Here is the final trailer. It is 3.5 minutes in length.

Saw the 3.5 minute trailer. Its quite funny when you consider dumbass boy's most convenient strategy of orbital bombardment of mining sites in the hopes of scaring the natives away turns out to be the same as his original of orbital bombardment of the natives. Why? Because the new trailer just mentions where the biggest deposit of technobabble mineral the humans want is situated right at the Na'Vi's village. Way to go genius.

There's a little making-of video on youtube, here. It's got a good number of creatures we haven't seen in the trailers so far, several environments, plus a few shots of the human mothership.

The mothership looks alright and i do like the enviroment and critters of Pandora's rainforest.

I got a question. According to the wiki Sam Worthingtons character was paralysed from waist down. He was offered the chance to walk again by becoming an avatar. Now if they can transfer human minds into alien bodies why cant they fix a guys legs ? Or is it implied they can but being just an ordinary soldier the character can not afford the medical costs himself ?
I have to tell you something everything I wrote above is a lie.

In the trailer the General (or whatever the human commander is) says to Sam Worthingtons character that he wil get his legs back if he completes the mission.

So perhaps it's just a cost problem.

The idea of Savages versus gunships is in fact raised in this trailer (I guess they've been seeing the criticisms?) and addressed. I'm satisfied enough that this film may not be insulting to my intelligence for now, I'll be going to see it.

Yes, I'm sure that the makers of the film saw some criticisms on web forums and decided to go back and get all the voice actors to re-record lines and animated entirely new scenes to juxtapose into the script which had already been voiced and animated. It couldn't be that people were hyperventilating about a teaser which didn't have enough time to present detail which had been present all along.

I was suggesting it was put in to the trailer to calm the criticisms, not that they edited the film in anyway.

Just thought I'd update the thread with a 3-minute video on the human hardware in the movie. Lots of shooting as you'd expect. When concept art of the human AMP-suit turned up a few months back, I wasn't too impressed, but seeing them stomp around and watching the pilots moving around inside is a different matter.

Also, an interview with James Cameron:
PLAYBOY: How much did you get into calibrating your movie heroine’s hotness?
CAMERON: Right from the beginning I said, “She’s got to have tits,” even though that makes no sense because her race, the Na’vi, aren’t placental mammals
PLAYBOY: So you’re okay with arousing PG-13 chubbies?
CAMERON: If such a thing should happen—and I’m not saying it will—that would be fine.

I think it looks rather good and it is a sci fi version of any half a dozen movies like Lawrence of Arabia to Dances with Wolves, so all the hub-bub over nuking them from orbit is silly.
They say, "the tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of tyrants and patriots." I suppose it never occurred to them that they are the tyrants, not the patriots. Those weapons are not being used to fight some kind of tyranny; they are bringing them to an event where people are getting together to talk. -Mike Wong

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

xbox live has a 5 minute odd preview scene from the movie.

Acting is decent, writing isn't bad... effects look fantastic in full motion.

Still seeing nothing to stop me from seeing this at the cinema. Looks like a decent movie.

Damn That bucket wheel excavator is fucking huge.

In General it looks like we have some cool hardware. Although i say that the Machine Gun Nest with sandbags on the back of that Dragon thing is pretty silly idea.

I'm unimpressed so far--yeah, fancy effects, blah blah. It's just meant to look realistic though, which is a pure hardware problem--we can make uncanny valley humans and mocap their movements, and do the same things with extremely humanoid aliens, so this isn't a real accomplishment. Neither is animating slow-moving airships, missiles, and other mechanical things that don't need to express emotion. It's pretty cool, but it's unimpressive. I may see it... maybe. I'll want to see reviews. At the moment I'm not planning on seeing it and am not really interested in watching it on DVD either. It's pretty but it just looks dumb.

Even if the human technology is not fightable head-on they mentioned "guerrilla warfare" and maybe the human-turned-furry is going to teach them how to fight back or something. I also much hate Cameron's stupid idea of this chick as this sexy thing to arouse the audience, when I find her really gross looking, as well as the others. Humanoid enough to be judged by humanoid standards, but by those standards she's an unsexy gross mutant that needs to be cleansed with purging flame. I know some people will feel differently and that's fine, but I could eeeeaaasily suggest some ways to make her less vomit-inducing but at the moment I really hate the look of the filthy xenos, and maybe that's making me really unsympathetic to them. For some reason I really think they're gross, and I know from the way it's shot and lit and the way they ride dinosaurs that I'm supposed to really feel a strong attraction to them--but because I know that's forced, and because I certainly do not feel that, I just resent the characterization. They've turned the blue furries into an entire species of Westlies.

As for the plot, I find the whole thing tired and absurd, and you just know there's going to be a climatic final battle where they take down the general because he's the big evil bad man and then learn to live in peace. Meh. If maybe the visuals were a different kind of ultraflashy thing, the kind I want to watch, maybe I'd go just for that then--but so far all I'm seeing are visuals I'm not terribly interested in and the rest is flat. So it's still a "skip" for me.

I think the expressions on their humans are a whole order of magnitude above the Uncanny Valley shit seen in Christmas Carol and Christmas Train or whatever it was. I mean, when you see Michelle Rodriguez in the dropship she looks like she's about to say shit like "in the pipe, five by five" or tell them that they're in for some chop. It's almost photorealistic, and is damn good CGI. :D

I'm pretty sure that marsupials can have 'tits' as well. I hope Cameron havn't made the Na'vi too human. I want aliens damn it, not humans in blue.

Marsupials do have nipples, but the majority, if not of the species thus known have them within their pouch and infants are weaned by the time they leave the pouch permanently. Similarly, monotremes produce milk from areas of skin containing milk glands.

Of course, since we don't actually see any nipples, and her "breasts" aren't too prominent, we can presume that they are simply a consequence of the natural body shape/curves of the Na'vi, like their hips and waist, and safely ignore Cameron's interview for the sake of biological plausibility. :P

EDIT: Oh, alternatively, though not likely, when Cameron says "not placental mammals" he could mean some invented type of mammal which still nurses through breasts rather than through pouches or milk patches, yet somehow isn't a placental type of mammal.

What stops them from nursing with their bleeding breastbags after laying eggs and hatching babies?

That's what monotremes do, but they lack breasts, or even nipples. I suppose we could say that the Na'vi are breast-sporting monotremes, but I prefer the "Coincidence!" theory, not least because I came up with it. :P

Are you sure it's not actually live-action film? Most of the human shots where they're not in a helmet are actually just them greenscreened into the shot, not a CGI face. What time on the trailer was it? I suspect it's actually her, not a CGI duplicate.

What exactly IS their method of CGI-ing? A lot of those CGI-faces, even from that rough weatherbeaten-looking officer, look way better than that Christmas Carol Express shit.
