[SG-1] Does Teal'c have a rank in the Tauri?

[SG-1] Does Teal'c have a rank in the Tauri?
I just started watching SG-1 and I was kind of confused about whether or not Teal'c actually has a military rank. Colonel O'Neill and the others always just refer to him as Teal'c. Is he considered a civilian specialist like Daniel?
"Our people were meant to be living gods, warrior-poets who roamed the stars bringing civilization, not cowards and bullies who prey on the weak and kill each other for sport. I never imagined they'd prove themselves so inferior. I didn't betray our people – they betrayed themselves."

On paper? Probably, under the header of "cultural enter-age" or something.
In reality, I assume it would cause some confusion about the rank and even a debate whether he should be even within the squad. But that's TV script logic for you.

Teal'c has never actually been in charge of anything so I would guess no.
but he DOES appear to get paid, as evidenced by his attempt to get an apartment, which confuses me, because he's not a US citizen. maybe his land lord was taking cubits.

Or the government set up an identity for him, and was paying him in US currency.Themightytom wrote:but he DOES appear to get paid, as evidenced by his attempt to get an apartment, which confuses me, because he's not a US citizen. maybe his land lord was taking cubits.

According to the RPG, he's paid as a Master Sergeant, or something, but has no official rank. That's as close as you're likely to get, I expect.

It's likely he's paid as a GS employee. Probably a GS-6/7. Possibly up to 8/9 if they include BAH in their equivalency.NecronLord wrote:According to the RPG, he's paid as a Master Sergeant, or something, but has no official rank. That's as close as you're likely to get, I expect.

Tealc might not have an official rank, but he has practical experience. From what we have seen, he appears to be treated with a level of seniority by fellow SGC soldiers. He appears to have rank over Airmen, and has operated on a level field with other SG team leaders.

Did you mean to type 'entourage' when you meant 'attache' or 'envoy'? o_0Zixinus wrote:On paper? Probably, under the header of "cultural enter-age" or something.

Well, according to the source I just mentioned, his title is "Special Advisor to Stargate Command" and he ranks equivalent to a staff sergeant, and is paid accordingly.Beowulf wrote:It's likely he's paid as a GS employee. You keep using that word, but I don't think you know what it means.

I've never seen or heard of the Stargate RPG, but I do remember something somewhere referring to him as a Staff Sergeant. Although that may have just been online and they used that as a source. I can't remember the location or context of where I heard it from.NecronLord wrote:Well, according to the source I just mentioned, his title is "Special Advisor to Stargate Command" and he ranks equivalent to a staff sergeant, and is paid accordingly.

Re: [SG-1] Does Teal'c have a rank in the Tauri?
wasn't his pre-betrail rank a jaffa equilevant for a colonel or general (yeah I know it's a bit off-topic but still relevant).
granted jaffa aren't exactly know for smart tactics or strategies though.

He was first prime of Apophis. So basically the head general guy.

I think they jokingly called him a Technical Sergeant in the episode that first introduced Martin Loyd and Tanner (was that his name?). Daniel and Sam got caught by the aliens, who had a scan of Teal'c complete with symbiote, and asked who he was. They said he was a Tech Sergeant, and that his job was speech writer or somesuch.

Re: [SG-1] Does Teal'c have a rank in the Tauri?
Yes. I have always found it funny that they didn't pay him more. Not just because of his rank when he was still a loyal Jaffa, but also because of his knowledge about the Jaffa and the Goa'uld. The again, perhaps he did not have much use for money in any case.neoolong wrote:He was first prime of Apophis. So basically the head general guy.
Re: [SG-1] Does Teal'c have a rank in the Tauri?
He was living on base for most of the series, so it wasn't like he needed a lot of money, unless he did a lot of online shopping. His original intention probably wasn't to live on Earth after the war was over anyway. So Earth currency wouldn't do a whole lot of good in the long run.

Re: [SG-1] Does Teal'c have a rank in the Tauri?
Also...it's TEAL'C. I'm sure he wasn't asking for much, and might have turned down anything he considered to be a bribe for his knowledge. He's valuable to the SGC primarily as a front-line soldier and as a cultural liaison, but he's not doing the job of a general or an ambassador or something.
They largely tapped out his useful knowledge about the Goa'uld by his interrogation in the first regular episode. He simply didn't know anything about the basis of Goa'uld technology, and doesn't know that much about most individual System Lords.

This is the guy they want to use to win over "young people?" Are they completely daft? I'd rather vote for a pile of shit than a Jesus freak social regressive.
Here's hoping that his political career goes down in flames and, hopefully, a hilarious gay sex scandal. -Tanasinn

None the less he would have to be compensated for workingAnguirus wrote:Also...it's TEAL'C. I'm sure he wasn't asking for much, and might have turned down anything he considered to be a bribe for his knowledge.
It's possible that most of his pay was (of course with his approval) converted into arms and supplies for the Free Jaffa movement

^ I'm not saying he didn't get paid as a sergeant. I'm explaining why he wouldn't get paid as a general.
