[Discussion] Archiving SWvST, PSW, PST

Why? An all-ecompasing SF forum is better, not worse.

If someone wants to post their own universe in it, and people have in the past, they could put it in SF.

This is what the forum list will look like:

I'm with fgalkin on this layout (with History on the front page), as stated previously. "vs" debates are a dying sector anyway; it's better to simply have people discuss sci-fi in general, and if any "vs" debates come up, they just appear in the same place.

Just to complicate matters--

Maybe start with an "All Science Fiction" section which further breaks down thusly:

Versus Threads (SWvST; & all others-- Bab5 vs. Galactica, whatever)
Pure Discussion (as it says-- discuss them on their own merits)

Maybe a section for obscure series or anything involving original content-- "Babylon 5 versus my own creation: the Black Nebula Imperium", etc(?).

If we wanted ot do that we could keep itjust "Sci fi Vs" and "Sci fi" technical/discussion". The first thread can be the vs thread for everything. Technical could be where "analyiss" threads like the stuff I do go, or where people ask various questions about sci fi universes or discuss various aspects (technical or otherwise)

My suggestion is to rename OSF to simply "Science Fiction" and to lock and archive the three mentioned forums either as subforums where new users can get information from them as needed.

I see no reason to lock them, there's not a lot of activity, but there is activity (SWvST is the least active, the others continue to get new posts at a slow but steady rate).

Making SWvST, PSW, and PST into sub-forums of a Science Fiction forum, on the other hand, seems perfectly reasonable.

Now that I think about it, though, we might just rename the SWvST forum to a "Versus Debate" forum so all the nBSG and SGU fans have an appropriate place to throw ships and troops at each other.

Don't agree with making SWvST a general Sci-Fi debate forum. For traditional, historical reasons, I think it ought to stay as it is. Also, versus debates don't pop up often enough in the present OSF to merit splitting them all off into a dedicated SF debate forum/subforum.

We kept SW VS ST(As a subforum) for the simple reason

It was the board's first and almost only forum way back in the day. It has a crap-ton of posts and it's dead. So we are stuffing it and putting it up on the mantle for all to admire.

This board was an offshoot of alt.startrek.vs.starwars. The STvSW forum should remain intact as-is, as a subforum under a general Sci-Fi forum. As far as I'm concerned, any VS. threads can go in there.
