Thrawn vs. Spock
Thrawn is always shown to be THE master strategist. In the "Hand of Thrawn" duology, the NR constantly makes the statement that Thrawn knows what his oppenent will do before they know. If not for Vader's ruthlessness, Thrawn couldn't have been defeated.
Spock is also superintelligent when it comes to planning. He is often quoting odds and statistics in the midst of situations. Lest someone think that Spock is simply a talented actuary, his applications (especially in the movies, eg, The Undiscovered Country) are masterful.
So my question is, who would win in a battle of strategy, be it space combat, risk, or Age of Empires, Thrawn or Spock?

Re: Thrawn vs. Spock
Actually, Spock has demonstrated startling incompetence on many occasions. Looking for exhaust gases is hardly as innovative or brilliant as you seem to think, and in "The Arena", I must remind you that he continued to use his tricorder even when it was painfully obvious that the Gorns were targeting his tricorder emissions. Wayne Poe has a whole webpage about Spock's incompetence. And need we go over the Galileo 7, in which Spock believed that the use of warning shots would drive off a primitive attacker even if they did not cause a single casualty?xianseeker wrote:Thrawn is always shown to be THE master strategist. Thrawn massacres Spock. So my question is, who would win in a battle of strategy, be it space combat, risk, or Age of Empires, Thrawn or Spock?

Hey wouldn't these guy have to know the game mechanics first?
So how about we let these guys have an exhibition match to see what the games are capable of and what you have to do.
Still...Thrawn wins.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Thrawn'll own, big time. I mean, this is the guy who beat one or two dozen of the best of Palpatine's ships with just 6 patrol craft.

Thrawn.
Spock is good, but he is not the same level that Thrawn portrayed in military strategies.

Why do people keep trying to come up with Trek characters who could outwit Thrawn on the battlefield? Trek has never tried to create a pure military genius character except maybe Garth of Izar, and even if they did, the stupid writers would fuck it up and we'd have to accept that the Federation's greatest strategist is a stone cold moron because of suspension of disbelief.

I would like to see Thrawn vs. Kahn. Now there would be a good one on one fight.

Anyways, Thrawn would probably study Spock's ears and derive some brilliant plan from it. He's gotta knack for weird deductions like that.
Leader of the Secret Gnome Revolution
I can see it now.
Spock is going with some completely logical, predictable strategy, and Thrawn does something that leaves all the crew gaping in shock except Spock who just arches an eyebrow and says "Fascinating" right before he dies/gets defeated/whatever.

Please. Kolrami was asskicked by Data. And the Zakdorns are a bunch of frauds.

Oh, I completely agree that the Zakdorns are a joke at real strategy, but Kolrami was reputedly an outstanding Stratagema player. Not very adaptable though. Of course, Thrawn doesn't really have the option of maintaining a stalemate and just outlasting his opponent; he has to eat, sleep, and go to the bathroom, too.Grand Admiral Thrawn wrote: Please.
