He tried. He couldn't find a doctor who'd perform the operation. The article also suggests that mental illness might have been a contributing factor. If that is the case I hope the father gets the help he needs.Themightytom wrote:Couldn't he have just asked a hospital to perform the operation? Oh right, the son is too young to recieve a general anesthetic.
You know if the father tries cut his own shit off and it withers and turns black, thats as bad a sign as you can get superstition wise, he isn't even consistent with his religion.

The article did suggest that he had impaired mental abilities. Even the judge said that he was probably delusional. This is not a good combination for sound judgment.Themightytom wrote:You know if the father tries cut his own shit off and it withers and turns black, thats as bad a sign as you can get superstition wise, he isn't even consistent with his religion.

No child is too young to receive general anesthetic. He's too young to receive general anesthetic for unnecessary surgery, mainly because he can't give consent and it's not important enough to ask the parent to give consent for him as there is absolutely nothing unhealthy or life-threatening about having an intact foreskin.Themightytom wrote:Oh right, the son is too young to recieve a general anesthetic.

It's rather sad that cutting off a part of the body required for normal sexual functioning isn't considered serious harm, but not surprising, given that it's legal for a parent to elect for their child to have such surgery. Not to mention the general lack of knowledge of the biological function of an intact foreskin. And in her ruling issued on Wednesday, Judge Marion Allan found the man not guilty on charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, saying the man did not seriously harm the boy and the razor blade was not used as a weapon.

I wonder if this guy has ever worked a day in his life. I'd have considered $30 "expensive" when I was a child, but now I know I can make twice that doing a day's work at minimum wage- hell, I can spend that much at dinner and not feel a bleeding wound in my wallet.[R_H] wrote:And he was too cheap to even get the good clotting agent, after having asked doctors/rabbis to do the circumcision.
It's also possible that "$30" is a typo, and the Blood Stop actually costs $300 per bottle... or the guy's brain damage left him unable to tell the difference between the numbers 30, 300, or 3000.

What the hell kind of ruling is that? Not used as a weapon?! Hey I'll just stab someone in the eye, and when questioned I'll say I was just trying to dig out a small stone that got lodged in there right? No sir, didn't mean to use it as a weapon! How does that change the fact that the moron mutilated his own son's penis?
The very description of the event makes me wince.
This is the kind of ruling you'd expect from the dark greasy heart of the bible belt.

Brilliant. Someone tell Osama Bin Laden to try this defence as well.In court, the man's lawyer, Douglas Christie, argued the man's desire to fulfil his religious duty negated any criminal intent.

at 4 I had to get a hydrocele (basically an operation to repair the area right behind the penis), and I received general anesthetic for it.Themightytom wrote:

You know, I recently had an episode where I had two days of really shitty mood due to stress et all. I felt like a failure, that I constantly fuck up at work, that my job is a dead end, that I have no marketable skills and I'm just one mistake away from being fired on my ass, etc.
I now read this story and, as twisted as it sounds, take comfort in the knowledge that no matter what mistakes I make or already have made in life, at least I'm not dumb enough to try and circumcise my son at home with razor blades.
It's one thing about the OP guy, but Cairber's post indicates this may not, in fact, be an isolated ocurrence. Damn.
Am I a bad person for feeling this way?

It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn't feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.

A little bad, but understandable. Mind you, people can always find reasons to feel bad about themselves or envious of others. Back when I was working very high-stress jobs, I used to pass dumb-ass construction workers with no real stress at all on the way home and I'd think "it must be nice".PeZook wrote:You know, I recently had an episode where I had two days of really shitty mood due to stress et all. I still think that sometimes. There's a bit in the Rome HBO series (watch it if you haven't already, it's fantastic) where Pompey is debating with himself as to whether to leave Italy for Greece, as Caesar is bearing down on him. He looks at one of his slaves and pontificates about how wonderful it must be, to be a slave, to make no decisions and to have no responsibility.A little bad, but understandable. Mind you, people can always find reasons to feel bad about themselves or envious of others. For a second whilst watching I thought about my bruxism (I grind my teeth when I sleep, I have a splint in my mouth when I go to sleep - awkward when having *cough* spontaneous relations in bed? You betcha) and my headaches at work and the shit I take home from work in my head and thought - fuck yeah, that would be nice.

Hmm.... not sure if I currently fall under "dumb-ass construction worker" these days or not, but having experienced working in that area I can say that while their stresses are different than those of other professions they most certainly do exist.Darth Wong wrote:A little bad, but understandable. I dunno, when I drive by construction crews that take six months to redo a single on-ramp, and whenever I pass them there are two guys standing around for every one guy who's actually doing something, I have to imagine that they are not under a great deal of stress ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

I'm non-union. If I don't work I don't get paid. It's quite motivating.
