”
Chiffrovitz took a sip from the flask. The whisky burned a way down his throat, and he coughed again. “Nice. As long as I never have to come back to Velaria again.” He sat down on one of the benches and straightened his jacket and shirt. “So, Shroomvez is dead. Now what?”
The former staff sergeant of the Central Frequesuan Army folded his hands behind his head and leaned against the wall of the passenger compartment. “Now, we get his far more pliable second in command to give us everything we want.”

Prime Noir - Interlude
Canissia
The driving rain made it easy to conceal a small group of men, even if they stood out from the crowd due to their stance and physique. People didn't bother ogling strangers when they attempted to grab a cab before being soaked.
It still paid to be discreet, of course. Hence why Hammer wasn't with them, instead travelling as a diplomatic courier and being spirited to the air base via helicopter from the USCR embassy - there was just no way to hide that man in public. The remaining four, however, remained togethe rand calmly boarded a train to the town to Port Jutes, a tiny town near Canissia's coast.
And, completely coincidentally of course, the base of Shinra Patrol Squadron 3.
It would only take them a scant fifteen minutes to cover the 150 kilometers between stops, riding one of Canissia's most advanced bullet trains.
Hence why no passengers would notice none of these men drank any alcohol at all during the trip.
Port Jutes Airbase, dusk
The briefing was almost finished. The commander in charge of Patrol Squadron 3 went over most of the assignments for the night, most of the air crews received their flight plans and sealed orders already, "...and CA-172 will shadow a CATO battlegroup conducting flight excercises off the Palestinian coast. Intel wants to take a good look at their latest S-500 sets, so try to troll them a little."
The pilots snickered at the expression. Trolling radars was one of their major tasks here in the Med, where MESS patrols often ran into CATO naval ships. And, of course, this place was the only one where they could get a good look at the emission of CATO air defence radars without inciting an international incident.
"Right...", the commander said, smiling, "Drink your coffee and watch yourselves. I don't want any incidents.", he said, referring to the infamous interception of a Shinra Orion by a Shroomanian F-15, where the fighter jocks managed to almost make the Orion's crew ram their fighter. Then again, listening to shitpop blaring through the short-range radio for two hours could drive anyone into homicidal rage.
Like with those Koalas in a Farbanti zoo. That was gruesome.
CA-172 was parked on the far end of the ramp. It wasn't unusual: what was, however, were the people waiting for the aircrew near the airplane.
"Hi, guys. How are you tonight?", one of the unforeseen guests asked
The aircrew stood there for a second in dumbfounded silence. The three men standing out in the open were soon joined by two more, also dressed in nondescript tactical gear and wearing balaclavas. One of them was especially huge, and spoke with a thick Russian accent.
"What's the matter, comra...citizens? Have you not been informed of our mission?"
"Who the hell are you?", CA-172's command pilot, Lt. Cmdr. Johnson, finally managed to ask.
"We're your special passengers for tonight", the same guy who greeted them answered, "You are not to ask any questions, just get us to where we need to go."
"What?"
"It's all in your flight plan."
"Boss...is that guy Crimson? He sure sounds like one...", the crew chief observed, quite loudly.
"No questions", the mysterious stranger reminded him, "You can call me John."
"Wait a minute, now...", the command pilot tried to protest.
"Just open your damn envelopes, okay?"
The aircrew did, and a couple minutes later proceeded to power up their machine.
"I still don't think we should let a Crimson aboard our plane", the crew chief couldn't help but grumble, looking at their passengers, stowing their gear in the back.
He stopped doing that when one of them looked back, though.

It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.
