Tell me about the Metabarons

Post by Bob the Gunslinger »

Seriously, what the hell are they? I remember someone on this board saying they were one of the high-end sci-fi races and that they blow up universes. Do I want to know more? Tell me about this book/series/whatever and whether or not it is worth reading. Keep in mind that I am less choosy than Stark and more choosy than Shroom.
"Gunslinger indeed. Quick draw, Bob. Quick draw." --Count Chocula

"Unquestionably, Dr. Who is MUCH lighter in tone than WH40K. But then, I could argue the entirety of WWII was much lighter in tone than WH40K." --Broomstick

"This is ridiculous. I look like the Games Workshop version of a Jedi Knight." --Harry Dresden, Changes

"Like...are we canonical?" --Aaron Dembski-Bowden to Dan Abnett

1. This should be in Sci-fi. [Yes, it should, but you should tell me rather than him --Lagmonster]

2. It's a very over the top science fiction comic series by Jodowsky (The original is in English, though much of the series and another series, "Incal" have been translated to English).

The series is nice, although very weird. Give it a try, but be warned, it gets weird and stupidly over the top (but in a good way). And it has a lot of nods to Dune.

Ah, The Saga of the Metabarons. Like Death says, it's a series by the extremely eccentric Alexandro Jodorowsky. It follows the lives and legacies of the Metabarons, the greatest warriors in the galaxy/universe. As far as Jodorowsky's comics go, The Metabarons is probably the best: it has much better art than the story it was spun off from, The Incal and it looks better than The Technopriests, too. Like all of Jodo's stuff, the writing is ... fucking bizarre at times. I prefer The Metabarons because its pretty serious storytelling is not marked by complete ridiculousness like rich dudes shooting guys who are commiting suicide by jumping into a big pit with flamethrowers. However, this serious, epic space opera science fantasy is interuppted by the inane antics of the last Metabaron's robot servants, who are gigantic dickheads.

Honestly, I'd recommend you check it out, if only so you can share the headtrip with me. Wear gloves, the ink is LSD.

Are these the same Metabarons that were in Heavy Metal (magazine)?

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
