Someone proposed using demo to destroy the dam. The problem is that none of us have any real skills at demolition other than watching shit blow up, if even that. Furthermore, it is not unlikely that if we try infiltrating to blow the damn we'll get caught - do you want to try and set charges while Uruk-Hai hordes are charging at you, using crossbows, any artillery in Isengard and whatnot?
I'm not sure. We have a functioning biochem lab, so we'd likely have to have some power for things like centrifuges, autoclaves and whatnot; maybe solar cells (though those only have a 10-15 year lifespan).Durandal wrote:Does "fully-functional military base" include any sort of power plants? Our electronics aren't going to be running on hopes and dreams. We need some method of power generation.
Given that this base will be the only thing consuming the plant's power, I think it'd be feasible to dam up a river, if we have one near us, or use wind power if we're on a plain. Of course, we could also use any available timber for fuel.
What, are you going to have Galadriel give out some special gifts, like the Magazine of Limitless Ammunition?SirNitram wrote:If Helm's Deep is our fortress, our +5/+5 50 Caliburs of Infinite Ammo and our Everloaded Grenade Launchers(Teehee) will be in position, though I would say we need to camo those.. Sodium, maybe?Though from Highschool chem class I remeber goofing an expriment where I dropped a piece of potasium or was it magnesium into some water and it shattered the beaker with the water.

Fuck, if we can get some decent power supply and had the tools, we could make a laser or at least a HPMW.phongn wrote:What, are you going to have Galadriel give out some special gifts, like the Magazine of Limitless Ammunition?SirNitram wrote:If Helm's Deep is our fortress, our +5/+5 50 Caliburs of Infinite Ammo and our Everloaded Grenade Launchers(Teehee) will be in position, though I would say we need to camo those.. Mike already posted two people for this (both Army captains.) We can hash out our NCOs and other officers from the talent pool. They'll probably have to wear different hats as DIs/DSs for awhile as we get trained.Keevan_Colton wrote:1. I need to consult my copy of LOTR (see Appendix B), but Saruman has already been ensnared by Sauron at this time, IIRC.I would suggest an early approach to orthanc...if we arrive that early, then Saruman will not have yet fallen....he could be convinced through a demonstration of technology that he really doesnt want to oppose us, thus eliminating half the problems...then gathering together Gondor and Rohan as the main basis of forces.

We're obvoiusly talking about something completely else.
I was talking about helms deep, it's a deep valley surrounded by mountains, yes?
Well before they get there, set up charges at the entrance and when they're in, blow it, then lob in mustard gas galore in the sealed valley.

Hey, it says in the opening post, those two weapons are infinite ammo, in our perimeter. But the Magazine Of Limitless Ammo is a good gift to ask for. Write that down.phongn wrote:What, are you going to have Galadriel give out some special gifts, like the Magazine of Limitless Ammunition?SirNitram wrote:If Helm's Deep is our fortress, our +5/+5 50 Caliburs of Infinite Ammo and our Everloaded Grenade Launchers(Teehee) will be in position, though I would say we need to camo those.. But demolition is not neccesary, it can be done by barricading the entrance after they travel through.
Essentiially split in two, one at Helms Deep fortress and another hidden one to get in behind them to keep them pinned down while we gas them with mustard gas.

I'm thinking of something post-War, right now, though: we have the option of going back if we choose, right? Could we request a gateway from Primary Earth to Middle Earth?
Think of all of those untapped resources! We can balance the issues of taking care of the environment (because hell, Middle Earth is pretty damned clean) and exploiting whatever stuff they have. Assuming that Aragon becomes King over the Reunited Kingdom - damn, his GDP is going to skyrocket (once we introduce modern economics )

We need the team work thing though, we can't bicker and so forth otherwise we're fucked. We can't just accept that guns will win the day, because we have limited supplies. This is not a simple "use modern tech and stomp everything" since the forces of Sauron and Saruman outnumber is VASTLY.
We're through the looking glass here, people.

What do you mean? As in the movies the Orcs will march to Helms Deep, we'll also be there, I don't see how anyone excpects that, nor is this Saruman omniscient either, right?Admiral Valdemar wrote:How do you propose we fool them with even our numbers and Saruman not noticing? His Divine Shadow wrote:But demolition is not neccesary, it can be done by barricading the entrance after they travel through.

We have a year before the events of FOTR begin, we have some bona fide military instructors here, and every man has the motivation to survive so he can get home. Anyone who doesn't throw himself into the training and learn to work as part of a team would be a blithering idiot.Thunderfire wrote:Morale will be the biggest problem. We can use them as bait or target practice if that suits them instead, they'll soon get into shape.Darth Wong wrote:We have a year before the events of FOTR begin, we have some bona fide military instructors here, and every man has the motivation to survive so he can get home.
