Is ArmA II worth $25?

Post by Executor32 »

Steam's weekend deal right now is 50% off ArmA II, is it worth picking up for that price? The demo is pretty shit, but looking back at the threads around release time, it's apparently far more broken than the full game.

The full game has a lot of issues, but then again I've always spent way more time just making simple missions and playing those than in the campaign.

Really, $25 is a good price point for it. It's really an iteration on ArmA with a few more fixes and abilities (reload on the move!).

Only if you really love milsims and OP1 is too old for you. Arma 2 is essentially an upgrade of OP1.

The game has been patched heavily at this point, that isn’t a reason not to buy it especially at that low a price. The game play is fairly unforgiving in lethality but you can and special game modes pretty well almost let you do almost anything you could want in that engine.

I'll say, I noticed in the Armory you can choose to run around as a goat, with such challenges as escaping from poachers.

Too bad that those missions are broken: no matter how much you go or how far away, the rangers won't come.

I just followed the waypoint that appeared and completed the challenge just fine. The challenge description makes it sound like you just have to run around and not die for a while, when you actually have to go to that waypoint, where the rangers are sitting in a pickup.

People are already working on a mod to allow you to arm all the animals, and add some new ones like BEARS.

For $25 I was tempted, but nah. I'll wait till a collector's version of it comes out, by which time it'll be thoroughly patched.

Is anyone making a mod to improve the UI and HUD? As well as the health system, so you would be told where you are hurt and be able to stop bleeding by using a first aid kit?
