Re: The OotS thread
Again why would you have to trick V into taking the scroll? V didn't get tricked into signing anything. You just say 'Are you V? I have an urgent message for you here.' And hand over the scroll. Done.

Re: The OotS thread
There's presumably going to be a trial for custody of the children, so having a whole crowded store to corroborate the allegation fact that V is a high-level wizard with a hair trigger certainly helps, and may in fact be part of the service.
Re: The OotS thread
The pun on the "Instant Summons" hurt as much as V's life coming apart.

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

It's a pun?! And here I was trying to think of ways that the spell "Drawmij's Instant Summons" was involved.LadyTevar wrote:The pun on the "Instant Summons" hurt as much as V's life coming apart.

I guess my status as a bad pun fan is now confirmed, I enjoyed it.

When involved in any court case, you get Served with a Summons. This legal paperwork does take a little while... thus the pun on the Instant Summons.Lord of the Abyss wrote:It's a pun?! Re: The OotS thread
The question is did the summons bring the guy to V as some form of Teleport?

Re: The OotS thread
Silly thought, but it seems like the summons may be part of a plot to distract V from his task (and possibly from the lessons he learned in recent strips). He was prevented from buying the diamond dust, which the server didn't really need after all. Also, V's family life is a subject that gets him even more riled up than his pride in his own arcane abilities. I wonder if the fiends aren't somehow behind this, directly or indirectly pushing V's mate in order to agitate him into falling for another one of their offers.

Re: The OotS thread
Extremely unlikely. V's mate was upset enough outside factors are not needed.

Exactly. Remember this - V's mate didn't need to say "or else", but it was clearly implied.Solauren wrote:Extremely unlikely. V's mate was upset enough outside factors are not needed.

Re: The OotS thread
I was totally expecting it. (After all the alternative is another long court scene going on for strips and probably featuring those imbecile lawyers)
Still I loved the flashback panel. V's a total ass.

Re: The OotS thread
This shows a little more of the potiental growth from V.
If it's persoanl maturity growth, or more looking to take the quick and easy path (as Vader did)) is up in the air.

Considering V's attitude, I have to wonder how V got married in the first place.

Re: The OotS thread
Blackwing is increasingly awesome, not to mention cute.
Re: The OotS thread
Another thought: Why did the wizard provoke V? I don't think people in OotS can eyeball each other and know their level, so why start a fight with someone who might be powerful enough to fry you on the spot? If his whole job was to serve V with the summons, it would seem counter productive to have both the messenger and the paperwork reduced to ash.

Re: The OotS thread
The server could have potentially testified against V, since V responded to name-calling with 7th level spells (Quickened Lightning Bolt), maybe higher (the magic hand he pinned the guy with could be Clenched Fist or Crushing Hand, which are level 8 and 9 respectively). As for potentially being killed, they run by D&D rules, and there aren't that many instant death spells that prevent resurrection. And destroying the paperwork, which would probably require a disintegrate since these are magical summons, would only make V look even worse to the court.Darmalus wrote:Another thought: Why did the wizard provoke V? In summary, provoking V gave a good return on investment (making V look bad if he went to court) while risking little more than temporary inconvenience (lawyers can probably afford the material cost for the occasional Raise Dead spell, particularly if they have a Cleric on retainer).

Re: The OotS thread
That's still pretty damn silly. It could easily go the other way; 'My spouse sent these ass hole lawyers after me that harassed me rather than doing my job'
Considering Ootsverse has magical ways of verifying people's testimony I'm surprised they'd need to stoop to dirty tricks.

I don't know, which sounds worse?
"The lawyer was acting like a dick by insulting the person he was giving the summons to."
or
"When confronted with insinuations regarding his character class, the wizard almost immediately resorted to potentially lethal force."

It's possible that the spouse chosen an overly powerful lawyer for the task?

Re: The OotS thread
V does show a great depth of feeling and care for Inkyrius and the children. Inkyrius probably felt that V would be capable of showing that once that whole "quest for great arcane power" thing was over and was willing to wait. However, with the events concerning Dark V, those hopes were dashed.
Also, Blackwing is quickly becoming one of my most favorite Oots characters, although O-Chul is still in the lead. Now to determine who is more awesome, Blackwing or Señor Ala Negra (Blackwing)?

I dunno, I like Blackwing but his sudden verbosity feels a little deus ex machina. Like a recurring gag turned author mouthpiece.
