Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
Your server must have a lot more saronite available. For me, the raw materials to MAKE 20 titanium bars still run close to 100g. Don't worry, right now people have created a market glut but it will work itself out over the next few days.
People still make titansteel
Edward- Engineers can't make money. Its that simple. Unless you're lucky enough to raid well and get the new Ashen Verdict ammo schematic early, the ONLY way you can make money is by farming mats and making mechanical pets, and even then its sketchy.
One thing that I've noticed about the new system is the disenchant/loot which is now built into all the loot rolls. I did a random northrend heroic and the 3 icecrown citadel heroics today, and I got 10 Greater Cosmic Essences, 4 dream shards, an abyss crystal, and some dust. I predict enchanting mats prices are going to drop BIG TIME, especially crystals. Casual instance running now provides all the mats I'd ever need.

Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
In the long term, enchanting mat prices are going to crater. In the near-term, though, people are getting a ludicrous amount of new gear, and with the exception of cheapskates like Edward over there, they all need enchants. That spells 'profit.'

The secret of making cash is finding a resource that is extraordinarily cheap on your server and seeing how much will people really pay. Frost Lotus is a perfect example. Our server tried 100G per...and it dropped to about 50-60G per because no one would fucking buy it, even though most of the top guilds give out Flasks for whatever raid, be it trash or glass chewing. Hell, even with the advent of new gear, Infinite Dust sells at 2G per...at most. I make more money converting it with the Frostweave I have into Bags.
Hell for the real money maker on my server? Fishing Dragonfin. Do an hour, I'd say make around 1K gold...easily because of how much people are willing to get that little extra out from food. Rhino is a good secondary.
Also, Primordial Saronite? Unless the drops are constant from bosses, I see it still being 2-3K at minimum and only at the end of the life of this patch as well as everyone getting geared out the nose. Currently it's dropped twice and is selling for 10K per. And a whole bunch of people on the server has 23+ badges. Crusader Orbs started at 5K, dropped to 3K when the patch for badges came out, and at the end of 3.2 I could sell for 800-1K. But that's for my server. Some will drop out like a brick if they only have 3 guilds that can effectively do ICC.
All in all, the new LFG has been fun. So far I got my Perky Pug, used badges to buy my epic gems for my gear, and so far no wipes on anything...even with a shitty priest that heals at 7K for a critical heal.

Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
I actually really liked the new raid and 5-man.
-We've managed to clear the 25 man raid to date and probably would have cleared it sooner if Saurfang wasn't a chatty bitch who gives the same damn dialogue every time you engage. It's nice to have a fight where Boomkins play a central role, since we are the best at Blood Beast ranching with Typhoon.
-The Gunship battle was incredible, though it's still buggy. One of our mages decided to not get a repair bill and invised when during one of our earlier wipes and thus the gunship was still on fire. The moment we restarted the encounter, the gunship immediately exploded and the raid wiped. This lead to a "Goddamn it, when we call for a wipe, just DIE and don't try to cheat!" from the raid leader speech.
-Lady Deathwhisper was kind of a boring fight, for me at least, since I was just nuking her shield down, but hey, I enjoy a good leisurely scroll through my spell rotation as much as anyone.
-Morrowgar was really cool looking, but most of his tricks were pretty recycled. When the main gimmick is "Yawn, move away from the spinning dude and don't stand in shit" is it, then he's going to drop.
The five mans are awesome.
-Forge of Souls is kind of generic, though I'm tickled they reused the Reliquary of Souls model ("OK, guys, where is its ass and how do we kick it?")
-Pit of Saron was really cool. The encounters are all well done and it has a feeling of progression as you are moving through it, rather than "Kill Every Motherfucker On a Linear Path to the Final Boss" sort of instance. The Gnome riding the Plague monster was hilarious ("Holy shit, he's like Blaster Master!"). The event where you run up the tunnel while the Frost Wyrm is trying to knock it down is cool and the last encounter just proves that Sylvanas is a real cunt (really, you teleported us to safety but you left all those slaves you had us rescue to die there, spooky?)
-Halls of Reflection was good shit lore wise and the Lich King chasing you down a mountain path (uh, slowly, running is beneath the Lich King). It was dramatic stuff. Even though I knew the moment I saw the cliff that we were going to be rescued by air, the Gunship showing up and bombarding the Lich King with cannons was still really awesome. WoW at least has that going. Like 2 out of 4 times we've engaged Arthas directly, he's been forced to retreat by sufficient application of artillery, though granted the effect on him at the Wrathgate event was that the Forsaken Super Plague only seemed to give him a nasty head cold.

Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
Your economy sounds vastly different from mine - fortunately for me. Our Crusader Orbs were only going for around 1k not long after they were available for badges. Price last week was around 400-600 per, depending on when and how many were up. I don't anticipate seeing the stuff available for anything remotely reasonable for another month or two - basically, when the remainder of ICC opens up and people are farming the whole thing on 10/25, regular and Heroic. The amount of badges you get by running most or all of the bosses 4 times every week is sufficient to get people their T10+ pieces rapidly, and after that they'll start selling the Saronite. It would be insane to try to buy the stuff before then - supply will necessarily just be way too low. I'll use the intervening time to make some more cash in preparation, and not sweat Shadowmourne too much when it's still not even possible to make significant progress in the chain.Ghost Rider wrote:The secret of making cash is finding a resource that is extraordinarily cheap on your server and seeing how much will people really pay. I checked out Titanium on my server, and the bars are sellign decently. Saronite seems to have jumped up in price, however - I make a profit still by transmuting, but it's far better for me to just hit up Sholazar and mine the stuff myself - and get some Titanium besides. I can get a good 10 stacks of ore within an hour or less if I do it at the right times, which coincidentally happen to be the poorest times for finding groups and doing other more fun things.
Between Mining, Blacksmithing, Jewelcrafting, and Alchemy, I can still make a respectable amount of money for a reasonable amount of effort. I tend to stock up for a while and then go through my bags and sell large quantities over a week or so.
I should level my fishing and cooking so I can sell Dragonfin, though. The fish uncooked sells for around 75g/stack - it's never even available cooked because the demand is so high. That's the biggest lesson I;ve learning in teh WoW economy - an item may have a high value in terms of rarity and cost to manufacture, but you need enough customers who are willing and able to pay that value to be able to actually sell it. 1k+ items are usually priced fairly for how good they are, but few people seem to actually want to spend the money anyway.
As for progression - last night's 10-mans were much better than Tuesday, since the servers were actually stable. We 2-3 shotted everything but Saurfang, and the only reason we didn;t get him was group comp. We have:
Blood DK
Unholy DK (me)
Rogue
2x Prot Pallies
Resto Shaman
Resto Druid
Holy Pally
Hunter
Shadow Priest
Clearly, we lack significant ranged burst damage for the Blood Beasts. We were needing the DKs to virtually ignore the boss and run around kiting the Beasts with taunt and Chains of Ice so that our diminutive ranged could take them down. We could get Saurfang to enrage at 30%, but by that point we had around 3 or 4 people Marked and everything fell apart.
After reading White Haven's note about Boomkins, I'm going to have our Shadow Priest switch to his Disc spec and the Druid go Thunderchicken. Saurfang should trouble us no more.
25-man starts on Wednesday, unless we find enough people online over the weekend to hit it before the reset.

You know, normally I can sorta follow these nerd out fests... not even a little bit this time.
Question, do they still just make the stand alone games or is it all in the MMO now?

I am truly staggered at how much money you can make with a bit of knowhow. I'm an alchemist, transmute spec, and in 3.3 they did a very interesting thing: They took off the cooldown from transmuting saronite to titanium. I can now take any amount of saronite, and sell it for titanium at a 50% markup.
As of today I had 18,000 gold.
Thanks for telling me this! And to think I was about to reroll JC/Enchanting on my Alchemy Druid. Don't think anyone on my server has found out about this yet ... time to exploit!
On 3.3; the new LFG system is fantastic, I've never been able to gear up my dual spec Druid faster! The only thing I'd like would be the option to 'remove' certain HC's from the random list (Occulus, I am looking at you!).
Apart from that, pretty fun, except pretty much every mob has re-rolled Rogue with the patch it seems; when trying to tank multiples no matter HOW hard you try to position them, they always try and swing around and stab you in the ass, it's frustrating.

I am curious as too see how deathwing can be stopped. I wonder if the old gods granted him the powers of yogg saron and c'thun. In any case, Yogg saron was only defeated when the heros were aided by titans. ps. He was actually pretty cool until the Old Gods drove him mad. Shame I can't get cataclysm, cause me ma terminated my account

Maybe, if they give enough of a fuck about it. Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
Also...Saronite selling soon?
Ok, let's say it drops on Crusader Orb level. Meaning that item that needs 5-7 of them? Not anytime soon, unless the major guilds are plowing through heroics and they drop every boss there. So far, we got one drop...from Deathbringer Dork. And we have to wait nearly a month for the next wing to open. So we might see 4, possibly 5 more? Not even enough to craft one of the epics, and barely enough to start buying. And the amount of points we are offering for one donation is enough to guarantee the person to get any and everything they'd want. I bought one and donated to insure I would get the super trinket whenever it dropped.
Also 43 badges per week until the NEXT gate and an entire single set cost 405 badges. 9 weeks. Not exactly rapid unless measuring in years. 810 for most characters with Paladins and Druids possibly investing more because of guilds. And remember you cannot upgrade ANY of your T10 gear unless you have a lower piece. And while some gear is piss poor at the T10, the heroic upgrade is concieveable better then any loot so far in the game, thus forcing you to buy the lower.
Really...they made sure this will last a while.

As I said, I don't anticipate it selling soon. I'm looking more than a month, likely 2-3, into the future. At that point some people will be using badges to buy Saronite. It doesn't take many. And all I need is 25 Saronite. I should hopefully have the assistance of my guild as well (at least as far as the drops go). It's going to take a godawful long time, but I can be patient.Ghost Rider wrote:Also...Saronite selling soon?

There are already, the very same week of the patch, many people who already have enough badges to purchase 1 Prim. Saronite. Obviously people will be able to earn badges significantly faster once all wings of ICC are open and Heroic modes can be attempted on 10/25 difficulties. I agree that we won't see anything more than a few vastly overpriced Saronite on teh AH any time soon...but in a month or three, it will start popping up. And hopefully I'll have enough T10 gear at that point to afford to blow a few emblems of my own.
It also does help that I have a geared healer alt who can run ICC and the dailies exclusively to get emblems for Saronite rather than gear (well, I could win drops, but I wouldn't bother with set pieces, and not many people compete with rolls on the spellpower plate).

Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
I'm thinking Azshara will be a raid boss before Deathwing is. It seems like we are probably going to get to go into the Maelstrom in Cata.Ghost Rider wrote:Deathwing will be stopped by 25 dudes wearing 397 ilevel gear who didn't stand in the fire.
Next up Lady Az, then onward to kicking Kli'Ja and Sargeras for precious purple.

cooincidentally, the lore has tied up the fates of onyxia and some of the horsemen. Onyxia is killed by Varian (he drives two swords into her skull), and one of the horsemen is killed by an orc chick (well she does get an axe to the head, which has got to be painful even for a death knight.) Lorewise they'll have Tirion kill the lich king, or state that the people who fought Yogg Saron were only successful because of the titanic watchers helping them. C'thun was in a weakened state, and Nefarian was kind of a prat who got unlucky (or he faced talented adventurers).

Which means zilch as in raid setting. Lore has explained permanent deaths...like Ony.Darth Yan wrote:cooincidentally, the lore has tied up the fates of onyxia and some of the horsemen. It was a random bunch of purple encrusted yaboos that defeated everyone in TBC, except Illidian....which on it's own is quit sad since that implies that those self same heroes couldn't defeat him BUT could kick Kil'Ja ass enough to have the Sunwell reject him, along with defeating M'Uru and a whole host of things that make Illidian look like small change.

Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
Given that was a part of the instance itself and nothing more then a measure of Hard Mode versus Casual, completely unknown. Other then some asinine Dragonflight remake, I see no reason why. You'll likely face him the same way you face most bosses, and if he's the last boss of the expansion, you'll face him with a debuff that's on constantly.Darth Yan wrote:what i meant was that would the deathwing battle involve the players getting buffed like in the Yogg Saron Battle?

Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
There's some issue that Blizzard wants her as another expansion boss, and that what we see of the Maelstrom in Cataclysm is merely the outer marches rather then facing her. To be honest, I'd prefer if she was a bit more major given that Malygos was so utterly insipid and useless in this expansion. Though from the looks of things we still have :Gil Hamilton wrote:I'm thinking Azshara will be a raid boss before Deathwing is. Maybe they will slot her as loot bowl #791342.

Re: Fall of the Lich King - Patch 3.3
Though for those wondering? So far the longest ways to make cash is having at least 2-3 alts with these professions:
-Jewelcrafting: Other then making your own, it's the level 70-77 BoEs. Also craft gem, sure some are huge in the 400-500 category but with enough haggling you can make that money in a day at most. Craft the low level material from 1 green+2 Earth =ring
-Alchemy: Exilir specialization, possibly potions if you have enough raiding guilds. Transmutation is useless except for spurts. Flasks are devoured on a weekly rate without fail. New raids make them sell higher. Either be friends with an herbalist or have one yourself. I make around 3-4K on Flasks alone if I have enough. My only stop gap is the amount of Frost Lotus people I can buy from, even with having one do the work for me. Guilds and people will pay through the nose for most of them. Pure Mojo though is low seller given mana regen in WoW.
-Enchanting: The real money is not enchanting yourself, but in the disenchanting. That 3.14G ring? 2 Dust minimum. See how dust sells, usually I can put up 2000 dust a day, sell it at 4-5K depending on market. That doesn't include all the other enchant items.
-Tailoring: 3-day special cloth will always sell unless it is at the end of the expansion. Bags? Biggest money maker for nearly the least effort. I can buy or farm the mats at around 20 Gold, sell the bag for 60, 300% profit is nothing to scoff at. I can usually push around 50 bags on a good day, 35-40 on an average day.
Blacksmithing has some really good reciepes, but fluctuate on market items. It is a perfectly reasonable alternative to JCing, and compliments the disenchant route. Engineering? For fun, even with new bullets and arrows people will only go nuts in the first month. Leatherworking? Only for Drums, and even then. Skinning/Herbing/Mining...decent but I can make more money doing less, and usually I make friends with each. Thus I buy from bulk at far lower then even AH prices. But really do the math in accordance to your server. Every one is different with some still wild fluctations in junk such as pet prices, stupid weapon wants(I sold the hilt from the new heroics for 25K), and what not.
Download Autioneer. Anyone who is serious about making 100K+ Gold has this because no one wants to actually put 5000 items by hand, let alone figuring out the market value of a whole host of disparate items. The whole motto is to work smarter, not harder.
