Protesters who attended Saturday’s Tea Party rally in Washington found a new reason to be upset: Apparently they are unhappy with the level of service provided by the subway system.
Rep. Kevin Brady asked for an explanation of why the government-run subway system didn’t, in his view, adequately prepare for this past weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.
Seriously.
The Texas Republican on Wednesday released a letter he sent to Washington’s Metro system complaining that the taxpayer-funded subway system was unable to properly transport protesters to the rally to protest government spending and expansion.
“These individuals came all the way from Southeast Texas to protest the excessive spending and growing government intrusion by the 111th Congress and the new Obama administration,” Brady wrote. “These participants, whose tax dollars were used to create and maintain this public transit system, were frustrated and disappointed that our nation’s capital did not make a great effort to simply provide a basic level of transit for them.”
A spokesman for Brady says that “there weren’t enough cars and there weren’t enough trains.” Brady tweeted as much from the Saturday march. “METRO did not prepare for Tea Party March! More stories. People couldn’t get on, missed start of march. I will demand answers from Metro,” he wrote on Twitter.
Brady says in his letter to Metro that overcrowding forced an 80-year-old woman and elderly veterans in wheelchairs to pay for cabs. He concludes that it “appears that Metro added no additional capacity to its regular weekend schedule.”
You can't make this shit up folks.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
I did not know that a transport system could not suddently take on tens of thousends of people and not perform as well as it normally does. This is awful and it show's another government failing as well as a failing of 0bama.
I find it ironic though that they are moaning about a taxpayer funded service while they go off to protest another. I guess we should make the metro system private so that it runs better!.
And when Obama unveals plans to upgrade mass transit, I bet there will be another upcry about socialism invading the USA.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? ...and they will moan all over again? It's like the a natural cycle.
What goes through their heads though? Do they know that the metro is public owned and just stuff it out of their minds? Do they make exceptions to stuff like this or what? It's jarring that they can be so hypocritcal and not know it.
Are these guys for real? Seriously, does their brain function at all? How can they not see the disconnect here?

But you can't expand Public Healthcare Mass Transit! If you do, all those poor insurance workers taxi drivers will be left without work! The Free Market will work its magic and solve all your problems!
I would not be suprised if some of these people pick and mix what they wish to cry socialism over. I mean to some public transport may be a lifeline to them and therefore forgotten while they remember the evil dirty public healthcare.
The quote Narkis highlighted just shows that imo. They conveniently don't want to pay for cabs and moan about the overcrowded metro.
I wonder if any of them asked who would pay for the upgrades and service expansions...
I wonder what they would gripe about next with the same level of irony.

The answer is none. Brady himself voted against the stimulus (which included money for Metro) and he voted against funding the federal government's annual $150 million dollar operating tab for the system.
Now both obviously passed but for the last decade at least the federal government has basically decided that Metro is the local jurisdiction's problem and hasn't invested a dime in to operation or maintenance even as tens (and likely hundreds) of thousands of federal workers depend on the system to get to work. The stimulus and operating money are essentially just enough to keep up with deferred maintenance that has been backlogged. Even after the June 22nd accident (whose roots certainly are linked to those of the deferred maintenance issue) Congress has continued to begrudge any support for the system.

Selfishness sums them up perfectly. It ties in with the healthcare argument and this moaning. They don't care unless it suits them. I wonder if they'd be willing to really make the metro private.
I'd feel more annoyed if I was one of the people who were just commuting - when I was in London during the time of the last Isreali/Palestinian shenanigans, I would regularly find myself sharing stations with a few thousand placard wielding angry people. The Tube took the hit fairly well, but good gods, it doesnt half make you want to dig for the surface for some fresh air.

I actually do wonder what it's like to be on one of those protester filled metro's. I mean given that you are having a lot of emotionally charged people packed on what could be a rush hour train route, I'd imagine that it has to be a bit uncomfortable and that arguments could potentially break out. Did that ever happen on any of the trains you went on Dartz?

Nope, the magical influence that is the Underground took hold of them even then. That is to say, they all sat/stood in silence, avoiding eye contact at all costs, lest they come into contact with a maniac.

Talking to someone on the London Underground (beyond a travel related question such as "does this train go to x") is the ultimate faux pas. This is a system where people will sit in the carriage and studiously ignore a masturbating tramp in the seat opposite.
Yeah, I have not been on for ages. I don't know if it carries over to the Metro though as the culture there may be different in the US. I can't imagine any real incidents happening though otherwise it would of been reported quite quickly in the storm of all this.

I guess he's too dumb to know that a transit system doesn't run at full capacity on weekends.

Another wonderful thing to beat over the heads of GOPers this next election cycle.

Hilariously, the stimulus package also included funding for the rail extension to Dulles Airport(and it's a sure bet a lot of the folks who flew in for this flew in there). Of course, McCain is looking to deprive it of funding.

It SUCKS. A few years back I went to the DC auto show, and there happened to be some protest going. The fattest vegan I have ever seen(she had "vegan" embroidered on her little purse) spilled her starbucks on my pants while juggling her signs. Ironically, there are signs all over the fucking place that say "no food or drink on the Metro."
