Starting to get the feeling that someone in the academy doesn't like Peter Jackson.

He's...

a) Not American.

b) Not "artsy" enough and hasn't made his film i) overly advertised for what it is, ii) so under advertised that no one knows what the fuck it was until it's mentioned as an Oscar nominee.

c) Not pushing for his pension just yet.

d) Has refused to do any sexual favours for the nomination committee.

e) FANTASY AND SCI-FI IZ BAD, MMKAY?!

Always a big downer right off the start. And going by last years awards, he's also not black. That was such a fucking farce. All it went to show was that if you bitch enough about discrimination you get given a fucking award out of fucking sympathy.

Hey, haven't you seen Bad Taste, Braindead and Meet the Feebles? You don't get any more arty than that in cinema!

I'll second that. Denzel Washington certainly did not deserve best actor for such a shitty, non-event movie that I forgot instantaneously.

Frankly, Sci-fi films, well GOOD ones, tend to have more of a message to them than other movies...mainly because they don't browbeat you with it and you need to seek it out.

IE: TTT, I noticed a running theme of war being Everyone's problem. and one that cannot be ignored.
ISARMA: Daikaiju Coordinator: Just Add Radiation
Justice League- Molly Hayes: Respect Hats or Freakin' Else!
Browncoat
Supernatural Taisen - "[This Story] is essentially "Wouldn't it be awesome if this happened?" Followed by explosions."

Reviewing movies is a lot like Paleontology: The Evidence is there...but no one seems to agree upon it.

"God! Are you so bored that you enjoy seeing us humans suffer?! Why can't you let this poor man live happily with his son! What kind of God are you, crushing us like ants?!" - Kyoami, Ran

No, he won for that piece of shit that was called Training Day.

If he'd won for Malcom X I wouldn't have any complaints.

But the fact that he bitched his way to an award repulsed me.

Malcolm X was a great movie.

But Training Day? I've forgotten that movie existed.

Let's compare, here.

On one hand, we have 'The Hours' or 'The Piano'. I've never heard of them. No one at my school has ever heard of them. In fact, very few people have ever heard of them. They are obscure little movies about very deep and moving subjects, full of boring reflection and moralizing.

On the other hand, we have 'The Tower Towers'. Everyone has heard of it. Everyone has seen it. I've seen it three times. It's an epic tale of battle, adventure, and good vs evil. There are a few people who didn't like it but the general consensus is that it is a kick-ass movie. It has generated and will continue to generate hundreds of millions of dollars of income.

Now, tell me, which one of these films should win?

If you picked option 'A', then you belong to the Academy. Allow me to puncture your lungs repeatedly with this icepick.
