Would that make my heavily modded original car a "Kraut Rocket" (Volkswagen '54 heb, with oversized engine, dune racing transmission etc. (Thanks mom) which I still wonder whose stoned idea it was to "Trickout" such a Hippie Classic)

It's really quite sad that I can polish off anything up to mildly souped up Integra's with my dad's big Buick Lesabre. Not much short of a Type R will beat the Buick in a stoplight race, that's what loads of low end torque will for you. The thing is those Civics and whatnot have pretty narrow power and torque curves so they're only fast within a narrow rev range, mis-time a single shift and oops. The Buick on the other hand has a wide power band and it'll accelerate strongly throughout it's entire engine rev range, which is why I can smoke almost any rice car with a 6 passenger family sedan. Of course the Buick corners about as well as an oil tanker, but hey, it's big enough that several couples could have sex in the car at the same time.

When I was a baby, my dad had a Fiat, and he and my mom would squish a basket into the 'back seat' (it was actually more like a bench--no seat belts or anything--reeeeeeeeally small), toss me in there, and go screamin' around town.

I always loved those ads where they ask which car is the manliest. They pan over a Lamborghini Diablo, a Ferrari, a Hummer, and finally ... to a minivan. The minivan is, of course, the manliest car because only a grown man with a family will buy one. The pissant overcompensating strut-boyz get the others.

Name me someplace I can get Armored Plating and an Topside MG installed on a Mini-Van and I'll happy trade in my Hummer

the Car and Driver article for the Buick was "Darth Vader, your car is ready!" Those cars are truely an impressive site.

I've seen the Buick Regal turbos in action. They can't handle worth shit, and they have trouble putting the power to the ground in a straight line. The fact that a brilliant driver can compensate for these problems does not mean it's actually a decent performance car.

Pants-creaming power is nice, but I've always been partial to offroaders; that's part of the reason I bought my truck. I know my truck won't be able to do any serious rock crawling, but at least I can explore old access trails behind my house in the summer with relative confidence.

Maybe if I get rich one day I'll get a GTO and rock-crawler. And what the hell, a WRC car, too!

How about the classic Dodge charger... (AKA the Blademobile). There's also one with a huge air intake appears in the movie The Fast & The Furious... guy floors the gas and the thing rears up like a wild beast, front wheels in the air.

I wonder if it could actually do that... I mean it could just have been a "movie thing", but I wouldn't be surprised if it actually could do that (the power-wheelie I mean).

It could possibly do it if the rear shocks were softened. Chargers were powerful buggers. 425 horses and 480 ft.lbs. of torque. I think they're #3 on the power list for muscle cars. It would be more likely to just spin the tires, IMHO.
