Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
Steve, Stas,
Maybe what wpould work best is this:
Wheb you "purchase" an Armored Brigade you get 200 tanks (various types)
In turn you can distribute them however you want based on your nation's individual nomenclature.
Then maybe up the Armored Brigade initial limits a bit. If Stas could purchase 5 Brigades this would give him the 1000 tanks but they can be assigned as needed.
Going forward this would both establish a minimum "order" size (200 tanks being probably around the break even point for a manufacturer) and allow for folks either to keeps the tanks concentrated (uber Armored spearhead of death) or dispersed (Mobile/Mechanized warfare FTW) as they see fit.
The same could then be applied to arty.

Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
Very nice.
EDIT:
Also, I've got a few questions here and there as I flesh out my Army. First off, has the number of tanks been set at 150 per Armored Brigade? Or are we going with 200 per Brigade?
Secondly, should Combat Engineer/Pioneer/Sapper Brigades be counted? Or are they considered support units and left uncounted? I'm thinking they'd count as support but I know some were trained as frontline riflemen and such so I'm interested in hearing opinions on the subject or a ruling.
Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
Go ahead and count them, but I'll presume people have at least rudimentary forces of such even if they're not listed.
As for tanks, 150 tank brigade is what I'm going with. Infantry divisions at Tech 3 and above can also tanks meant for infantry support. I believe Stas has his at 20 tanks per division, so we can stick with that for now. As things development I may add rules to buy armored battalions for specialized support at division level, but such will only happen with testing at Army Tech 4 level.

Alright, I've got them in Divisions attached to Armies as is.Steve wrote:Go ahead and count them, but I'll presume people have at least rudimentary forces of such even if they're not listed.
I had my one Armored Brigade numbering 150, so I won't need to change that there. As for these Infantry Support tanks, what are the conditions for those? Is it dictated by Ind points like full Armored Brigades? Or are they simply Armored Brigades that one can break down to Battalion-sized units to attach to Infantry Divisions?Steve wrote:As for tanks, 150 tank brigade is what I'm going with. Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
I'm still contemplating the rules for that. Army Tech 4 should give more than Army Tech 3 honestly. But I want to spare people who don't want to the need to count tanks exactly.

I have dedicated Combat Engineer brigades, largely because they will fulfill many many frontline duties, such as laying mines, laying fortifications, defence positions, bridging etc. etc.
Fortifications still have their uses, even if they aren't brick and mortar.

Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
How about this? Army Tech 3 can have one in three infantry divisions possessing 20 infantry support tanks. Army Tech 4 can have one in two (almost thought of two in three, that might be excessive though). Only one quarter of one's tanks can be "heavy" tanks.

And what of attaching tank battalions at tech 4? Also I pressume the 20 per every 2 divisions is the starting force? How we build more?Steve wrote:How about this? My territory ends quite a bit short of Ayan. Something like 200 miles short. As such, there's no reason for Manchurian troops to be shot at near there, and therefore, it must be Soviet. *shrug*

I did not expect Afghanistan to end up involved in a war so soon. They're not actually in there yet, but with the offer of military support Al-Hawari made to Bakunin, right as tensions peak... Damnation. A mass-crossing of the inland sea in fishing boats may be necessary!

You don't get free reign to have Stas' troops, politicians, or other state actors play like utter morons unless he or Steve gives you permission to do so.
Otherwise I could just start writing shit about stupid Manchurians killing more of themselves in training than they recruit. We both know that would be stupid and factually incorrect, now, don't we?

Well sorry Beowulf, I'm just presuming border provocations. Yeah, it may be 300 km away. Ayan is just designating general territory, for a lack of larger city in vinicity.Beowulf wrote:My territory ends quite a bit short of Ayan
You chose to be a dick and now I'm dead certain I'll go to war and study every fucking hill in those maps.
Like I said, it's just designating a general area, and if you have a better idea which city is closer to the border in the very North-East, I'm all ears. Russia is big; it's not my fault Manchuria is so fucking small. Now, where was I? Ah, "border provocations". Let's resume.Beowulf wrote:It's not my fault that Stas either can't read a map, or assumes I can't
It was only natural for Kingdoms not to recognize the USSR; IRL, the USSR was first recognized by a pariah state (WWI loser Germany), then by everyone else. The USSR wasn't accepted in the League of Nations until 1933. What gives? Well sorry; I was mistaken - sure, the USSR was recognized by a monarchist nation that shoots communists. I'm just being stupid all right.Beowulf wrote:And Stas has been insisting on developing exactly what and what not I've done since the Russian Revolution entirely by himself
I said at game start that the USSR will be working towards international recognition and starting much like IRL, being internationally unrecognized except between socialist nations. You had no objections, or? Having them now or what?

The obvious solution would have been something like: "~200 miles SW of Ayan, Manchurian Border"
Russia is big, but vicinity implies something closer than 200 miles away. That's a bit over half the distance from Richmond to DC, for example, which was an area heavily fought over during the civil war. It's something like 1/4 of the length of my border with you away.

Now that Stas has posted as to his intention, I am retconning Beo's little addition to his last post.
That said, Stas, given you do apparently have recognition from Germany in this game you should, I think, have asked everyone if they'd have recognized the Soviet Union or not, even if you presumed the answer as mostly no and wanted to play that way in the game.

Ok, here's the deal: Manchuria operates under Chinese political theory, amongst which is the Mandate of Heaven. Having lost his throne, and the Soviets having gained power, the Tsar has obviously lost the Mandate of Heaven, and so the government that now operates obviously has it. As such, why not give you recognition (and don't give any BS about how China didn't do recognition, given that they were in turmoil for most of the early 20th century).
It's not as if peasant leaders hadn't gained the throne of the Middle Kingdom before either. You're just a exceedingly odd duck as far as dynasties go, so far.
