I Hate Glenn Beck

Post by Darth Wong »

I discovered something amusing today: my old personal website post from 2006 entitled "Why I Hate Glenn Beck" is apparently #1 when you do a Google search for "I hate Glenn Beck".

http://www.stardestroyer.net/Mike/Ramblings/?p=22

I have no idea how or why it climbed to that rank. I honestly would have expected someone to create an entire website by now devoted to mocking Glenn Beck and the kind of mouth-breathing knuckle-dragger who actually likes him. It's interesting how few people actually come right out and defend him, but most of the criticism is focused on the fact that I am "elitist" about the fact that Glenn Beck has the educational qualifications of a garbage truck driver.

You should really update that blog with the fact that Glen Beck since moving to Fox News is not just "random blue collar guy" but has moved from uninformed common man right over to crazy Black Helicopter fearing manifesto writing nut job.

I have said here before I don't know if Beck gives an Oscar worth performance of a man going slowly insane on air each night, or in fact he is going slowly insane each night. He had pushed every single Right Wing conspiracy out there. Never mind his recent paranoid ranting that his work place is filled with Communist imagery as cover by Keith Olbermann (Who only did a fair job of mocking it, Damn it I wish the Daily Show would return sooner)

Seriously since the Daily show went on hiatus he's upped his crazy intake to new levels.

Remember, the liberals control all media and want to change what you think. Which is why so many of the hits on such a search are Beck apologia. :)

Glenn Beck is whinging about the John Adams Project and he's interviewing somebody resembling a Mafia boss:

'Secondly, I don't see why "income inequality" is a bad thing. Poverty is not an injustice. There is no such thing as causes for poverty, only causes for wealth. lol, last post there as of this one;

This ought to be fun.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

I wonder what 'believe' means in this context, since the guy probably hasn't read it. Why would you have to 'believe' in a political document?

You have to "believe" in it if you treat it as an object of religious worship rather than a dry legal document.

That's it though; what does he 'believe' it represents? What's it a symbol for, in his view? What have you missed by not being forced to pledge allegiance to the flag every day in school?

I'm guessing he thinks I've lived a terrible life because I haven't had the divine privilege of living in America: a divine privilege which comes along with religious worship of the US Constitution (or at least the second amendment to it; I'm guessing "Ryan" is only barely aware of the rest of it).

I hate to be That Peanut Gallery Guy, but I never considered the political-correctness aspect of complaining about intellectual elitists. It seems mind-blowingly obvious in retrospect.

Presumably he means do you agree with what said document represents or states. Although the use of the word believe instead of agree, in this context makes his statement sound emotionally loaded. Also why do they HAVE TO USE CAPS?

It's funny, but just this very day my eyes were assaulted by a book at Barnes & Noble with the title Glenn Beck's Common Sense and I think I suffered a moment or two of brain-lock from the matter/antimatter-like mutual incompatibility of the phrases "Glenn Beck" and "Common Sense".

I know what you mean. I had much the same reaction when I saw Ann Coulter's book If Democrats had any Brains, they'd be Republicans.

As it is, I just can't watch people like Glenn Beck. I just can't believe that people can be that stupid.

You mean you just found out about that book wherein he thinks he is holding fast to the principles espoused by Thomas Paine? That book seems to be everywhere.

Ironically, I listened to the first 20 minutes of Glenn Beck's September 11 show, and I must admit, it got to me. After about five minutes' listening, I had a lump in my throat, remembering when I first found out about the attacks (I was in PA at the time), then seeing the wreaths and notes of sympathy in Ottawa and Toronto a week later, then seeing and smelling Ground Zero six weeks after September 11, when the ruins were still smoldering and buildings for blocks around were still covered with ash. Whoever produced the opening bit for that show did a great job, and if Beck had a hand in it, well kudos to him.

Beck, however, did not say anything while I was listening to the show, which was perhaps what made it memorable. Beck strikes me as an early years Limbaugh (hell he even looks a little like him), with a dash of Howard Stern or Dr. Demento. His schtick would have been amusing to me if I were still 23, but I'm not. Even if he is right on in his analysis or news reporting, the way he delivers it leaves me cold. I can't say I hate Glenn Beck, but I'm not a fan.

I know you've billed yourself on this forum on a counter-liberal platform (Attempting to be a logical social conservative), but I'm honestly hoping you meant 'was right' and this is just a grammatical fudge up.

I meant "was right," you are correct, to the point that he accurately reports the facts of stories that other sources also field. I don't pay much, if any, attention to his conclusions or editorializing, unless his conclusions make sense and are reflected in other sources. As background, I listen to him perhaps an hour a week and have only seen his Fox News segments on YouTube. His "what if there's a civil war in America" series was hilarious.

EDIT for double facts typo.

I've just finished reading that book, and it's actually pretty odd reading. It starts as a fairly standard "banks are ripping us off" screed and then slowly starts reading like a strange anti-progressive manifesto. Progressives are apparently the new commies/hippies/liberals, and they're going to eat away at America, so it's time for a revolution.

The highlight of the book is that the typefaces, headers and make it look like a Harry Potter novel.
