Funny GameFAQs anecdote on the PC board of an aimbotting headshot hacker... who ends up getting turned on by his own team, who had agreed to a ceasefire with the other team in the lobby.

I'd still like to know how Soapand Price, both British nationals, and I don't even know if Price was ever seconded to TF141, can be charged with treason...against the US.

This ties into what I said about offending AMERICA FUCK YEAH idiots: it's like IW can't fathom (or wants to cater to retards who can't) that Britain might get a little bit upset over a US attempt to try British troops for treason, because Price and Soap are good guys, so naturally they should fall under American jurisdiction, because heaven forbid other countries might be on our side but not quite under our total control!

They're still British citizens, so if anything, they'd be tried for treason against Britain, before a British court, or some sort of joint military tribunal set up especially to handle such cases for the task force.Kamakazie Sith wrote: Maybe under a NATO agreement, or possibily because they were assigned to a joint task force.

So in the game does it state they are specifically wanted by the US and only the US?PeZook wrote:They're still British citizens, so if anything, they'd be tried for treason against Britain, before a British court, or some sort of joint military tribunal set up especially to handle such cases for the task force.Kamakazie Sith wrote: Maybe under a NATO agreement, or possibily because they were assigned to a joint task force.

What about that recent news story of the British man who hacked into American DoD files, and the British turned him over to American authorities. I think this is something similar.

IIRC It doesn't state that they're wanted solely by the U.S., but it does state that they're wanted for treason. I think that's what's got everyone rolling their eyes. Re: Modern Warfare 2
Re: Price being seconded to TF141 -- in retrospect, I can see Price being quickly welcomed back into the Regiment as something of a war hero, and obviously Soap putting in a good word for him, and a seconding of him to TF141 being rushed through. (Oh gawd I just saw Price x Soap in my head... NO!)
*Rationalizing*
Price's going rogue with the sub might have just caused Shepherd to move up his timetable, although he may not have expected so much of TF141 to join in and bring so many resources with them -- namely the operators' personal kit (including parachute gear) and transportation, plus Soap's personal collaboration in supervising at least two separate UCAVs armed with air-to-ground missiles. (My pet guess/rationalization is that those who participated had demonstrated that they weren't personally loyal to Shepherd enough to join Shadow Company, and hence were later tasked with the safehouse and boneyard operations.) The fact that Shepherd, even under the 'duress' of commanding TF141, would just let that go... seems less plausible, though the operators may have thought themselves so shit-hot that it doesn't occur to them that for some reason he's just letting it go, and not because he's their bitch... sad that Price didn't seem to clue them in that something was up, unless he'd lost his perspective too.

Re: Modern Warfare 2
Aww crap.
To summarize, the big WTF issues re: Price and TF141 are how the fuck did Price's little rogue op manage to get so much support (manpower, kit, transportation, and at least two AGM-armed UAVs), and how no one seemed to catch on -- with the possible exception of Price who didn't seem to tell his fellow operators -- that there might be something wrong when Shepherd seemingly accepts this insubordination.
I did think however that they ended up on Shepherd's shit list for not being Shadow Company material, hence them being sent to die at Makarov's safehouse and the aircraft boneyard.

Re: Modern Warfare 2
I don't think they were ever intended as Shadow Company material. The SC guys are all direct action CIA, which more than likely means they have been vetted for loyalty by someone working for Sheppard at the CIA. Sheppard wouldn't muss that up with some Limey do-gooders.

Beat it recently, and while I enjoyed the single player (especially the 'Holy shit! This is a war on US soil!' atmosphere), there were some huge plot holes. Like the super Russian nuclear powered cargo planes. Or what have you. Or the fact that American military leaders are dumb enough to not rely on observers in Europe spotting the huge armada of uber cargo planes or Russian navy cruising towards the US.

I always want to know why the USN just disappears in these vs. Russia scenarios. Even though a war between the USN and Russian Navy would be the largest naval conflict since the Pacific War.
It doesn't even make sense from a "rah rah Amerika" Patriot fanboy mindset. Don't these people love to wax poetic about battles like Midway?

Not to mention Washington DC is the only place in the entire United States which has actual air defenses. The Avenger and NASAMS batteries alone would slaughter an air assault, never mind the whole wing of F-15s on nearby air bases.Tasoth wrote:Beat it recently, and while I enjoyed the single player (especially the 'Holy shit! They can’t write a plot at all, and it’s no real surprise. The plot of Call of Duty 4 was just as stupid and horrendously flawed though it was at least a little less in your face about it. All the other games had no plot at all, just WW2 battles chained together. Hell at least the people who wrote Red Alert 2 thought to at least try to explain why the US wouldn’t just nuke Russia if it made such an overt attack.

Shouldn't it be clear to anyone that if you have a game with a level called "Wolverines!" and one of the goals is to set up a rallying point at Burger King that the entire game is subtly tongue-in-cheek, meant to bring to mind cheesy action films from the 80s and 90s?

Re: Modern Warfare 2
What flaws were in COD4's story? Apart from the joint US Marine/SAS task force at the end? The idea of terrorists stealing some Russian nuclear missiles isn't that implausible. Especially when you compare it to a Russian invasion of the United States. Also, Red Alert 2 gets a free pass because unlike Modern Warfare 2, RA2 is very tounge in cheek and doesn't pretend to be serious.Tasoth wrote:They can’t write a plot at all, and it’s no real surprise. I'm sure this has been touched on before, but the riot shield is hilariously broken in single-player. You can win the Delta operation "Terminal" just by shield bashing your way through the waves of SWAT cops.

Im not entirely sure but I dont think FMJ rounds even work against riot shields. In multi they can embed themselves pretty thoroughly in a choke point.
