Ninja posting I fear, but seriously if anyone intervened in the Brazilian Civil War it'd be nice to mention it in the world history thread.

If not, time to build defensive lines!

Edit: On the Brazilian civil war angle, I figure Argentina would intervene. I also tried intervening in Peru/Bolivia as well. Perhaps the failure of one intervention led to calls to not let the other "fall" to communism as well? Anyways we are working our ways towards a nice atmosphere of mutual distrust.

Hello everyone. If you'd accept one more player I claim the Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina and Parana provinces of Brazil as the Republica Federal di Cisplatina. Further to the 3 provinces, which Norseman has agreed to cede to my upstart nation I'll claim for the republic Paraguay, assuming it isn't already claimed by someone.

And if the Argentine player is willing to part with the Misiones and Corrientes provinces to make a solid connection between Paraguay and the eastern half of the republic...

I think I can put my final claims list up, seems the dispute over Costa Rica is settled and everything else looks good.

Home Territory:
Spain and Balearic Isles

Colonial Territory:
"Spanish" Morocco
Canary Islands
"Spanish" (Western) Sahara
"Spanish" (Equatorial) Guinea
Uruguay
Costa Rica (Portuguese Naval base established at Norade's port of choice)

Earlier I've claimed Paraguay as a satellite nation I'm afraid. My initial position is I'm quite unwilling to give land to a nation for which I have no idea what it's intentions are. Currently I am already a capitalist nation bordered entirely by socialist ones and I certainly don't want to give up land if it is going to another socialist state which could throw even more resources against me in the case of war.

Wasn't that Uruguay? Or rather couldn't you claim Uruguay as a satelite nation instead?

At any rate you shouldn't worry about Lascaris throwing more resources at you, if he is allowed to join I'll be starting to build the largest land fortifications I can to protect Sao Paulo from invasion. In fact if he is allowed to join I think we should all be afraid, very afraid ;)

EDIT: And you'd want to give him Paraguay, after all a point that he spends on Home Territories is a point he doesn't spend on other things, like the army.

At the moment Uruguay is claimed by Spain.

Norseman you also aren't making me more amenable to ceding land by saying I should be afraid of the man I'd be giving it to :P

Hey now, you wouldn't be the only one who'd be afraid, if you gave up Paraguay you would also have a buffer state between yourself and Communist Brazil. Depending on how things go who knows what could happen? I don't and that worries me enormously...

I don't want East Timor, for the same reason I didn't claim land in Australia, it's simply too far away for me to cover without having an entire fleet too far away to be of any use to my homeland. I only claimed land in Africa and South America as they're close to all on my ports and places I could have a naval base.

So East Timor is open.

Scorchus? What is your alt-history to explain how not only that large, elongated chunk of Central Africa remained independent, still lost its Red Sea coast to Egypt and much of the Cameroon coast to Germany, and yet has a colony in Australia?

If you truly, truly want a colony, well....

We're all running out of colonial territory, particularly with a chunk of colonial territory historically claimed as HT (Shinn, for instance, as well as Shep, Lonestar, Siege, Setzer...). Someone gave me the suggestion, something I'd considered in the early development phase, that since we're more a fantasy world than ahistorical we could very well add islands and colonies to the map. A sizable island southwest of the Bay of Guinea, for instance, and/or additional larger islands and archipelagos in Northern and Southern Pacific waters.

In light of my colonies not really materializing due to waiting for confirmation that they were open before putting in an official claim I have to support adding more land to the map just so I can have a functional nation.

Spain manages to make due with far less population and power than you do. In fact, were I the Spanish player, I would be very afraid of you.

True, however I had a goal and the only thing preventing me from accomplishing it was being courteous and not claiming lands without confirmation they were open. I feel that I've lost out on land that I should have had, but claiming it now will hurt they player that took it as he'll have no Ocean boarder.

I'm not so sure about adding more land to the map. Wouldn't it make more sense for those people who do not have the number of colonies they'd like to go out and conquer somebody else's ? That's sort of what people did historically, after all...

What about nations where it makes no sense to have lost so many colonies? I was already asked to give up Angola to another player, but I feel like I'm being cut out of Africa when I was hoping to be somewhat of a colonial power in the region still.

That is a fair point.

But honestly, you do not want me to get into whether it makes sense for a nation to hold that territory it has or does not have. *Looks at Poland*

I mean, we have a Byzantine Empire, A Sultanate and several south american nations...and I thought I was kinda winging it with the whole Hungarian situation.

Yeah, if we had all gone for what we could have had then there would be nobody in Africa but the big few, at the same time it makes it hard to project as a colonial power when you lose a territory that you didn't want to give up. Oh well, not like thee is much his nation can do if I decide I want it back in game. :)

Heh. That would be nice if Austria did not want to join with Germany after Versailles (and I fully acknowledged I was winging it). But honestly, if you want to go into a "my AH is more serious than yours" context, you got the wrong guy here.

I was using it as an example.
