Which Director 'does it' for you?

Ok people, I pledge my allegiance to The Great Bearded One of Directing, Sir Steven Spielberg, but the movie buff and wannabe director in me wants to know who you like. So look at the list, choose and feel free to tell me if I've missed someone off! Although I did have a few others to list but the poll was too long, so just post ur other entries!

I hear Terry's Brazil is out on DVD now. Think 1984 but with some touches of dark humour.

You forgot the Cohens & Sam Raimi

I voted for Hitchcock since he is one of the originators of modern movie technique...and most of his films havent been surpased yet, IMO...

Well, it's a bit unfair to have Hitchcock in since he is considered the master director.

My favourite Hitchcock classic is North by North-West, I love that film!

How the hell could I forget THE WACHOSKI (sp?) BROTHERS? Those ingenius bastards who made us awe struck at The Matrix and makes us all drool at the thought of Reloaded and Revolutions....

1) George Lucas didn't direct V or VI - you should all be ashamed of yourselves that I had to point that out first

2) Sam Raimi should definitely be up there.

3) As should Billy Wilder

4) And Paul Verhoven

5) Although Hithcock made some good films, his directoral style was more about 'what can I do?' than actually 'what looks good'. I'm going for Kubrick for The Clockwork Orange alone, but the Shining and 2001 are also better than most other directors could do.

Matrix was good but I'm emtrexely learly of the sequels. The Matrix ended so well and was so unique that sequels will have to be top notch not to bring down the original.

The Matrix was originally written as a trilogy but Warner Bros were cautious so they wanted to make the first one and see how well it did, then once it took off as it did they started up filming on 2 & 3. Therefore I doubt that they wont be as good!

I have the three disc Criterion set, and despite being non anamorphic, is one of my favourite DVDs.

According to his latest statement, he's not going to make 7,8 and 9 he's just going to make 3 and leave it. Then again he said he wasnt going to make 1,2 and 3 so you're guess is as good as mine!

I meant that to illustrate that you can concieve of something at the same time but it doesn't mean it'll be as good as the original.

Ahhhhh! However, the difference is that the Matrix 1,2 and 3 was written as a consecutive trilogy all at the same time, all storyboarded at the same time and all pitched to Warner Bros at the same time.
