Lipstick on a pig anyone? I'm not really sure why it's so farfetched that Beck might actually be a chauvinist pig.

Gasp! He is a man displaying the stereotypical chauvanist view of female gender roles! But wait it's in an obviously farcical situation and obviously not meant seriously.

Definitely time to call him to task on this HOLY FUCKING SHIT HE MADE A JOKE!

At what point does Seth McFarlan get called to task when Peter acts in a sexist manner. OH SHIT THAT'S A JOKE AS WELL!

I fail to see how this is any way news worthy.

His calls for overthrow of the government I can support objection but this is asinine.

Why the fuck does it have to be mutually exclusive? Racists make racist jokes all the time, but that doesn't make them not racist. Don't be an idiot.

What I'm interested in is how Palin responds, because dismissing it as "not sexist" would make her hilariously hypocritical over everything she's pointed the finger at for being sexist.

Yeah, it's a joke. This Blenn Geck guy sounds like he thinks that he and Palin in an administration would end up being like a stereotypical dysfunctional couple with a yapping wife and an asshole husband, or that's how his joke came out.

Yeah, it's an asshole joke, but unless he really does think that women should be best seen and not heard or that their place is in the kitchen, it's still just an asshole joke made by an asshole acting like an asshole in a TV show for assholes in a TV channel made by assholes for an asshole audience.

It's actually pretty simple:

If someone (say, a woman) tells a joke/makes a remark that would be offensive to her (say, a sexist joke), you can be reasonably sure that that person did not insult him/herself, but told a joke.

If another person who does not belong to that particlar group tells the very same joke (say, a man telling a sexist joke) than you can NOT be so sure.
You are far more likely that it was meant as an insult (or that it is a genuine opponion).

Sure, there are a lot of other factors that can point into one direction or the other - but this is a pretty big factor.

As a guy that is a very accomplished cook I find that both sexist and insulting. It falls in the same vein as 'barefoot and pregnant' does. The kitchen is the place of a woman as much as all mexicans are pickers of strawberries. It is both very insulting and sexist/racist/whatever.

KrauserKrauser are you really shit at reading?

When have I implied it was meant "seriously". I agree it is a joke. I am saying it is an objectionable joke.

And why am I suddenly supposed to be protecting Seth Macfarlane? A lot of what he does I think is dumb, and sometimes objectionable. But a lot of what he does is enjoyable for me because he lampoons people who dogmatically stick to a point of view.

Like you are right now.

And will you finally answer the point? What would happen if Beck had been making a racist joke and not a sexist one? All's fine to you?

I see you also lack the ability to identify hyperbole at all. But hey, don't let me stop you from being a raging cunt who likes dragging shit in from other boards for no reason.

Are you actually going to respond, acknowledge or debate my points or am I wasting my time as you are just going to pop in, post a ludicrous one liner and fuck off again grinning to yourself like a moron.

Goddamnit people, we're making liberals look like raging cunts here. All you have to do is listen to the last 8 seconds of the audio clip to hear, "...we HAVE to live up to the evil conservative stereotype..."

Clearly satire, and we're looking like douchebags for not getting it. Honestly, it doesn't feel good realizing you're behaving just like people you hate.

Yes because I'M the moron for not recognizing satire and continually harping on this non-issue as if it was finally revealing the true content of Beck's character.

It's especially great the full context of the statement was not included in the OP, damn those self proclaimed entertainers for trying to..................entertain?

Why the need to throw the race card out there Guid? Last I checked race had nothing to do with this conversation.

I'm ignoring you because you are being a trolling twat.

DA you should have included the full statement. Awful disengenious when I'm sure if Kieth Olbermann was being criticized based on anything but the full context of his statements you would have objections.

Honestly, this is getting pretty ridiculous. For all the things one could legitimately nail this guy on (and there are plenty; he's an idiot who is allowed to spout whatever inane commentary on anything he likes) and this is what you're focusing on?

Seriously?

This is a joke, perhaps even one in poor taste. If you want to bust his ass on sexism, do it on something else that matters, like abortion stances or something, not this.

That's because you are apparently so stupid as to not even understand the very basic line of questioning I am attempting to get you to answer.

And for your information, the "race card" is a term used to diminish claims of racism.

Let me see if I can take you slowly through this:

Glenn Beck made a sexist joke. One that has the oppressed group as the butt, and uses the traditionally disadvantaged position of the oppressed group as part of the joke.

I have said this is a bad thing, and I disapprove.

You have said that it is silly to disapprove of a joke.

So I asked you if it would be the same for you, and for everyone else, if instead of the oppressed group being women, the group was an ethnic group, and I took the advantage of black people in America.

You mean like in this thread?

I'm now kicking myself for not watching that clip earlier so I could see what was really said, as in what followed the quotation in the thread title ("...we have to live up to the evil conservative stereotype!": And here I thought only right wingers took quotes out of context). Now I'm all the more convinced that this thread and others like it belong in testing.
Funny that a message board can be used to actually post messages. The sad thing is a lot of the garbage that spews from Fox it is often very closely linked to very substantial and relevant news topics of the day.
If that's the case then nothing stops people from posting whatever Fox is saying about a given news story in the main thread about that news story. All the other random Fox quotes can go in testing.
I just don't see a moratorium serving anyone.
Except people who don't like me-tooing and spam, and much of what you can say about Fox has been said a million times already.
As far as the spam me-tooing goes, I do believe the rules are in place.
Well then I guess that suggested megathread will be a very lifeless one then, with very little commentary aside from the quotes. I suppose it will be *gasp* an archive of Fox quotes! Remind me again why you can't just go to Newshounds?
