I doubt Caesar would allow the Senate to get out of hand. The last time he did that, they stabbed him in the back after all.

Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
What was the chapter where we saw the scene aboard that one Israeli sub? Was it really the same one? And as far as I remember the idea was that it was going to nuke Jerusalem. That wouldn't make some people too happy, since the Scarlet Beast was already mostly accomplishing that task.

Where's the scene with the Israeli captain deciding to go rogue?
Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
it was in the chapter were al-sohl sacrificed himself to delay the beast. Speaking of which, he deserves a bit more then just the virgins.

They won't be virgins for long!
Anyway, I had another one of my crazy thoughts which is probably not true at all. So, heaven and hell had their apparati for extracting energy from the dead, and it would seem that the plan of "use it to boost their dead to the next level" was bullshit and possibly even the idea of "the big guys use it for themselves" is bullocks. So what was it going for? Just being dumped and wasted out of eeeevil? Or was it actually going to power some thingy (for lack of any idea what it could possibly be) for keeping out the devils and other scarily dangerous extra-universals? That'd be a twist, that human meddling brings down three worlds' worth of hurt because only a few beings even remembered this thing that was set up way back when. Maybe just having the Heaven node running or the Hell node partially running was enough so they stopped caring after a while, but the moment Heaven gets taken down and just enough people rescued from torture in Hell...

I always figured the very existence of that energy was bogus. Still... what an interesting idea, and there are those apparently very scary devils to consider.

i've asked if all the other high ranking chayot (azrael, chamuel, and Zadkael) were working with the others. It would be ironic if the "most loyal" servents, were the ones planning to overthrow him.

The crack is back!
Hey Stuart, not to pressure you, but can you at least make a scene in a military base in Puerto Rico? I imagine that, with this war going on, the U.S. military gets to conscript Puerto Ricans and reactivate several military bases here (Roosevelt Roads most of all). I imagine some people in P.R. will grumble about it, but given the circumstances of this war, it won't be serious.

Anyone know where I can find the short stories set between Armageddon and Panthiocide?
Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
Some thoughts:
- If the rogue captain nukes anything, then he'll have a rather... interesting time in Hell.
- It would be hilarious if Karla dies of radiation poisoning, or cancers caused by radiation. It'd be a really mundane and embarrassing, yet somehow fitting and ironic, way for him to go.
- Dumah's going to be nuked; no doubts about that. When she dies, she should realize that the only reason she's not being tortured by the humans she slew is because the humans can't get to where she's going (yet )
- Paul is "lucky" for the same reason. (Trying not to overuse the ;twisted: smilies here)
- Once Heaven is cracked open, Earth won't need to send in anyone living. Two portals very close together will send undead from Hell to Earth and then to Heaven; the undead won't remain in Earth long enough to notice anything going wrong. At the very least, the humans the angels killed will want their blood, and not even Yah-yah can stop a tide of enraged undead.
- Yahweh vs. his ego in undead humans. Only, the humans are armed with knives, baseball bats, and the severed limbs of angels, and they have been maddened with rage and grief. Who wins?

A quick search for "Armageddon" in the topic titles here in the fanfic subforum should suffice.Blayne wrote:Anyone know where I can find the short stories set between Armageddon and Panthiocide?
Armageddon: Don't Wake Me While I'm Quiet, the story that mostly tells about the new "governments" being created by the undead (specifically the Russians). It's a nice lil' story and I really enjoyed reading it, but (and I say this here because I don't want to revive that old thread) at some point it devolves from "story" to "rough sketch of ideas". It's enjoyable alright, but if you're expecting "Salvation War 1.5: Salvation Harder" don't be surprised to find this ain't a new full blown online novel.
Damn fine cup of coffee.
Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
From an objective view, this line conveys the necessary information, but having it removed from the city itself kind of deadens the impact. It would be like if in Henry V, rather then giving the St Crispin's day, we had someone come onto the stage and say "Then Henry gave a stirring speech that fired up his demoralized men, and they went on to win a glorious victory!" Delivering so much exposition through council meetings makes it feel clinical and remote."Word is still coming in Sir. So far we know we lost more than a dozen aircraft including one of the YAL-1s. Some were shaken apart by trumpet blasts but most were own goals. It was a wild furball over the city Mister President, a completely uncontrolled dogfight. On the ground, Uriel was breaking through the screening when the B-1s flushed him. A few moments more and we would have had hundreds of thousands of deaths on our hands. It was that close. As it was, we think between ten and twenty thousand people died city-wide from the Uriel attack and many more from the lost aircraft crashing. More still from expended munitions and fragments hitting the ground. Sir, we may have won this one, but it's been the bloodiest fight on American soil since Gettysburg."
Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
Truth in Television, the thing is though that you'ld have just finished reading the epic battle and already know the full experience it only seems clinical because you didn't go back to reread the chapter before.

Turns out that a five way cross over between It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the Ali G Show, Fargo, Idiocracy and Veep is a lot less funny when you're actually living in it.

Awesome chapter! I really missed the Pantheoicide updates.

What about that delegation of angels that got blown up on the way to meet with Satan back in Armageddon? Or were they killed by undead (and would that make a difference)?Shroom Man 777 wrote:Fuck yeah. Until now, she's the only human to have ruined an angel's shit!

Just discovered this website dedicated to rubbishing TSW. Evidently written by a brave keyboard warrior who can't bring himself to put his criticisms to the author in person.

I think 'rather sad' sums it up well; one can't help feeling sorry for somebody like that. He definitely needs the love of a good woman or (preferably) several bad ones.JN1 wrote: Bit of a sad git by the looks of him.

Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
He's trying to MST3k it without understanding the basic premise of the story, seeing what he wants to see, and being completely ignorant of the author's background. To him, the real-world effects of weapons are "wank", humanity daring to be better than their enemies is "wank"... I dunno, maybe he should read something like Left Behind, might be more to his liking.
However, he has brought up a couple of points here or there that may need to be addressed. The one that comes to mind is... how does the Predator transmit out of the Hellmouth, if light can't go through?

So do I, do you know any, Stu?Stuart wrote:I think 'rather sad' sums it up well; one can't help feeling sorry for somebody like that. He definitely needs the love of a good woman or (preferably) several bad ones.JN1 wrote: Bit of a sad git by the looks of him.
I have taken the risk of posting a comment on his site calling him out on his views. I've suggested that if he has 'issues' about TSW why hasn't he joined this site so he can put them to us. I doubt he's brave enough to actually enter a debate.
The fact that he doubts the effects of ordnance seen in these two stories is laughable. Who is more likely to be right? Stu, a renowned expert on military affairs, or some sad prat with too much time on their hands?
Then instead of being a w*nker sniping from somewhere that Stu cant defend himself didn't he come here and make that point? I imagine he would have gotten a sensible answer, though that would have stopped him going 'HUR HUR Salvation War bad, HUR HUR' from his site. However, he has brought up a couple of points here or there that may need to be addressed. Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
Well, I can totally understand how somebody wouldn't like the Salvation War outside of religious sensibilities. Lets face it, this is not a conventional story with conventional writing, and most people want drama, not accuracy/science/logic. SD.net is just wierd that way.
Anyway, the problem I have with this guy is that he's MST3king the story badly. He's using the things we're reading the story for (attention, often at length, to scientific, strategic and technical detail) as detriments. It's like hating Star Wars because you think that space ships are stupid.

Awesome! I enjoyed the latest installment. I enjoyed the part where Michael-Lan realised his own mortality. Being saved from being blown up by a nuclear bomb by a hunch and quick reflexes? Damn, that's a close one!

Re: The Salvation War: Pantheocide. Part Forty Two Up
Same reason why a beam from a flashlight can be seen through a translucent screen that appears dark when the light intensity on both sides of it is roughly equal. Under those circumstances, the screen seems completely opaque. Now, shine a flashlight beam on the screen and the differential suddenly becomes very one-sided and the beam shines straight through. The traditional version of this is people who use white pull-down screens for their windows. They completely block any vision of what goes on inside the room. However, at a party, somebody turned up with some blue films (this was in the days when 8mm film was something really special) and a projector. They used the window screen as a projection screen. Every detail of the film could be seen from the street outside as several witnesses at the subsequent trial testified.open_sketchbook wrote: However, he has brought up a couple of points here or there that may need to be addressed. In the Predator case, the transmission is on a high-intensity pencil beam that goes by line-of-sight to the outside. As stated, there is an energy barrier at the portal although it's normally too low to cause problems. The humans were a little lucky in that the portal was a very big one and the Predator didn't go far enough in to cause line-of-sight problems
