"Primeval" Not Cancelled.

Post by Big Orange »

Very good news and it seemed like Primeval was too good cancel after all, although it has to resolve an awkward cliffhanger:

Primeval Not Extinct

Primeval has been saved from extinction, thanks to a groundbreaking co-production deal involving BBC America, ITV1 and UK cable channel Watch. 13 new episodes of the time traveling dino show are set to be made.

Originally ITV1 announced in June that the show had been cancelled. However, today the channel revealed that it had agreed to share the show UKTV channel Watch after a deal was agreed between Impossible Pictures and BBC Worldwide, which distributes the show internationally. Germany's Pro7 channel is also part of the deal.

ITV1 will premiere the fourth series of the show in early 2011. Watch - which already airs sci fi shows Doctor Who and Torchwood - will repeat it soon after and then premiere the fifth series later the same year, followed by ITV1.

Tim Haines, one of the show's creators, told Media Guardian: "I am thrilled that ITV has agreed to this new deal which will allow Impossible Pictures to produce another 13 episodes of Primeval. The confidence demonstrated in the programme's continued success here and abroad will help us bring more big-screen action and a whole host of new creatures roaring back into people's living rooms."

A film version is also still in development.

Wow, I didn't expect it to be renewed. But at least it means the clift hanger of an ending for season 3 isn't the end.

Well, I'm glad we get a resolution to the drab cliffhanger. Here's hoping the fourth series does not continue the ever plunging downward spiral of quality. Hopefully the story will get a bit more cohesion this time around. The third series was disjointed shite on a plate.

In total, there were more episodes in a stargate season then there have been episodes of Primeval, so i would say no.

This is good news. Primeval is not a bad series at all and it'd be a big shame if it were lose to the fate of cancellation like so many shows have been.

It is remarkable how Torchwood, an underdog to Primeval in its wobbly first season, has overtaken Primeval by year three.

I stopped watching the series when it stopped having what I really liked about it at first: intelligent characters acting intelligently under their circumstances, like for instance: not hesitating about using a guns to defend their lives.

Oh, and the whole "all ancient legends are true" bit also put me off a bit.

Not shooting is partially because the characters don't wan't to kill the fauna and wreck the timeline.

What the fuck are you blithering on about?
From episode one season one they deliberately used tranq darts so they didn't kill anything and did everything possible to transport the animal back to it's original timezone.
They only killed when there was no other option.
So I stare wistfully at the Lightning for a couple of minutes. Two missiles, sharply raked razor-thin wings, a huge, pregnant belly full of fuel, and the two screamingly powerful engines that once rammed it from a cold start to a thousand miles per hour in under a minute. Life would be so much easier if our adverseries could be dealt with by supersonic death on wings - but alas, Human resources aren't so easily defeated.

Yes, but here's the thing: when you're life is threatened now by an angry creature that is clearly hostile, leaving you with no other avenue of escape, would you care whether you die a painful death now or by fucking up the timeline a bit?

Yes, they use tranqs for a reason and I applaud them for it, it makes plenty of sense, but if I recall my third (or was it fourth? the one where they had a creature that was worshipped by ancient Egyptian) season, first episode memories serve me right, this was not the case. I may be wrong, because it was quite a while since I saw the episode, but that's what my memory served.

To be frank, Season 2's ending of laser cages was already a big warning sign that the writers were doing more and more things for the sake of getting the story trough.
