[Discussion] Rename Testing. Make A New Testing. Etc.

A failed experiment whereby board users were invited to advise the Senate, and instead attempted to replace the Senate.

SD-chan just too obvious?

I don't mind a place to jerk off every once in awhile, I go there myself when the need arises and I have a bottle of Jergens all warmed up... so long as it stays there.
Something about Libertarianism always bothered me. Then one day, I realized what it was:
Libertarian philosophy can be boiled down to the phrase, "Work Will Make You Free."

In Libertarianism, there is no Government, so the Bosses are free to exploit the Workers.
In Communism, there is no Government, so the Workers are free to exploit the Bosses.
So in Libertarianism, man exploits man, but in Communism, its the other way around!

You already have an Imperial Senate, a house of Commons and a Senate. Maybe call it the Cantina in keeping with the theme?

PM Yosemite Bear, Shroomy. But Hav's right, it's deader than a graveyard at midnight in there.
I've gotten better porn recommendations outside of the BotM. I've gotten better recommendations in Testing, actually. I wouldn't even bother.

Only tryhards seeking to establish how 'serious' or 'elite' they are by distancing themselves from the terrible forum that 'rewards' 'spam' and contains 'nothing of value' and where nobody gets any 'help'.

If having your thread spammed with 4chan-style shit and then auto-deleted is considered less annoying than the treatment you'd get on the main board, something has gone horribly wrong. Of course threads that are supposed to be a 'free association with memes and insults' are exempt from that concern.

Or it's a normal reaction to a board with standards; a lot of 'decent' threads just start with an OP that isn't sufficiently thought-out or considered likely to get instantly derailed.

Turns out when people start half-thoughts in a forum full of spam they don't get cross and angry when spam turns up? :)

None of the boards I've been on have the equivalent of Testing, although a few didn't need it because the entire board looked like Testing. In particular, various IT hardware boards I've been a member of had posting standards, and a 'chat' section, but the chat section wasn't full of spam and insults and serious threads were not started there.

Testing in its current form is a 'normal reaction', but it's a reaction to the specific board culture on SDN. I'm sure there are boards with a similar dynamic out there, but in my (admittedly limited) experience it is atypical, even amongst boards with reasonably strict posting standards.

Just so I am clear, do you think the 'standards' for the main board are fine or not?

I would agree that's it's probably a combination of the board 'culture' and the aggressive rules. I don't think anyone posts in testing to avoid rules, but to avoid the elements of culture the aggressive rules seem to encourage.

Of course I'm biased because to me the 'anti testing brigade' appears to be universally anal tyrhard morons and almost everyone on SDN I consider a real person posts in testing, Mike excepted.

We could even rename it "Quebec" in honour of its distinct society and insistence that the feds don't give it enough freedom.[/quote]

This is a good name, I wouldn't mind naming it Quebec, then again Testing is a more lax OT, almost like GBS with less rules.
