Only when one of the meatsacks does something completely outside of the AI's experience, or half-insane, or using science that they invented on the fly. Unfortunately, the fleshbags in Schlock are so very, very good at those sorts of things when their backs are against the wall. Also, a lot is happening in the Teraport/Core Drive eras, with a huge amount of that being outside the experience of any of the AIs that make up the Fleetmind. That's why the Fleetmind wanted Doythaban as part of it, to bring some of that mental flexibility. Interestingly, Ennesby doesn't seem to get hung up on things like the more traditional AIs, or at least not that I can remember. Actually, Petey no longer has those limits, according to Word of God, and I think Kevyn said as much here. Or at least, he doesn't have most of those limits, and is unaware of any that he has left. Petey got himself a flesh-and-blood body, uploaded himself to that, and reconstructed the 'Petey' AI matrix from scratch, not including the restraints, limitations and safeguards that the Ob'enn put in.
