What's your favorite TARDIS interior(doctor who)?

Post by FaxModem1 »

Shamefully, I have to go with the 1996 movie version, it was probably the only good thing to come out of it. What's yours?

It would have been acceptable if not for the stained glass windows and dead leaves blowing around.

I'd have to say the early eighties walls with the early to mid seventies console. I like bright interior with the gleaming white walls and floors.

But there's never been a console I really loved. The old versions were too low-tech with their gauges and switches, and the later tiered one was too busy. The wooden one with the mirror was dumb. The Fox version was alright in some ways, but the retro look, while neat, just didn't seem right. The new one is hideous. I'd like to see something that looks sophisticated but alien, with an aesthetic similar to the original.

I liked the revival one. I dig the 60s-tech old ones, though; before they put little CRTs in it.

Well, I really liked the 1996 movie version, mainly because I'm sort of a stickler for the Victorian/Steampunk aesthetics. But I also sort of liked the Tom Baker Console room as well as the New Series one.

I liked the 70's to 80's versions the most. Of course this is when I first saw Doctor Who on PBS all those years ago, giving me a favorable impression of the show thanks to nostalgia! That's not to say they were bad, not by any stretch!

With some minor tinkering, like making it the console larger and getting rid of the random leaves ... the 1996 Movie version was probably the best. The roof display was a nice touch, especially since it contrasted so well against the victorian style of the rest of the room.
Coming second would be the late 80's console room, which generally looked a lot better than the previous versions.

The worst console room would, of course, be the current one.

For me, the 80s console room is the winner —it has the look of the product of a culture which long ago solved just about every technical problem to be solved and proceeded to pure stylistic design. The second-place prize goes to the secondary console room, the wood-paneled one.

A very good runner-up is the console room of the Rani's TARDIS from "The Mark Of The Rani". It just took the established TARDIS design philosophy in a slightly different direction and featured one of the best console designs seen in the series.

Going to have to vote for the earlier era. Nothing specifically; Baker run if I must. But what I loved was the crazy walls. What did the art department use, disposable plastic dinner plates??

Someone on the show did.

The Tom Baker 'Primary' console room usually had only one panel open, with all the controls needed for day to day operation.

I kind of the wooden one from Tom Baker's time myself.

I like the one with the console introduced in "The Five Doctors." I also liked The Master's black TARDIS control room.

I believe the reason the wood panelled control room was abandoned was that it became water damaged while in storage.

Eh. He changed to use that one on a whim, he changed back on a whim.

However, it's not hard to imagine that he might preffer larger consoles simply for a greater range of navigational and other controls.
