Anyone still play Dawn of War?
The original, not that Dawn of War II bullshit.
The last game coordination thread for it died ages ago and the sequel has come out since, but I decided on a whim to install Dark Crusade and the Dawn of War Expanded mod again, and I'm having a blast against the comp. Even with the improved AI mod that's packaged with DoWXP, though, it'll start to drag eventually with just the computer to play against, so does anyone still play who'd be interested in a few rounds online?

I play vanilla DC quite often after 5 EST on weekdays. AIM me, I'm invisible 99% of the time but very much there.

I'm up for DoW much of the time. I looked for this "Dawn of War Extended" you mentioned without any luck; right now I have vanilla of DoW through Soulstorm (and would be willing to play any of them).

You probably couldn't find it because it's "Expanded," not "Extended." Here is the thread for it on Relic News. The download links in the OP are dead, but the installation file may be found here. The site is in French; you want the link that says "Téléchargement pour les visiteurs (Vitesse limitée à 120 Ko/s)." The changelog in the OP doesn't quite match up with the changes in the version at that download; back when Riker was still actively working on it, the details of the mod would change rapidly as the team tweaked balance (I was on the beta test crew back then), so this isn't unusual. The mod plays a lot better balance-wise than vanilla, I think, and I like the AI better, not to mention the more codex-accurate units. (Space Marine veterans, Devastators, Prometheus pattern Land Raiders... it's great.)DesertFly wrote:I'm up for DoW much of the time. Even if you elect not to use the mod, anyone who plays should have the community map packs. I'll probably be up for a few games tomorrow afternoon.

Duh, expanded, right. (You'd think that having the correct title a few screens up would mean I could get it right )Rogue 9 wrote:You probably couldn't find it because it's "Expanded," not "Extended." Anyway, I found that site when I was searching for "Expanded", but the download link was dead. Downloading from the French one now.
One question, does the mod eat my Dark Crusade install, or will I be able to play it separately if I ever wanted to go back?

Dark Crusade and Soulstorm have a handy dandy mod manager, so you can switch between vanilla and any mods you have installed with a couple of clicks.DesertFly wrote: Duh, expanded, right. (You'd think that having the correct title a few screens up would mean I could get it right )

Re: Anyone still play Dawn of War?
Do you play the mod exclusively or do you dabble in vanilla as well? Vanilla is not exactly what I would call balanced, but a great number of mods do things I disagree with as well. Also if you don't have AIM then PMing me is fine also, just be aware I don't check them that much.

Re: Anyone still play Dawn of War?
I play vanilla too. If you don't want to give the mod a shot, then we can play vanilla; it's not a huge problem for me. Might throw me off my game a little to switch back and forth between the two (what do you mean I can't have a Leman Russ Vindicator to back up my deep striking Kasrkin?), but it's no big deal.

Re: Anyone still play Dawn of War?
Hey, lucky break. Just got out of some HoI2. I downloaded the mod but haven't installed or tried it out yet, if you are up for some vanilla for now I can play. I would prefer to look over the mod's gameplay changes before I played against a human in it, lest I seem horribly inept.

Or we could do a compstomp. Anyway, I'm going to go hang out on the server for awhile; handle's Rogue_9. See you there if you're still around.
