Unknown Beastie found by Russian soldiers

Post by CaptainChewbacca »

Link
This creature was found by Russian soldiers on Sakhalin shoreline. Sakhalin area is situated near to Japan, it’s the most eastern part of Russia, almost 5000 miles to East from Moscow (Russia is huge). People don’t know who is it. According to the bones and teeth - it is not a fish. According to its skeleton - it’s not a crocodile or alligator. It has a skin with hair or fur. It has been said that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies, and we are lucky that people who encountered it first made those photos before it was brought away.

More pictures at the site. I gotta admit, I have NO CLUE what that is. I would guess one of the larger exotic sea snakes, but it's a long way to Sakhalin from the Indian Ocean.

I'd say dolphin or small whale. This image shows a dolphin skeleton. Looks pretty similar, but the head is not an exact match. However there are plenty of different types of dolphins and small whales to choose from. Whale skeletons are pretty freaky on their own, and the decomposition process makes things look even freakier.

I'm almost certain it's a beluga whale, which are conveniently native to Sakhalin waters.

EDIT: A pic of a beluga skull:

Wait five years and you'll see it on half the kooky websites around the internet.

No, no, it's not fake, it's SCP-682! It's escaped again! Run for the hills!

But no, seriously, there's no need to wait five years, it's been there for a while now... this has to be very old, because that article is very old, and I'm pretty sure that's from the same series of pictures.

Russia needs the reputation that it has a secret army of abominations. Fear will keep the former SSRs in line... fear of our mutant reptile legions!

Bwahaha! It's only slightly less addicting than TVTropes, which, by the way, has an article on them here.

The SCP Foundation also has an article on TVTropes, SCP-4445 (It's a joke SCP). Apparently, TVTropes is a front for the SCP Foundation with the intent of recruitment for the Foundation.

So you mean to say 'it is addictive' or 'it is addicting me', then?

PS, nicotine is ADDICTIVE. It is ADDICTING new smokers.

Addicting: Adj: Causing addiction.

The two are interchangeable.

EDIT: Yes, I mean addictive.

Because I could only find a source on Wiktionary? I guess... but still, it is used quite commonly in that context.

Well, it (Wiktionary), and this site both claim that the Oxford English Dictionary has it, but that dictionary's website is a subscription service, and I don't subscribe.

Wow you don't even get why you're wrong. It's an adjective. You're using it wrong. Something is addictive; it may be addicting someone. Just because fat nerds on the internet use it wrong doesn't make it right.

No, it claims that the Oxford dictionary has it as an adjective. I'm aware that it can be used as a verb. However, I am also aware that I cannot obtain any credible sources which support my argument, and thus, I concede.

Actually, Stark, that's how language works. If enough people use a word in a certain way, it becomes the actual right way to use it. Of course that doesn't mean it applies to this particular case. Just FYI.

I knew some idiot would say that. Yes, language constantly changes as words change in meaning or use, are introduced,e tc. So what? This use of 'addicting', almost exclusively by stupid nerds who read OMG SO ADDICTING websites, annoys the shit out of me. I'm just trying to change the language the same way they are. ;) You can't just claim (as he did) that xyz subculture uses a word wrong so it's right now. Heaven save us from gangstas if this is the case! :)

I mean, apostrophes are going to disappear one day. 'Addicting' is just a great big sign saying 'I'm a stupid cunt who reads TVtropes and super-excited nerd websites'.

I hear having imperfect grammar invalidates my point?

OH FUCKING WAIT.

PS, if I'm referring to a word as an entity what form am I supposed to use? Words change their meaning. OMG SHOULD HAVE SAID THEY'RE??? lol
