Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
They gonna need a better chain of command than this ,or this collection of fuckups wont make it another half dozen jumps
One of the few good moments was Rush bitchslapping Eli --- about fucking time someone told him to smarten up and stop acting like a 8 year old, this shit is not a movie. And poor Rush; his posture at the end there when they came back thru the gate said it all ".... we are so fucked....."
Not a good one, no where near as good as last week, although may set stuff up for later.
And Scott is really starting to annoy with his hump everything that moves bullshit
"Of course, what would really happen is that in Game 7, with the Red Sox winning 20-0 in the 9th inning, with two outs and two strikes on the last Cubs batter, a previously unseen meteor would strike the earth, instantly and forever wiping out all life on the planet, and forever denying the Red Sox a World Series victory..."

I feel sorry for 'Lt. Nipples'.
Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
I'm liking SGU more and more with each episode and this didn't disappoint. I also liked the tie-in to SGA (so the Lost Tribe's battle armor were modified Ancient environmental suits) and the spiritual throwback to "Prodigy" in encountering the Dust Devils.

Okay seriously, it's the same fucking girl.
These criticisms of Scotts behaviour ultimately seem extremely shallow to me.
If I were a) single and b) had the opportunity to get with the two hottest chicks in my immediate vicinity (one before I'd even met the other) within a few days of each other damn right i'd do it.

One thing Scott mentioned sticks with me -- the bit about how Young has been basically trying to get himself killed (or at least put himself in very high-risk situations). I sure hope not, because they really need him

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
I feel that this episode harkens back, at least in spirit, to the early days of SG-1, when the team would often come come into contact with alien races not bent on total destruction of all mankind, and the difficulties between them and the team were more misunderstandings than anything else. For those looking for the more classic feel with the aliens, this should be a good sign.
I like how the show is making an effort not to find every forested planet it can find to help the Destiny crew. I know the producers said they would make that effort, and it really shows. Most of the worlds they've found thus far just aren't suitable for human life, which tracks far more realistic I feel than what we got with SG-1 and SGA.
The only question I have is why the ship ahead of the Destiny is even seeding basically non-habitable planets with stargates. Most planets back in the Milky Way were seeded because they were habitable (with forests), and those that weren't generally were that way because of some catastrophe between when the Ancients seeded them, and when SG-1 went to explore them. The ship ahead of the Destiny must have far looser rules on what planets it seeds.
I also like how they brought back the dust devil aliens, and proving that Scott's god had absolutely nothing to do with the help he got from the planet. For those keeping score on BSG copies, this was a departure from that formula.
The more I watch, the more I like Young as a leader and officer. I don't much care for his relationship with his woman back home, but other than that he seems a very solid CO, in relation to the other characters in the show. He's usually calm and composed, and even when Rush is being a total dick, he tries not to fly off the handle with him or anyone else. But he still makes time to call out stupidity when he sees it. I'd say he's developed into my favorite character thus far.
I rated this episode a 3 this week, instead of the usual 4. The general feel of the show is still in 4 territory, but this episode wasn't as good as last week. I basically agree with Burak's opinion of Scott's behavior, and I can't understand why Lt. Nipples isn't more pissed that Scott's banging the younger senator's daughter instead of her. And the relationship between Scott and Chloe just seemed to come out of nowhere last week. Rather than a casual fling, done in the heat of impending doom, they're treating it like a solid relationship that has had time to mature and develop, and I just don't see it.

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
Lt James (AKA Nipples) didn't seem to have a problem with it when he was banging her on duty in Air, in fact she told him to ignore his radio iirc.Lt Austin (aka Nipples) : " is there some reason your radio is supposed to be off? "
Obviously he's learnt he's more likely to get his end away if the radio just doesn't go off.
Which is what you are supposed to think you idiot, saying I'm tired of it and I hope it stops is completely missing the point of WHY it is happening. The characters in this show are NOT super heroes and will react in different ways to old stargate characters. The show is a drama, but you can't create drama out of nothing. It needs a cause. If someone wasn't doing his/her best to get laid in every quiet moment I would have been fucking surprised.I dont give a fuck if he screws until his dick falls off, DO IT WHEN YOU ARE NOT ON FUCKING DUTY
They are stuck on an alien ship, not on the Pacific fucking Princess
More importantly, he won't get away with his behaviour, there will be backlash they are just building up to it slowly.

She's obviously rational enough not to take it out on Chloe or on Scott while Chloe is there, after all chloe has no way of knowing about the previous between Scott & James.
She obviously has genuine feelings for scott, so that has to bubble over eventually.

She has legitimate grievances to voice. Even if you wanted to call her rational, then the rational thing to do would be to approach Chloe and nicely ask her to back the fuck off, rather than go out of her way to give her information about Scott. She didn't have to go to Chloe and tell her that her boy-toy was in trouble. She's actually enabling the relationship to continue (who was there to hold Scott's hand when he came back through the gate?).Zac Naloen wrote:She's obviously rational enough not to take it out on Chloe or on Scott while Chloe is there, after all chloe has no way of knowing about the previous between Scott & James.

If they explain that she was just into Scott for the fling at the time, then that's one thing. I'd much more understand why she doesn't really give two shits about what Chloe does. But they need to make that clear, if that's the case. If James or whatever has actual feelings for Scott, then I don't see why she's enabling Chloe.

Could it be that James is just that much more professional, she is after all in the military and fraternisation is against the rules. Lt. Scott obviously has trouble controlling his libido and likes to ignore that particular rule.
Whilst that is possible, she did have tears in her eyes when she went to see Chloe. Maybe rational was the wrong word, Mature is probably more accurate. She is capable of accepting that Scott has moved on to his next piece of tail, and isn't going to let it affect her (at least not openly, for now)If they explain that she was just into Scott for the fling at the time, then that's one thing. Another thing I'd liked was that things finally came to a head with Spencer's theft of the rations back in the pilot. We knew someone was eventually going to discover the theft and it his own hoarding of water didn't help his case. I understand his desire to get the hell off of Destiny, but he's not helping their situation. The fact he was popping pills in "Light" makes me more worried about his stability than Greer's frame of mind. Either he's gonna snap or he'll certainly be the ringleader of the likely mutiny things seem to be building towards.

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
I mentioned in another thread that I think that the Stasiak "Psycho" character has more in common with Spencer than with Greer.
Greer has that attitude of someone who if he wasn't in the military would probably be in jail, but he seems more at peace with himself than you would expect than someone with the nickname "psycho". Particularly with his meditation in the face of death amd the "you don't trust me?" moment between TJ and Greer in this one, his attitude went from edgy anticipation to military cool in seconds.
Spencer on the other hand, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
This show just keeps getting better and better.
It wasn't a perfect episode, mostly because the scenes on the ice planet felt formulaic. The rest of it though, the clumsy attempts to deal with the alien and the tensions on board, that was quality stuff. I also love the visuals and music on this show, and that's coming from someone who bashed the trailer for being "too nBSG". It isn't, it's found its style and sticking with it.

Am I the only one who read Lt. James as very passive aggressive towards Chloe? Also, when did Scott have sex with James in this episode? I saw him making out with Chloe (perhaps it was TV clothed sex, the two tend to look the same)

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
This was the first episode of the series I really liked. The plot with the ice mining was alright, but it was the bit with them trying to figure out how to deal with the alien dust swarm that really made it feel like stargate.
And this is why you don't watch anything produced by Ronald D. Moore after he had his brain surgically removed and replaced with a bag of elephant semen.-Gramzamber, on why Caprica sucks

Better than the last one. Still rather predictable, but the characters weren't actively annoying. This would be a mediocre episode of SG-1, so I give it a 3.

Arguably better than most episodes in SG-1's first season though.
Stargate has a habit of really hitting it's stride in season 2 & 3. Atlantis was the same for me.

Those spacesuits almost look like the suits from the last season of SG1 Atlantis when those Asgard off shots attacked.

Production-wise, yeah. But in-universe, as I speculated earlier, it seems to indicate that the Lost Tribe fashioned battle armor from spare Lantean environmental suits.Zac Naloen wrote:dragon wrote:Those spacesuits almost look like the suits from the last season of SG1 Atlantis when those Asgard off shots attacked.

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
I gave it a 3. It wasn't awful, but it was too similar to the "we need to get some calcium carbonate" plot in tenor for me to really feel they were doing something different, and the one moment of joy I had was when nipples dropped in on the daughter and the idiot soldier boy. I really have no use for either of those characters, so I'm definitely hoping for some backlash. I'm not going to whine about his or her priorities here, since no "I feel closer to you than anyone ever before" was spoken, but he should have had his radio on--didn't he get that morning's briefing and know to expect they'd be going out? I presume he just lost track of time, which I find acceptable, and that he was trying to cram in some ladytime seems reasonable. I still hate both of them, but aside for me feeling that this is a waste of my viewing time, I didn't have anything else to whine about. At least Eli seems to have moved on, so we won't have to suffer through that again. No romance for Eli, ever.
The colonel still seems pretty dimwitted to me, so I'm not impressed with him yet, nor am I particularly enamored with his method of brainstorming... it made me think he was just going to sit there until the time ran out, if Act Of Plot hadn't freed soldier boy. He's rather dull, but I still have nothing against him. I like him as a main character more than the straight man, and I hope as the show matures they give him more active, vocal roles. He's a good actor, but his character's just waaaay too stiff recently--limp included.
I still like the G-man (I can never remember how to spell Grier's name) because he's active but knows how to shelve the ego. Good team player! Definitely like his synergy with the colonel. The doctor is still mostly useless, but no whines about her not supposed to be there, which is fun to see. Eli is still Eli, and Rush finally gave him some shit for acting like he's not part of this group. Chloe is entirely worthless, Eli has just been functionally worthless because he's too big into the Kinos. At least he made the hover board. Who didn't see that coming?
So overall... not feeling this series yet. I really liked nBSG but I'm having a hard time with the three kids on the ship. The whole romantic thing is really (honestly, not making this up) ruining it for me, but in great part because I hate their two characters. The only thing that would be WORSE (and this would be way worse) would be soldier boy/nipples and chloe/eli as a pair of romances. I'd just quit watching now.

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
It's good enough so far. I'm not sure it'll have legs for the multi-season runs of it's predecessors... but, both of them also went on about three seasons longer than they should have.
So far, it's been fixing various issues as they come up... So, they've fixed the Air, Power, and Water all somewhat... Next up is food, I'd imagine. Which, with as much as they're leaning toward Hard Sci-Fi (least as far as they really can in a soft universe...) I wonder if they're going to play up the possible toxicity of alien biology... or if they'll end up finding some Ancient Hydro/Aeroponics garden on the ship... (Though, I doubt they have many seeds with them, if any viable ones at all.)
The episode itself... well, I'm with the consensus so far. Middle of the road. I knew it wasn't likely to happen, but I'd kinda hoped that he -would- die in that pit... or the hissing would stop just short of entering the gate...
I'm also highly amused that the bugs, despite having been from a desert environment, didn't die instantly after breaking out of the can on the snowball. (Not to mention the atmospheric chemistry differences...) But eh... That's over analyzing...

Re: SGU 106: Water (Spoilers)
Yet another 3 from me.
The current run of episodes have just been consistantly fixed and generic in their approach.
Problem Air - Solved
Problem Power - Solved
Problem Water - Solved
I'm guessing food is going to be coming up next given this series trend towards 'resource' management. I find it rather boring but I do like the approach for its ingenuity in setting up the basic supply of resources inbetween introducing the series.
The main thing I found interesting was the sneak peak at Destiny's turrets. Not sure if it was intended but one of the external shots definetly showed a multi barrel turret so I suspect we will be in for a treat with new Ancient weapons. I'm guessing some form of energy gun so as to negate the need for 'ammo' manufacture issues like railguns and drones.
The character interaction continues to unintrest me. It is far too much a mix between nBSG and Lost for my taste. The episode synopsis was completely obvious from the the start complete with standard cliche alien and man getting trapped situation.
The Colonel guy seems rather weak as a leader after getting this far in the series. I also noticed the end indicated they have some sort of rota on using those Stones to contact Earth which I found a bit curious. I would have thought stone usage would be limited heavily since it only further indicates the possibility for specialists to be brought in.
