German communist and German nationalist volunteers have left for Russia/Manchuria.
Germany itself will not get involved at the moment, though.

I'm curious. Why the hell would Byzantine Greeks, never conquered by the Turks, consider themselves "Slavs"? Slavs were a northern barbarian people who should consider themselves Hellenized after all.

Rus do not equal slavs, though. They are more like Vikings.
However, a large number of slavs were settled in Greece and the Opsikion thema by the Byzantines in the 600/700s.

That is true, but as Fin's Byzantium is a prosperous state and probably was the leading nation of Europe until the 1400s at least, I see no reason why more slavs should not have been settled in Byzantium. Eventually, it is his decision - if he wants to have a large number of slavs, let him have them.

Nice. Though you are aware that I said auxiliaries didn't count against combat fleet tonnage, aren't you? Things like tenders and oilers don't count toward your 1.2 million tonnes.

Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
I've got my Navy, Air Force and Naval Air Arm done. My Army and Marine active forces are looking done too, just need to determine how many infantry support tanks I want to add to my Marine reserve units. The composition of my Army reserve units isn't done yet, though, that's the biggest thing.Steve wrote:I know people are busy but I'd like to see more OrBats completed, or at least people acknowledge that they need to be done and PM/IM me with reasons they haven't been able to get them completed? Are we including a section on Fortifications or no? I've got a pretty good number of those.
Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
You'll note I didn't count any auxiliaries except those seaplane tenders (unless you count sub chasers, MTBs and minesweepers as being auxiliaries), though I figured I'd better include them in warship tonnage because seaplane tenders can and have used their aircraft offensively, though admittedly not to great effect (see: the Cuxhaven Raid). You'll also note my two under-construction BBs (which aren't supposed to be complete until late '26) are counted for their full tonnage, though since I added that I'm now lead to believe that ships that will be completed after 1925 are now counted as half-tonnage, yes?Steve wrote:Nice. Ships that won't commission before 1 January 1926 don't count toward tonnage at all.Ma Deuce wrote:You'll note I didn't count any auxiliaries except those seaplane tenders (unless you count sub chasers, MTBs and minesweepers as being auxiliaries), though I figured I'd better include them in warship tonnage because seaplane tenders can and have used their aircraft offensively, though admittedly not to great effect (see: the Cuxhaven Raid). Seaplane tenders will still count as auxiliaries. MTBs do not. Sub chasers... would, I believe.

Huh. I wasn't aware of that. Do minesweepers count as combatants? I might have to redo my orbat to get rid of the support ships entry if i don't have to worry about oilers and so forth.Steve wrote:Nice. Though you are aware that I said auxiliaries didn't count against combat fleet tonnage, aren't you? Things like tenders and oilers don't count toward your 1.2 million tonnes.
Whats the part about adding fortifications about? do you just want to know where they are or do forts cost something now?
Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
I'd like you to quantify them, and I figure they shouldn't add up in tonnage to more than a quarter, maybe a third of your combat fleet's tonnage.

What is a sensible deployment of fortifications for the coast of Peru? I think the emphasis would be on protecting major cities and preventing landings. There are 10 fortress brigades, and presumably fortresses, allocated for coastal defense in the starting forces.

Gotcha, I'll get my hands on some maps and try to locate my bunkers and whatnot, try to get gun calibers and numbers in there too.Steve wrote:Yes, MoP, please include fortifications.
Re: SDN World 3 Commentary Thread I
Okay then: Let's see what I can do with all that combat tonnage I just saved (I may now add some monitors to my fleet). So are we going with auxiliary tonnage = 1/4th combat tonnage? If so, then I'm pretty sure Norseman is well over that limit.Steve wrote:Ships that won't commission before 1 January 1926 don't count toward tonnage at all.

How would you like me to quantify my forts, since I don't really have a navy? Just go with maybe two or three already extant ones and what seems reasonable for a 19th century structure?Steve wrote:I'd like you to quantify them, and I figure they shouldn't add up in tonnage to more than a quarter, maybe a third of your combat fleet's tonnage.
(Obviously the new ones are going to be pretty well defined, possibly with actual plans made up.)
