Incorrect. Men acting directly under Columbus would murder pregnant native women, cut their bellies open, rip their unborn babies out, and crush their skulls while the others watched, whenever the natives were not obedient enough. He was so brutal that he was actually recalled by his own government, and we know how brutal they were.

Yes, but the term "mass murdering asshole" should be reserved for people who deserve it more, i.e Hitler.
Are you seriously suggesting that even though someone fits the definition of a mass murderer, the term "mass murdering asshole" is excessive? What kind of mass murderer is NOT an asshole?

Newton, Einstein or Hawking day would be cool.
What about a day to celebrate Nikola Tesla, the genius, visionary, saint, friend-to-children and hero of the 20th century who pioneered AC electricity??
I was gonna mention him too but forgot, many people still think he was a screwball hence why most mad scientists in media are portrayed much like Tesla worked.
I don't think that Tesla worked in a way that worse than his nemesis, Thomas Alva Edison.

Makes you wonder if somewhere there's a fundie campaign to change the names of the days of the week. All I can think of is Mosesday for Monday.

Do you have a source where you got that from (I mean the murder of pregnant women bit).

Have a very nice day.

Just a thought, this thread is supposidly about great scientist and giving them recognition. Why the hell are we debating whether or not Columbus was a mass murdering asshole or not? How about someone make a new thread with a poll asking whether or not we should celebrate Columbus Day anymore.
The most basic assumption about the world is that it does not contradict itself.
