SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
I'm trying to figure out what countries have recognised Brazil as well as who we have diplomatic relations with. I've made a little list, if anyone wants to be removed from or added to it please let me know.
Diplomatic Relations
USSR
Bolivarian Union
Netherlands
Columbia (Are they socialist BTW?)
Cisplatine Republic
Socialist Republic of the Congo
Recognized
???
I don't really know, since Brazil has paid little attention to foreign affairs, some might call it isolationism, others arrogance. There is also a Brazilian exile government that I described earlier.

I don't think the Sultanate has any missions in South America seeing how we don't care all that much about what happens overseas. A revolution in such distant lands wouldn't elicit more than an anemic shrug. We probably have no diplomatic contact and haven't recognized Brazil, but that's more because we fail to care than because we're actively opposed to you. Really the only nation in the Americas we have formal diplomatic contact with for sure is Cascadia, and that's only because they sell us warships. Otherwise I expect people have more interest in us than we in them, what with Suez and all that.

Mongolia recognizes pretty much any government actually in power, as Mongolia is very pragmatic and has something akin to the Mandate of Heaven system in Manchuria and China, insofar as Mongolia recognizes that those who have come to power probably deserve it in some fashion.Norseman wrote:I'm trying to figure out what countries have recognised Brazil as well as who we have diplomatic relations with. Although, Mongolia would only really have diplomatic relations with most Asian countries and a few European countries, due to the home-ties of European industrialists and Mongolians who went to Europe for university.

France recognizes Brazil, because the exile government is the exact opposite of French policies in nearly every matter.

I can't just start a war on my own Steve, not without prior co-ordination with you and Beowulf - unilateral actions are impossible because I should know what the opposing state is doing actually So no worry.
I might ask the offensive to be moved back in time though, if there'll be a delay until end of June in-game time, because the offensive's slated for end April-early May, as a preventive strike before reserves' deployment (mirroring the real-life 1929 decisions at the IRL Far Eastern Railway conflict, only with larger forces).

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

A quick question for both Norseman and Raj Ahten: Are these little naval maneuvers you guys have going on intended to happen during the Freedom Conference (i.e., in unreal time)? I ask because if that is the case, then I wanted my next story post to include a little viewpoint segment set on board that, um...rather expensive battlecruiser I've got moored off Beunos Aires for the duration of the conference (which probably wouldn't be there come May) that would reference elements of those naval operations.

Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
Yes it's specifically meant to occur during that period since Raj Ahten's maneouvers were specifically to prevent me from doing mischief during said conference. So by all means anyone at the Freedom Conference feel free to describe how panic / scandal spread and/or people run around like headless chickensMa Deuce wrote:A quick question for both Norseman and Raj Ahten: Are these little naval maneuvers you guys have going on intended to happen during the Freedom Conference (i.e., in unreal time)? Spain is a close ally and Uruguay has, as in the OTL, some German emigrants to it. It is a message of support for Spain and her colonies, paying back the support it gave to Germany over the Indian Ocean crisis.

*checks* Yes, you're right. Completely forgot about that.
EDIT: Also updated my orbat with the listing of major german naval bases and their defensive armaments. All armament is taken from decommissioned warhips or is older weaponry that was taken from dreadnoughts when they were rebuilt. If it is wished, I can deliver a detailled breakdown from where the guns came from.

Speaking of borders:
The Bolivarian Union's starting forces allow about 5 fortresses on the southern border with Chiletina/Paraguay.
The purpose of the fortresses is to support divisions that are arrayed to protect against an attack from Chiletina.
What would make more sense? A militarized border with fortresses along the border towns, or a space between the border and more northern fortifications?
For example, it could be possible to construct a fortress at the town of
Villazon
Supported by a division of Infantry-1918 and support battalions
http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&q=map+ ... CAkQ8gEwAA
Supported by an airbase about 35-40 km North of Villazon at Chaupiyaco, near the railway connection
Or does it make sense to leave the border demilitarized and move the fortifications up to nodal points and towns and cities about 1-200 km north of the border?
One concern is the need to protect the five or so airbases along the southern border. Or should there be airbases about 45-60 km from the border, or should they be moved up to 100-200 km from the border?
The overriding goal is to protect from an invasion by Chiletina. The deployment if town cities and infrastructure is the same as on the Google map, though the South American Highway is probably a railway rather than a road.
Note that there are mountain divisions near the Westernmost border with Chiletina.

Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
My defences with the Cisplatines consist mainly of having rigged strategic bridges and tunnels to blow, having mapped the area so I'll know where I have good defensive grounds, and then followed by a set of fortified cities further north. Basically I can't afford to man something like the maginot line, so why bother building one in the first place?
