Arkham Asylum?

I dunno, the cutscenes are still a lot shorter then Metal Gear Solid 4. At least in Arkham Asylum, when a cool fight scene happens, you're the one playing it.

Re: Arkham Asylum?
I'm not finding unarmed combat very difficult any more, even on Hard. It's the stealth sections that are difficult on Hard, because if you get seen, you get shot, and if you get shot, you're dead.

I found the stealth to be the easiest part, even on hard. Then again that might be because I went through more than half the game before I realized batarang knockdowns with the L Trigger existed.DPDarkPrimus wrote:I'm not finding unarmed combat very difficult any more, even on Hard. Zod, did you work out how the rang disarm worked? Sometimes when I'd hit someone with a rang (and down them) they'd lose their weapon, but sometimes not. The aimpoints didn't seem to make any difference.

Fuck off dipshit. You haven't said one useful in this thread since you've been posting in it. All you've been doing thus far is playing the ever popular "Knee Jerk vs. Stark" game. Hey everyone, guess how you can make yourself end up looking exactly like the kind of asshole Stark is describing?Yogi wrote:Don't you see? It's pretty sad that the only way people can describe the game as "challenging" is by nitpicking aspects of the gameplay that might just suffer from plain ol' poor design. Playing the demo I was able to blow through the game effortlessly the first playthrough. That almost never happens, since most games require at least an hour or two of easy-mode play just to get used to the controls. But Bman:AA's controls are literally so simple they might as well be two-button QTE.
Best care anywhere.
Re: Arkham Asylum?
All that said - Again, it is not a TERRIBLE game; it's a really GOOD game - It's just pretty damned Metroid/Final Fighty, and if that's not what gets you off, then it's just fucking not for you, is it? (The best way I've heard it described is a Batman Simulator)
ALL games have shit that's retarded in them, except Star Control 2 . It's the ones, like B:AA, that succeed despite these flaws that make them memorable. Personally, I hope they do not change much in the sequel, which is definitely going to come out. They should for sure deepen the combat - but not too much, and improve the AI.
Ooh!How awesome would it be to have this same sort of gameplay in a more open-worldy Gotham City? As long as Rocksteady can avoid falling into the Mercenaries 2 trap, it'd be pretty fucking rad. You could use fire escapes, gargoyles on the outside of buildings, where they goddamned well belong, and shit like that to pull off your stealth moves. Use your 'rangs to knock out street lights and shit Ala The Darkness, hang dudes over the side of buildings and shit. One thing, though - they gotta keep the voice actors. Mark Hamil is the fucking Joker, IMHO, and Kevin Conroy IS the goddamned Batman. So If this does come to pass, I'll fucking buy it.
Can you IMAGINE what would happen if Rockstar got their grubby dickskinners on this IP? JIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Re: Arkham Asylum?
The game for me is really summed up where after another polished and dramatic cutscene, you realise you can only do gargoyle stuff on gargoyles. Not even gargoyle-like other stuff. It's all highlighed in easy-vision anyway, but there's no 'problem-solving', since the was you're 'supposed' to do each room is instantly obvious.

Re: Arkham Asylum?
You have to build up your combo to a 5x or so and then let the rang fly. Generally as long as you were facing the general direction of the armed goons it'd knock them over most of the time. But you don't really have a whole lot of fine control over it since it was a quick weapon thing.Stark wrote:You certainly seem to value making baseless, ignorant and stupid claims while contributing nothing to the thread! Re: Arkham Asylum?
How about you grow a dick and learn to read? Let's break down your laughable posturing.
A) I was actually agreeing with you.
B) And no, guys will look DIRECTLY AT YOU when you're A GIANT BLACK THING in a BRIGHTLY LIT ROOM and they KNOW BATMAN IS THERE and not see you. Is it even possible to be 'spotted' at all if you're in stealth and don't do anything? Seriously, a guy 'searching' for you can walk down a 20m gantry towards you in hang and not notice you. Thus, 'cataclysmically retarded' search AI.
C) The idea that the direction they are looking is relevant to what I said (ie, 'walk past') is pretty dumb
D) Quote the words I 'put in your mouth' or go eat some bleach.
Uh oh, you're dumb as fuck and can't even carry on a simple (and civil) conversation without jumping the gun to hilarious OMG STARK IS TEH EV0LS. That you can even type 'your own vitriol against the popular video game of the moment' when it's clear to everyone with a cock that I have no real problem with the game highlights your character flaws.

I haven't got far yet, but I love the game. The cut-scenes are to the point and the game genuinely tries to show you interesting things. The Riddler made the otherwise boring collectibles game into something actually amusing.
Also, the story makes its best effort to make sense. Ok, I'll probably get into something stupid and insane later on, but so far, everything is fine.

I wouldn't necessarily say the story makes sense. It's okay for a Batman story if you don't think about it too much, and it's mostly internally consistent, but making sense is a bit much.Zixinus wrote:I haven't got far yet, but I love the game. Just wanted to drop my two cents in and say that I love this fucking game. I haven't had this much video game fun since I first played GTA or Res Evil years ago. I even bought the damn strategy guide for it... something I vowed never to do. Good times.
I dunno if the Beatles Rock Band thing took the number one sales spot yesterday, but AA has already made a butt load of money... which means we can probably count on a sequel.

Re: Arkham Asylum?
What I also like is the many attempts at characterization.
Riddler for example: his riddles aren't all that clever. We learn the reason why he's driven to testing intelligence all the time and why he hates Batman. He is at lost at why Batman does what he does. He can't figure it out. Which shows that he isn't all that clever (still possibly highly intelligent, as he did figure out how to hack into Batman's com) but is driven to prove it. It makes sense, not terribly much, but that's comic books for you and the game handles it nicely.
The interviews were interesting. They were short but to the point. However, I have to agree that the Arkham staff is incompetent. This may be due to the fact that most wiser or even just saner psychologist don't want to work in a facility that has breakouts every few months if not every week, usually resulting in hospitalization if not death.
The first and foremost problem these psychologist have, is that they're confrontational. You don't say "but Batman's a hero!" or "you're a monster". The best you do is to suggest an idea and watch their reaction.
You smile, you nod and ask them to elaborate. People, even super-psychos, will blurt out what are the gears that drive them given enough encouragement and patience. The best interview tapes are from Harley Quin and that alone is saying something. She's the one that actively made the Joker open up.
The staff appears to be barely able to contain the prisoners even before the Joker came along.
Oh, and this is especially apparent with one inmate: Spoiler

Hell, all the meta-humans or whatever they're called should be moved to a distant, different facility and not locked up along with the most psychotic murderers. They have different requirements, they are far more dangerous than just any psychos and they need to be studied. The staff managing them need to be far better trained than the prison guards they have here.

Re: Arkham Asylum?
I noticed she was using her usual Harley voice, wheras in Mad Love she sounded more professional before putting on the costume. It fits with the perception I had of her character. IIRC, she got into college on a gymnastics scholarship and planned to make a career writing self help books. Her knowledge of the human mind might impress a layman, but someone really skilled at manipulating people will just see it as... well, a joke.

Re: Arkham Asylum?
The doctors I think, are obvious why they mostly incompetent: Arkham is probably the only place they got any work or they're somehow the most stupid, suicidal and desperate people to hold a Ph.D in psychology.General Zod wrote:Given how corrupt Gotham city's government was before Batman came along (even with Batman), it's really no surprise that Arkham can't get better doctors.Zixinus wrote:W

Think about it, this is Arkham asylum where all the normal inmates seem to be deeply psychotic just to fit in and where a deep desire to murder people seems to be brotherly trait among the non-staff residents. We have geniuses that are adept not only at manipulating people but also poses a deep knowledge of science (chemistry or biochemistry), various engineering-related fields, martial arts and who knows what else. These are only the normal humans. Then we have the super-humans who seem to start out as muscle mass that would make even the most obsessive body-builder cry out about excess, if not have incredible abilities or have a poisonous touch.
The guards are little more than transferred prison guards who deal with the patients with a strong, iron hand (albeit, they can hardly be blamed for doing so). Have you looked at the cells? They're practically prison cells, hell, they're referred to as such. There are gun racks scattered around key points of the facility for fuck's sake!
Then there are the breakouts. Breakouts apparently happen frequently, the facility can barely contain these people for any length of time. The superhumans need cells strong enough to contain a bomb explosion and the genius ones always appear to trick they way out of it. Usually the staff ending up in hospitalized care if not in body bags.
The facilities appear to be old, some sections of the building appear to be crumbling and unstable. Most of the equipment that's not donated by WayneTech seems to be older than the stuff in my local hospital (to get the picture: ex-soviet country with a socialised but corrupt, inefficient healthcare system that most politicians pissed on since the Russians left)!
The fact we haven't seen one non-violent crazy person in the entire facility tells us that Arkham is the refuse pile in mental healthcare system.
Any sane doctor with any degree that has even an ounce of common sense will avoid Arkham Asylum like a genetically-engineered flue virus.
Credo!
